It suck I have spent 6750 dollars in Australia for the Marantz SR 8012 flagship AVR and its not going to get the update I am sick of it.

I know it sucks - but you still have the product you purchased on the day you got it. The beautiful thing about tech is that it's always advancing and always getting cheaper. I was amazed I could buy something with Audyssey XT32 and 7.1.4 processing in 2016 for only £649. Crazy value (SR6011). Prior to that it was only in >£1.5k AVRs

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the Marantz Sr8012 has only 11 channels of processing, which is a hardware limitation of the unit. The Pro gives the ability to take DTS:X beyond its original 11 channel limitation, however, since the processor in your unit can't handle more than the 11 channels there would be no reason to have Pro on your unit.

I wish that D & M would issue out a firmware to update older AVR's so that DTS Neural X can be applied to Dolby encoded shows. I currently have a Denon X7200WA and don't have the ability to use Neural X on Atmos encoded material.

Been debating getting a NOS AVR-X6200W and have been trying to work out what the difference is with DTX:X PRO and if I should save up more and get a newer model. Thanks for the informative discussion. I've had trouble working out the difference between X and PRO but you explained it very well. For my room more than 11 speakers isn't really viable. So have just ordered the X6200W for well below 1/2 original price :) Now to save up for more Dynaudio speakers :(

Has DTS Headphone:X support been removed on Denon's X8500H AVR?

Headphone:X is a "pre-mix" from the source. For example many blu-ray's include Headphone:X track, select that on the audio options for the disk. Then listen via the headphone jack.

so, if you have an AVR-X6700 can you have a 5.2.6 for DTX-Pro? (5 bed level, 3 front height, 2 surround height and voice of god) OR do you have to have the rear bed level channels? (7.2.6: 7 bed level, 3 front height, 2 surround height and voice of god)

Neural x vs neural x pro ? Who will be the better and why ?

Neural X upmixer available in a DTS:X Pro receiver had upmix to more the 11 speakers but the Neural X upmixer found in a DTS:X is limited to just 11.

@@fabiozagoo interesting question. I believe that due to the fact that Neutral X PRO is only available on high end models , it should work better as it has much better processor available. In comparison Neural X can be found on 500-600$ AVRs so I suspect that it's designed to work with lower computing power compared to PRO version. I might be wrong, it's just a suspicion.

hi can someone tell me at what height the surround and back surround speakers are placed for a configuration 7.2.4 for a sitting listening position I don't know if everyone goes above or below the ear Thank you

I don't think it matters. Mine are installed at about 8ft but I've seen some installed much higher

Try for 45 degrees or higher at the listening position. One mistake I see a lot is people mount tops directly in the ceiling above the front towers, with 8 ft ceiling that results as low as 30 degrees at the listening, that is too low and you start to lose the height/immersive content. If you are constrained to wall mounts it may help to have narrow dispersion speakers.

Any reason why DTS' Virtual X height virtualizer restricts Dolby audio signals whereas Dolby's variant the Atmos Height Virtualizer can be used with DTS & PCM audio signals? Dolby withdrew their Cross-Upmixing restrictions so it's strange that DTS has imposed this restriction with their Virtual X virtualizer technology & has opted not to allow the use with Dolby audio signals.

DTS does not limit the use of the Virtual:X technology, it accepts PCM as an input.

@@GlenStone Yes, I realise that but then why can't DTS Virtual X be used with Dolby material, it seems like DTS has prohibited Virtual X, I believe Dolby have allowed their Atmos Height Virtualizer to be used with DTS signals. Is this something DTS could update to allow Virtual X to function with Dolby signals?

What about DTS-X Extreme or DTS-Z or DTS-Z plus? Here's the problem, all these new formats are at best perhaps .01٪ better. The only sure thing is in 6-12 months a new format will be out touting how great it is and most importantly the WHY you should buy it.

Excited to get the content for DTS:X Pro. I'm not a fan of the nearfield mixes we are getting. The theater mixes are going to be the biggest upgrade in movie audio, more than Atmos or DTS:X alone IMHO

Post 653 shows that existing DTS:X disks are not object based, but channel based, and that DTS:X Pro is matrixing the additional channels from channels. Not from objects. Every DTS:X mix has a multi-ch "bed later" mix which is why the content is backwards compatible. As Glen mentioned in one of the sessions just because there are tons objects available doesn't mean the mixer will utilize any or all of them. Most mixing engineers are far more comfortable with channel based mixing. It is a creative choice. Directors may also not want older movies remixed with objects. Over time sound engineers will begin utilizing objects more and more. The nice thing you will be ready. In the meantime the upmixer will allow you to better utilize all 13+ speakers in your system.

Hmm... PS5, Xbox Series X and PC... TV's with only one HDMI 2.1 in and no DTS earc passthru... WTF is happening with this complicated and limited arrangement of sacrificing components? AVR's are supposed to be complete audio video switchers.

PS5, Xbox, STBs don't use eARC, they pass audio on the normal HDMI connection. eARC is a Backchannel from the TV to the AVR when the content is sourced by the TV

Personally I think u people are losing your mind. Why not 30 front center channel speakers? Once u go down this rabbit hole you will never be happy. 5.1 is more then enough
