Anyone know why that center bar doesn't extend further to touch the cross bar at a 90* angle? Seems as if it would add a lot of strength but I never see anyone do it? Surely there is a good reason. Thanks

Bc the slide in the middle floats in/out with suspension movement. See grease fitting in the rear.
