I giggled at the comment trashing Yamaha's official tutorial when that's also you, but I agree that this tutorial here is much better- thanks for the graphics to illustrate how things work, I think that's the big difference to be made. Yamaha are right to work with you, even if those official videos can be a little too simplified; I'm so glad the information is out there in proper detail.

Thank you! Well, actually, they do, as I'm one of Yamaha's demonstrators for Europe, and I work with Yamaha Japan on development. I've been working on these kits for a long time now. Thank you for the kind words. Simon

Just curious...I got the 6K-X kit a few months ago because I wanted to re-record some old analog tracks from years past. After setup & shake down I felt confident this kit would do what I want...and I still do...for the most part. It took a few weeks before I even felt comfortable navigating around all the parameters...there are quite a few, but it's nice to have the options. Back to the curious part. I like a real solid snare sound incorporating the rim in my strike giving a real fat piercing sound. After sorting thru many snare preset tones I found a few that sound pretty good and have recorded with them. But after recently completing one more robust rock tune with heavy snare I began mixing the new drum track into my tune and discovered an interesting anomaly. Up to this point all my work was via headphones, but for final mix I went to my very expensive studio monitors and this is when I heard something interesting. As I began EQ'ing the drum track into my tune I started hearing this weird tone within the recorded snare strikes. The best way I can describe it is if you were to bang your stick together. I call it the "stick click" sound. All drummers know this sound. I began digging into the fine tuning parameters to try and isolate, suppress and eliminate this unwanted sound that is somehow within the snare pad tone. I have not yet been able to figure out why this click tone is there. The only thing I do know is it is most prevalent on the stronger snare/rim strikes that are common to my rock tunes. This click does not stand out when playing my lighter or more subtle tunes. I have opened a case with Yamaha support in an effort to find out if there is anything I am missing in my setup parameters or anything else I may have overlooked, but so far I am at a complete loss to this odd issue. I would love to hear from anyone else who may have heard of this and more over, found a remedy without sacrificing your sound.

Have you figured it out? And it seems like the modules really easy to use but apparently there’s many parameters? Also, how good did the drum sound mixed with music? Do they sound pretty? Would it take a more advanced ear to realize they are electronic drums?
@stevend984

Just FYI...I am still "Figuring it out". This video barely scratches the surface of the critical parameters involved with getting a realistic sound and feel. The velocity settings are really critical and he doesn't even mention them here. As far as Yamaha support...they have danced around the issue I presented them and made every excuse to NOT help. This set is not for anyone that doesn't have the patience to figure it out. I have found most of it's limitations and shortcomings but I'm not in a position take, or spend the time to compare with any other kits. As far as the sound...I have already re-recorded four tunes replacing my old acoustic drum tracks analog recorded and I am satisfied with the results. Most would not be able to tell they're not acoustic drums. @@williamperri3437

@@stevend984 killer about the fact you’re saying you would be able to tell they’re not electronic! But WHY do these companies want to make it so hard to get realistic good sounds? 😭 😂 my old Drum teacher and close friend is an amazing producer and engineer so I’m thinking I should buy this module soon to get his help.

William...what I said was "Most people would NOT be able to tell the difference"...between E-drums and Acoustic drums, at least on the tracks I've recorded. And the ones that can or think they can don't matter. It all depends on what level of player you are...what level and musical experience you have...and what you want to do. What is it your, producer, engineer, friend is supposed to help you with?@@williamperri3437

I've just purchased a DTX8K-M after watching your videos, I wasn't 100% until I watched you videos, I have also purchased the Yamaha MS100DR but can't find anything on it, don't suppose you have heard them ?
@edruminfo
@edruminfo 2 жыл бұрын
The MS100DR is a 100watt drum monitor. It's fine for small rooms but it's not designed to gig with. For that you'd need something around 1k (1000watts) minimum (ideally much more) to get it up to the volume of an acoustic drum kit and still have headroom (space so you're not driving the speakers too hard). For bedroom or home use the MS100DR is fine

Does the DTX PROX have better sounds? I keep seeing varying information and thought maybe you would know!
@edruminfo
@edruminfo 2 жыл бұрын
It looks like KZbin deleted my first answer, so... Do you mean 'than the Pro?' The ProX has more detail to many of the samples and if you compare them side by side you can hear the difference. The ProX also has more samples, and more space for your own samples. Those who cant hear the difference maybe listening only to KZbin videos or on average headphones. But the short answer is yes.

@@michaelfinn6518 Ah, apologies - I thought you just meant the stacking on the ProX. To get to the same place as the Pro trigger settings, just turn the mode select knob on the left of the ProX module to Trigger. The ProX has 10 trigger memories, Choose the one you want to work on and press F3 (Setting). Then everything will be identical to the Pro video. When you have made your changes, press Store, and save the trigger settings you have worked on to one of the trigger locations (1-10). PM me through eDrumInfo.com if you want a PDF of this.

Hi Simon, if I use a Roland RT-30HR, which Pad Type should I choose? Thank you
@edruminfo
@edruminfo 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Hendy. You should start with the DT50S setting. However, to get the best results you should really set one up to suit your playing. Set the Gain so it only goes up to 127 on your VERY hardest hits (with the RT-30HR you will have to probably;y turn down the Gain to 1). Set the MinLevel (threshold) so that it ignores any vibration or too quiet hits. Set the Curve so it feels right for you as you play from quiet to loud. Change the Reject Time so the triggering is clean (40ms for toms or kick, less for snare, depending on your playing style). Until you do that, you won't get the best results.

Is it possible to pan the audio for different pads? I play lefty so flipped the kit, but on headphones the spatial sounds are panned for a right handed kit (eg low Tom to the right but I have it left). Or I guess I could wear my headphones backwards.
@edruminfo
@edruminfo 3 ай бұрын
Hi. Many of the samples are stereo and already panned more one way than the other which for a left hander is a problem, as you've found out. You can not universally flip the stereo field of the whole kit, but there are 2 options. Firstly (and I know this sounds stupid but it works) wear your headphones the other way around. However, that doesn't always work, depending on the headiness or in ears. The other is to get a small mixer (more than 2 channels) with panning. Then plug in the master outputs and flip the pan with the pan controls. This is the much better option.

Hey, do you have any recordings of you playing this module with a band? I would love to hear them. Can this module sound like Mic’d acoustic drums or acoustic drums in a mix? I only had maybe 20 minutes with the kit two years ago and I definitely liked Roland stock cymbal sounds better.

@@Frankietomatoes6189 I'm curious as to why it is double triggering. Is this your first electronic kit? Are you normally used to acoustic drums? Have you tried moving the bass drum pad further towards you or further away? It sounds like it may be too far away from you so you are not pushing down on the pedal enough to keep the beater from shaking. I'm not sure. If it is just double triggering try this - turn the knob to Trigger. Go to,Pad Type. Press Enter. Go to Reject Time. Play the bass drum only (very important) and gradually turn this up until it stops double triggering. Can you play normally and see if this allows you to play as you normally do? If it works, save the setting. If it doesn't, get back to me and don't save the trigger setting.

@edruminfo I have 4 acoustic kits and now this kit, not sure if I am using right terminology. I'm just trying to get the pads to play quietly when I need for ghost notes and my kick drum not do a double hit because of mesh. So is there a way to stop it from double noise to basically cancel out 2nd bounce if that makes sense. On acoustic bass not so bouncy. Thanks for replying back much appreciated.
