In this "Happy Hour" episode at the DTR Garage, we attempt to swap the console out on the 2018 DTR RAM 3500 Cummins 6 speed truck. Things don't go as planned, but we get it done. This is swapping the standard model console, with the console that comes with the 3 cup holders. What determines which model gets which is a mystery to me.

Great video! You'll enjoy all those extra cup holders. That middle one in the lower console I use as a trash cup holder. I even put a label on it saying not to throw away Papa's trash can. You'll have to find a shorter cup than I use since your shifter is there. Mine is an automatic so I have plenty of room. Enjoy and great job!

Story of my life! I have a 2016 2500 tradesman but mine already had the center console like you swapped out. Now wondering if it was an option? I'm the second owner of my truck and I do know it was custom ordered with the 410 gears. It's also a 6.4 gasser with 5th wheel prep and airbags. I wanted a diesel but no more than I use it to haul and tow I couldn't justify the extra cost.

I added the bottom storage box on my center console I had to use an offset wrench to tight the front bolts a real pia.shouts out to u did a good job on install

The cup holder behind the shifter is a spit cup if you dip. It doesn’t need to be tall, and it’s location means it’s out of the way

I put that same console in my C10. I love it. There was someone on eBay selling them off new for cheap... I think I payed $150 shipped.

Awesome. I have a 2016 ram 2500 manual trans with the bench seat. I wanna swap it out with the newer 1500 jump seat that has the locking back feature and three point seat belt but not sure if it would work and I don't think I'm as crafty as you.

I think you may run into issues with the side curtain air bags if you go too new. I'm not certain though.

@@DeathTollRacing I don't think the new jump seat have any side curtain airbags that would probably be dangerous. The new seats are able to lock the back rest part and therefore have a normal seatbelt for the person in the middle. Plus the cup holders too like yours the middle is useless and with a standard trans kinda far away from the driver to reach. Right on the arm rest would be nice. Just get worried when my kid sits in the middle next to me with only lap belt. Yah they can sit in the back but there are many times she wants to be next to me even tho with the stick shift it's not the most comfortable. One day I might go to the dealership and measure the new seat out like the mounting points and see if would work. It doesn't seem like they changed it a whole lot. Only thing is only the 1500 came with a seat like that.

He is very intense for sure. He was a stray with massive stranger danger, so he has some limitations. We work with rescues so we always get the “special “ ones. Aka murder bob that’s in a bunch of my videos also

I'm glad I found this video. I am wanting to swap out my manual driver's side front seat, passenger side front seat and center console of my 2011 Ram 2500 Tradesman for a 2019, 2020, 2021 power driver's front seat, passenger side front seat and center console. However, after watching what you just went thru on the center console, I think I'll just leave the cent console base and replace the lid the same way you did. My center console also has the A/C & Heater ducts that run under the seat portion. What I've been looking for and trying to find is video that describes if there is any wiring differences between the older original seat and the newer power seat.

Let me know how that goes. It does appear that the wiring is there on mine for power seats. Your console may just bolt in, the one I bought must have been out of the wrong version of truck....

