I watched all your Audyssey learning videos, and I really tried to do my best with carefull setup and tweaking. Results for movies and audio are just amazing. And I use Marantz Cinema 50 with 5.1.4 setup using B&W speakers. So it is ok setup with really capable speakers. Still Audyssey did make all corrections just great. My advice for all that do not get good resutls is few simple tweaks - Reference EQ for movies, Flat for audio. Speakers cut off at 80hz, and that midrange dip to off. Do not use to wide area, and do not messure area like you have a cinema space at home. Messure you exact position. Awesome product, Sound United did great job also with new Marantz series. Only thing that I would say i based on flow logic from past is midrange dip. I would just remove that part form software.

Been really impressed with Audyssey XT32 for music. I can confirm though that the high frequency rolloff and mid-range compensation don't work for me in my space. 1) Klipsch RP tweeters are directive and 2) even after removing roll off, I have to raise the curve above 4 KHz a bit because with treatment, the highs are too muffled, if I limit treatment to 4Khz, they're too bright.

Audyssey is great - however, adjusting the target curves is ... difficult. There should be something like parametric EQ, where you can input frequency, Q and level as numbers. That would be great. Please also add a library of different target curves as well, as none of the default curves will sound good. A downward slope on the target curve is usually preferred by most listeners.

The question as to what frequency cutoff point is correct for EQ'ing; the answer is within the minimum phase region... which occurs from the transition region downward. EQ'ing above the minimum phase region is an exercise in chasing your tail. Any EQ change made is only applicable and valid in one single point in space. Either way, EQ'ing above the room's transition is tricky business. Hell, small room acoustics is tricky business.
@ronalcasid38443 жыл бұрын
How does the average lay person determine cutoff frequency?
@FOH36633 жыл бұрын
@@ronalcasid3844 Depends on room dimensions... typical room sizes it's likely above 100hz, and below 300hz. It's best thought of as a region... whereas the behavior transitions from distinctly clear resonant behavior (big peaks/dips), toward an area whereby the resonances are so tightly packed they're indistinguishable.

Great video and thoughtful coverage. Make it so much more clear on what goes on behind the scenes. Does the Marantz 8805 allow for the use case you setup on the demon ? where in the sound preset can be saved one for a measurement of individual listening position measurements and another for a wider listening position like family measurement? I do not see the speaker preset in the audio options but the remote does have smart presets. Not sure setting two different measurements one after the other and savings as smart preset 1 and 2 will actually save the EQ filters as well as in the cases a dual speaker selection option. If so that would work ?

How are we supposed to run Audyssey when using multiple subs on Y splitters? Such as 2 subs on Sub 1 and 3 subs on Sub 2? Set the volume for each individually or both (or all three) at the same time being careful that the bass is balanced on that particular line? The reason we do not like Reference is because it KILLS the high frequencies! Couple that with Cinema EQ on, I thought my tweeters were DEAD!
@SoundUnitedTraining3 жыл бұрын
Hi Dave, I asked Jeff Clark and here is his response: "That is correct -- any subs on a single Y splitter should be level balanced BEFORE Audyssey calibration. Ideally they would also be equal in distance from the primary listening position. Finally, there might be benefit in some cases of those subwoofers sharing a y-cord being of the same make/model. Audyssey "Reference" is specifically a replacement for "Cinema EQ" or other forms of "theater compensation" and the two should never be used together. Furthermore MOST discs these days are remixed for home listening. Since these vary by studio, it's down to personal preference disc-to-disc as to whether "Reference" is appropriate. I would say it is likely not appropriate to most discs these days. Early DVDs often had theatrical mixes. That is what "Reference" was designed for." Then there were "THX" discs that had THX "Re-EQ" (Lucasfilm/THX's theater compensation) pre-applied. It was appropriate to use "Flat" for those discs. I'm still working out whether Reference is more appropriate to the new IMAX Enhanced content."
@TheDabbinDave3 жыл бұрын
@@SoundUnitedTraining Reference would be great if I still had my Def Tech towers. They were incredibly bright (front/tweeters) and caused listening fatigue after a half hour or so of music listening. I now have a 20yr old pair of Paradigm Monitor 90p v1. Unfortunately, I know they don’t match the rest of my Def Tech system. But, they are less harsh on the ears and Audyssey does a fair job of EQing. I’ll be running Audyssey again tomorrow when I don’t have to worry about family walking around upstairs.

Once the room correction file has been uploaded to the receiver in Preset 1, what do I need to check in the receiver Setup Menu to make sure it's gtg? Just make sure Speaker Preset 1 is selected in the receiver? Do I have to make sure MultEQ XT32 is turned on and set to a specific setting in the Audyssey menu (i.e. Flat vs Reference)?
@rindershow2123 жыл бұрын
Once you send the final results to your receiver, it will be saved under whatever preset you chose. Audyssey will always be tuned on at this point and the new calibration will be under the" reference " option. It will never be sent to" flat " setting. The only way to know if it's gtg is if you go through the receiver menu and check on some changes that you made in the app. Like for instance Audyssey for some reason will always set front speakers to " large" or set the crossovers differently. So whatever changes you made in the app should show up in the menu of the receiver once you go through the settings in the receiver. Hope this helps.

If a wire is wired incorrectly it can't fix it but Audyssey measures phase. The system automatically correct minor phase issues via the time domain (delay). Note: Audyssey will somethings state that a speaker appears "out of phase" during setup due to the wiring of a speaker's internal crossover. If the speaker is wired correctly you can ignore this warning,

Hallo Philip. I have a question. I find the Audyssey app very nice but the only way it works for me is via a PC with an Android emulator as Bluestacks or Nox and to handle the computer directly from the PC (Windows 10). With an Android tablet or phone, it always crashes. I've contoled everything and fixed all possible "weaknesses" of my internet at house and the modem: everything is OK. Do you have a suggestion? A connection with cable is always better than WiFi. Why does Denon-Marantz not propose Audyssey for PC too?
@juanmillaruelo76473 жыл бұрын
The more convenience and flexibility the better for the user. You've just proven you can use the app from a PC (with emulation). Audyssey app should definitely have Windows and MacOS (with "dual" Intel/Apple silicon versions) to interact with the system through your computer if that is your main device.

Toggling midrange-dip for a speaker affects its target curve and hence EQ calculations, but if you change the detected crossover point (I don't want my mains to play down to 20, but Audyssey detects them as large..) - the target curve is NOT affected - Audssey will still try to achieve a roll-off based on its _detected_ crossover point instead of the one I changed to (in the case of my fronts, no rolloff - in the case of my surrounds, a too high rolloff). Why? And on the subject, why would it even try to achieve a roll-off - that's up to base management to provide based on crossover settings. Shouldn't Audyssey rather try to achieve flat (or whatever the target curve is changed to), down to maybe the XO frequency and maybe another half or whole octave? I.e. don't try do do what bass management already does, but also don't apply useless EQ way below XO point (speakers) or above 120Hz (subwoofer, LFE goes up to there regardless of XO frequency setting).
