The waving neon-lime paper tag on the right motor's eyelet screw indicates that it has been recently overhauled. I see you grabbed the opportunity to capture and share the moment of recommissioning of the motor's new lease on life. Very nice.

VFD - i hear the harmonics! LOVE IT! thank you for posting!
@Bandicoot80317 күн бұрын
Objection: That's not VFD behind this, it's a soft starter chopping phases. You can hear the 60Hz grid carrier frequency humming at the initial run. The high pitch are the magnetic field interaction with the squirrel cages and partitioned pole pairs.

@@Bandicoot803 SCR - ok. you are right about initial 60hz, not lower frequency ramping up.

Heater coils, Time-Delay fuses, Time-Delay overloads, multi-stage motor windings, centrifugal switches... The list does go on. While I love that we can fit an entire cabinet inside the space of a microwave now, it's a lot less personal when you just have to hot-swap a drive and off she goes.
@tristan650918 күн бұрын
You can run the motor in series with a lightbulb for soft starting, it limits the inrush current and you'll see the lightbulb glow before slowly dimming.
@prestonburton850418 күн бұрын
@@dirtbikenrcman we call it 'delta/wye' reduced voltage motor starter in our industry (America) - huge clanging contactors - very abrupt and very hard on themselves as well as motor and leadouts! I have an early 20s model with a clock delay timer that you wind up once a week -that can do about 30 starts before having to be hand wound, just like a clock!

Those solar panels up on the roof are going to have work really hard. I'm all for clean energy but stuff like this that suck up so much juice. A few other industries that use huge amounts of electricity like steel mills other metals refining facilities. We complain about China being such a big polluter because they continue to run the coal generators to run the dirty steel mills because we have all decided that we do not want that dirty business next to our homes.