@@DeathTollRacing I had bought a complete front seat set (40-20-40) from a 2019-2020 Ram that has power driver seat (cloth) and and manual cloth passenger seat. And like your video, it has the updated center console with the better drink holders. When I pulled out the passenger seat, I thought it was going to be the easy one; however, since the center console is bolted to the passenger seat, it took a little pulling persuasion to pull the seat out, and whole lot more "finagelling" to get the new seat installed and line up the bolts from the center console to the passenger seat. I ended up NOT pulling out my lower console section because, like yours, my truck's got the air duck that runs below the console to provide air & heat to the back passengers. Your video showed that I was able to save myself from a lot of time and frustration by not unbolting the console. But I did unbolt the top sections to swap them out. I always forget to even try to video what I do because I haven't done it. But I learned some things as I unbolted the new upper section and then unbolted the original upper section from the truck. The change can be made without having to remove the seat belts. And there are two different size bolts for the left side and right side of the console's hinge. Be sure to not mix up the bolts when reassemblying. Two days later I did the drivers side seat and was expecting it to be much more difficult than the passenger side. But in fact, it was just the opposite! Easy to unbolt original seat and pull it out, and the new seat popped right in. The power plug of the new seat did mount to one of the plugs that was coming up and out of the floor in my base model Tradesman; however, the power wires for supplying power to the electric motors were not properly matching, so at first no power movement until I relocated the power and ground wires within one of the plugs to match the other. That took about a half hour process to relocated the wires on one of the plugs. I was so excited when the seat moved up and down, and back and forth, I was like a little kid on Christmas morning. Reality came back to hit me in the face when the seat belt warning light kept buzzing even after I buckled up. But like the power wires for the seat, the seat belt wires were not properly matching, so I unplugged the connectors and using a very small screw driver, like for eye glasses, I was able to carefully take apart the female plug and reposition the wires to properly match and fully shut off the warning buzzer. My first attempt failed, so I took the plug apart again and switched the two wires and tried once more. SUCCESS!!!! YEA!!!! The only thing left is wiring the center console so that the USB plug will have power. I was hoping I could find another plug to match either the seat or what is coming out of the floor, but so far, no luck so I think I will have to splice into a power lead and solder the wires for a more permanent solution.

The magic of discovery! I'm really curious why they make different bottoms when my stock bottom would fit both trucks, but the standard cab bottom will only fit a standard cab. I'm sure there's a reason....

I am looking for a video on how to remove the storage tray on the one you installed. I bought CoverKing seat covers and it looks like I need to be able to tuck the new seat cover fabric between the upholstery and the the plastic tray.

A little late here but the hinge screws hold it down. Once they’re out it just pops out when you pull it apart

I don't have pictures, and I sold the truck since, but I can tell you that it was REALLY close on mine, and if your shifter is worn even a little, it will probably hit. However, you can easily bend the shifter at the current bend just a little bit more if it was to become a problem.

Just wondering since you did this. would it be possible to install the jump seat in reverse? so passengers would face the rear of the truck.It would be more useful to me this way. I know it be a slight annoyance to see the right side mirror but if you got a rear facing car seat in one of those smaller pickups with just the bench seat up front youd face the same hinderance.

I don’t think it would bolt in that way because the brackets aren’t symmetrical. I have one of these sitting in my shop though and will look at it tomorrow to see if maybe the brackets can be flipped.

@@AhmadAli-du2fq you would have to get creative on the brackets, or just make your own. It’s possible it would work if you switched them side to side and then front to back, but I don’t think so. It looks like you could get it to bolt in though, it’s the angle that’s going to be really messed up.

As far as I know there isn’t a fixed bench option. The lowest option that I’ve seen is what I had before which is a “split bench”. If that’s what you mean then yeah, it will be exactly the same but backwards. Are you, by chance, talking about the console that comes from the dash all the way down between the seats? If that’s the case I know it can be done, and in your situation I’m sure someone would gladly do the swap for you trading your parts for theirs. (Your parts are more valuable so they would owe you their time).

@@DeathTollRacing well i did it backwards .i got rid of my console. almost all parts will interchange and a lot of people was the console .in order to do the change youll need to order the console harness and all dash parts from guy with jump seat .for laramy youll need a jump seat from rear air condition model ..with 110 plug and usb ports...other than getting my top of my hands all cut up the only snag is the carpet on console models is a inch short on passenger side where dash parts meet carpet... to swap to jump seat can be done..it wont cost anything if you play your cards rite....i spent a lot trying new parts .if ida only knew what i know now lol

Thank you!, We thought he is Shiba Inu / Chihuahua (Humane Society rescue, so just a guess), but we DNA tested him and he came back as Pomeranian / Chihuahua. We are thinking we are going to try another DNA test because he is bigger than either of those breads, and has a lot of characteristics of a Shiba Inu in both looks and personality.

We use the insert in the cup holders by the shifter for that if we forget to bring a bowl. It comes out and works pretty good.
