This pump lasted only 2 1/2 years until the o-rings wore out in the pump cylinders. Unrepariable For that short life I'm dropping the rating to 3 stars. Bought a new pump - see this review kzbin.info/www/bejne/r3i1oHhnq79gors

Looking at the comments and peoples comments on electric pumps and these. You can pump up a tyre from flat with a £30 or so 12 volt electric pump tyre inflator, yes I am in the UK. However the choice of pump is crucial and some will run off the cigarette/lighter socket but those sockets are usually only suitable for 10 amp, or the battery for greater amperage. (Note that most of these electric tyre inflators you can only run for about 5 minutes or so without a rest and then allow them to cool down.) I tend to run the engine when using these electric ones to ensure that I don't flatten the battery. If the tyre is completely flat jack up the wheel so that all the weight is off it to enable the bead to seat and to ensure that the tyre is not against the Schrader valve when at the bottom of the tyre and restricting the ingress of air. I have both electric and foot pumps and there's a place for each. If you electric inflator fails then you can still use the foot pump. And if you need to use away from a vehicle with a good 12 volt supply then you can still pump up tyres, etc. I have my motorcycle in a rented garage with no electric and I can check and pump the tyres up there without needing an additional power supply such as a car there. Many of the cheaper foot pumps, as mentioned, have problems with stability and the frames bending to make them unusable. The better pumps either use thicker steel, or the frames are pressed to give reinforcement.

You are correct and I do now have an electric tyre/tire pump (DeWalt DCC020IB as an xmas gift) We have a few electric pumps in the family. My daughter has a Slime brand electric pump, which works very slowly and the pressure reading is way off. 35psi real measured 52psi on the slime gauge. My son & I both have a tire inflator for our B&D Matrix drills. Works nicely except the little pump is not lubricated and he blew through the connecting rod on his first pump. Mine was getting less use because of the foot pumps, but I took mine apart and put chain lube on the con-rod bearings hoping for a longer life. It hasn't blown yet, but now I (we both) have the dewalt. The dewalt is a nice pump with many nice features - accurate pressure reading, auto shutoff at set pressure. The batteries are stupid expensive but they do make an AC adapter to run it in the garage. Hard to get though. (google this--> dcc020ib ac power adapter) For running from the cars 12V outlet, I had to run the engine or the pump simply shut down after 1 second (over current protection??) I now change my own car tires - yea I know, I'm a glutton for punishment. But I've always changed my own bike tires. For that I use the foot pump to get the pressure up to 30psi, then let the dewalt finish off the pressure before balance and install. kzbin.info/www/bejne/r2fVZI2ef6proKM Check the text under the video for links to all 5, if that interests you.

I expected these double barrel foot pumps to give a reading first so you would know if the tyre needs more pressure or not. So now I'll have to go out and buy another gadget. Damn!!!

The gauges all claim they are super accurate, but more often than not, they are wrong. I did swap this one with a more accurate older gauge I had saved. My daughter has a Slime electric pump, so I tried it out and the gauge on that was way off. 35psi on my gauges read as 55psi on the slime pump. I always check with a 0-50psi pencil style gauge, that I know is about right. I wonder how discount tire, Big-O etc check their gauges?

Well in the USA they sell for around $35 see this amazon link - the one I tested is near the bottom (some of the others look flimsy) www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_2?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=Double+Barrel+Foot+pump But if you look on Alibaba, they are very cheap and the price can vary around the world. www.alibaba.com/showroom/double%252bbarrel%252bfoot%252bpump.html Some of those look very flimsy too - For a foot pump you need a very sturdy frame

See my comments under the video. I don't think they make it anymore. Search amazon with " Double Barrel Foot pump " I have the Audew pump now, but it has less air per stroke

Which one do you recommend? Single or double cylinder type?
@richbinaz
@richbinaz 5 жыл бұрын
The dual cylinder style is generally more stable when you step on it for pumping. Don't pick those with the flimsy metal bar sides, they are hopeless The newest pump I just got (see link in text under video) has small cylinders and doesn't pump much air - although the effort is much less per stroke. These things change all the time and seem to be done as soon as the o-rings wear a little in the cylinders

Yeah, but what everybody wants to kwow is how long does it take to inflate a tyre from zero.

It can take an infinite amount of time if the tire(tyre) bead isn't seated. With this pump, it can take a long time... Just did a tire repair on my sons CX5 tire with a tire plug (after removing the nail) and had to pump that from 0 psi. We took turns, didn't time it, but we were both tired(tyred) at the end of that exercise... but it can be done. The plug we used is here www.stopngo.com/ It's working better than leaving the nail in the tire!

@@richbinaz Thanks for your reaction. I'm still wandering what's better, this thing or an electric pump (even the 'heavy duty' ones are not very impressive)

@@EXQCmoi I have experienced those small electric pumps that run off the car battery and generally they don't have the kind of power needed to pump a tire from 0 psi. I've had a pump that fits my black & decker matrix drill, stop pumping. took it apart and found the piston to be fine but the connecting rod was broken, due to lack of lubrication... there was none. Not sure how much you have to spend to get a decent electric powered air pump that will not fail after a few uses.

Nothing wrong with Vaseline but silicone grease/oil would be better choice.

Found an amazon usa link for a better air chuck to put on the end of a 1/4" fuel hose line for this pump www.amazon.com/Compressor-Portable-Inflator-Connector-Chuck-2Pack/dp/B076F2PL5H/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1524163238&sr=8-2&keywords=LUMITECO&dpID=41L1PkdIr2L&preST=_SY300_QL70_&dpSrc=srch As for a decent gauge, try searching for a 1/8" NPT Gauge

My brief research says Vaseline only harms natural rubber - the white stuff that come right out of a rubber tree. it's OK with O-rings, synthetic rubbers and plastics.

Probably. It would be better if I wrote a script It would be better if I did it in a studio It would be better if I had actors doing all the grunt work for me. Where to stop?? People say I mumble, they are right. As Popeye says " I Yam what I Yam". I have no plan to change who I Yam :)

I'm not sure it is available thru Amazon anymore. Plus it just failed on me after 2 1/2 years use. The O-rings are worn out in the cylinders and are not repairable. I'm trying a new pump kzbin.info/www/bejne/r3i1oHhnq79gors

Nonsense product. Get a electronic pump with LCD display.

I have an electric pump that attaches to my black & decker Matrix drill. It is fairly good, but it is slow to fill tires. Have to run it for a long time, specially on the 60 psi spare in the trunk (boot). My son has a similar pump and he used it all the time. Had to get him another one as it failed. When we took it apart, we discovered that the bearings on the connecting rod for the piston are lubricated with hope. The big end of the connecting rod had split open and the crankshaft pin had pushed thru it. It was toast. Took mine apart, it was starting to go the same way, so I greased it and drilled a hole thru the case so I can put some chain lube on it from time to time. My daughter has an electric slime pump that runs of 12V with an LCD display. It pumps very slowly and the pressure it shows is wildly off compared to the 3 other gauges I have. I put a piece of tape on it and wrote on the tape 55psi indicated = 35psi real. The point being is that it is hard to find a decent pump that doesn't fail in a year, or when you step on it for the first time and that you should treat all pressure readings as preliminary until you can check it against a known reasonably accurate gauge. It shouldn't be this hard to find a good foot or electric pump, but there is a lot of junk out there.
