Great series! I have been playing regionally and nationally for 30 years, so I am definitely and "old dog" I even have had the original Simmons, WHEN THEY WERE NEW lol, however, I am mostly an acoustic player. Over the last 12 years or so, I have been using a Roland TD20 for alot of smaller gigs. It works amazingly well, and I have beat the hell out of it, and it is still going strong. I have taken my time to "create" more natural sounding tones with the module, however, there have always been a few basic things I have never taken the time to really understand, the most annoying being the content of this particular video. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a dumass, it's just really convenient to reference your videos for a quick "refresher" for us old touring hard hitting acoustic drummers when we have to take the electronic kits "out for a ride" THANK YOU! well done!

I had a problem with my edrum after I bought a double pedal, the drum bass was so sensitive it would register the most significant sounds. This video here fixed it for me. Maybe it was something so simple, but i didn't know about it. You guys should take some time with your drum module to explore the settings and see what your drum module is capable of doing. You would be surprised sometimes. Thanks for the video man!

Superb explanation. The velocity control from Superior Drummer (as shown) acts like a basic compressor, a nice aid to subtly controlling the hot-spot on a snare. Also, a great explanation on Mask Time, really happy to have subscribed to your channel.

Hey Brother, Thank you so much for this video I’ve been in a band always played regular drums. Got a Simmons 1000 dinosaur I know lol I was messing around with the module in the trigger threshold ext. settings and i lost the speed of my bass drum kept getting ghost hits couldn’t figure out what i did this video fixed my problem in seconds. Also thanks for explaining the duration time of the hits i messed with that also had an idea of what it did but what i didn’t know is the allowance time before the next drum hit/sound extremely helpful. Now i have the drums sounding and responding exactly how i want to. I built my own kit but didn’t know i can also use this information for the preset kits as well. Now i have it on the prekit setting for the 80s and love it. Thanks a Million 😅

Great video, im upgrading my drums from yamaha dtx 432 to 2box speedlightkit with drumit 5mk2 module, my yamahas didnt have any of these settings but i think that 2box does, specially that kickdrum part was good..i allways leave my beater against the rubberpad and been strugling with that second hit, been playing my sonor acoustic kit since 1983 and last 2years with electrickit at home and instantly noticed that atleast my small yamahakit is way different than acoustic, but easy to play anyway. I know that 2box kit is not a professional one but it fits to my apartment well

I have a probably very newbie question: will these settings still be effective, even if I'm triggering my sounds from my logic pro x program on my mac? Thanks!
@DoblyTufnell6 жыл бұрын
Yes. These settings can be considered at the basic setup of the kit. Cross talk will happen regardless of the module or software.. Triggering sounds from logic don't you take midi from the drum module? If you are getting cross talk there, you'll get it in Logic too.

Another killer video Justin. Thanks. I was wondering what would be a decent Threshold for a acoustic snare drum with remo silent stroke and Roland trigger? I’m feeling that I never get this one right and my ghost notes are always kind of disappearing.
@mikecourt13 Жыл бұрын
The threshold also helps from triggering by hitting other drums so when you hit your snare the vibrations don't go over to the closest Tom and the Tom accidentally triggers too

Hi Justin, I’ve been trying to use my (old) TD-10 V-Drums kit to trigger Superior 3. The velocity that’s recorded is hopelessly low. Because it’s an old unit it doesn’t offer much relating to velocity. I’ve worked pretty hard at it, but it’s not good. Have you heard about this issue with old kits? I’m buying a TD-50 snare, hat, ride and module soon, but I’m trying to get some work done in the meantime. I hate to program when I can play. I love our channel! Thanks for all of your hard work! Best - Tim

Why is the velocity control called like that? What does it have to do with speed? Edit: nevermind, I got it when you talked about mask-time. It's the velocity you hit the pad at.

Great resource! Just picked up a spd 30 using a rt30 and a Roland mesh head on my snare and when I hit the snare at a louder volumes it doesn’t always trigger and feels sluggish when recording, can adjusting the mask time fix this?
@drumwish20104 жыл бұрын
can you shut the rim shot off completely with the gain setting? I play alot of open rim shots on the snare frustrating when rim sound comes on at the same time as snare sound.
@aaronrogalsky4167 Жыл бұрын
Oh man.... Pretty sure you just solved the faulty Roland CY-18DR issue with edge triggering while playing on the bow with scan time! I'll lower the scan and ghost time on the cymbal and see if the lower "waves" cancel our triggering the edge while riding on the bkw. Tons of ppl have been having this issue, even with numerous replacements ($900 cad for cymbal alone 🤦🏼♂️). You my friend may have been a life saver. The td-27 manual doesn't really explain any of this in detail. I'll keep ya posted!

Hey Justin, Im not sure if you'd know anything about this - But I just bought a Roland Td-50kv and I have Addictive Drums 2 Software im running. I cant for the life of me figure out how to do custom"Mapping" for these drums ? The set feels all wrong and the hihat and cymbals are the worst feeling. Tried mapping but its complicated. There is so many Stroke Types its dizzying. XLN has NO helpful videos at all. Do you know anything about AD2 ? Thanks
@Heliophobos6 жыл бұрын
I also use AD2 in conjunction with my electronic drum kit. Maybe I can help you. If you want to reassign to different pads, go to "? -> Map Window" Select a sound using the buttons in the upper middle (Cym 3, Flexi 1, Snare, etc.) Now select the desired sound (like Tom 1 Open Hit), click the "Learn" button and then strike the pad you want to assign that sound to. Now this sound is mapped to the pad you hit. Make sure to also adjust the velocity curve in case it doesn't feel right. When you're done, go to the drop-down menu under "Map Preset" and save your custom mapping. I can't help you with positional sensing or the more advanced hihat settings, since my hardware is a lot more basic than yours. However, a quick Google search should lead you to someone who had the exact same problem and found a solution for it.
