I've been using four of these cameras for about a year, and I think they are version 2 since they have Power over Ethernet. Initially, I used a DVR, but after experimenting with a desktop-run DVR with 250 megabytes of chip storage, I realized that it was not worth the money. The DVR lacked features compared to simply using the camera's built-in storage and its integrated DVR.

Just a small remark plz update your Amazon duo 3 link , I think it points to the NVR . Are there similar cameras at this price point ?

Oops! Had the links swapped. Thank you for the heads up. What specific feature are you looking for in a camera?

Bought one but didnt realize required the nvr to setup web streaming... time to return.

No. You should be able to connect it to power and your network and be able to view it in the app.

@ThisSmartHouse apparently the android client is extremely nerfed compared to the pc client... nor sure why, android runs on arm and arm based tablets are basically mini laptops,someone needs get the memo... but yes, once went to effort to fire up the windows box it was very easy to setup. Although, I am sending data to synology surveilance and surveilance doesn't yet have official duo 3 supported..but duo 2. The zoom feature in surveilance does work awesome though.

What feature is missing on the Android client? The only time I used the PC client was to export a long video for the police. Back before I had my NVR, I used the doorbell through my Android app without many issues. I would think the only thing they need to add to the synology is support for the extra wide image. I just set up a Synology NAS, so I will have to play with that!

@@ThisSmartHouse None of the advanced stuff is in the android client, but specifically enabling the network service ports synology needs.

did you say duo 3 zooms in and out ?
@ThisSmartHouse8 ай бұрын
It does not physically zoom. You can digitally zoom in and out in the app by pinching the video display.
@TheTruth43137 ай бұрын
@@ThisSmartHouse They obviously didn't try digital zooming from the windows client from a laptop with touchpad. They have no onscreen controls. They have it work with ur mouse scroll which in this case means touchpad gestures. And it also resets back to non-zoom every time you skip thru the the timeline. Freakin stupid. It also has no skip fwd/back buttons. Only via the timeline. The software needs a lot more work to be useful.

are you sure the duo only counts as one camera not two?
@ThisSmartHouse3 ай бұрын
The Duo 1 counted as two. The Duo 2 and 3 only count as one. I have both the 1 and 3.
@DougOrDouglas3 ай бұрын
@@ThisSmartHouse@ThisSmartHouse, The website says the 8-channel never can do 6 duos v2/v3 total, probably due to power consumption. I should be able to do 4 duos, a doorbell, and another regular camera. On the 8channel, I find the 16 channels big and noisy. Or the Wi-Fi NVR has 12 channels. So with poe switch, it should have more expandability even if you just want to only poe cameras, not wifi for about the same price.

Did you really say the plastic gives it a durable and premium feel ? 🤔 plastic and premium shouldn’t be used in the same sentence
@ThisSmartHouse4 ай бұрын
There are different types of plastics. This one doesn't feel cheap.

does it only take up ONE nvr channel
@ThisSmartHouse2 ай бұрын
Yes, the Duo v2 and v3 only take up one channel on the NVR. I am not sure if there is a cut off on on the older NVRs. You might want to contact support if you have an older NVR.
