The tach drive looks mechanical, with that grease zerk. That's something new to me. I heard the old GM HEI can lose spark at above 5500 rpm. I've heard good things about MSD coils and controller. One step closer.

Hi Mike.. yes it is a mechanical tach drive distributor that I bought for that old stingray vet...the vet had a mechanical tachometer in it from the factory and didn't want to spend the money for the MSD distributor with the tach drive...I think they cost around 500.00 at that time... But we will see how well this system works.... 👍

@@Myersmetalworks I never had the pleasure to work much on Corvettes and did not know they had mechanical tachs. Very Interesting. It was also very interesting how you converted the points system to a magnetic pickup. If you do some dyno testing you might see how the tach does at higher rpm levels.

I really enjoy watching this engine build! Will you be taking the engine to the dyno? I'm building a stroker with the AFR 290 heads.

Thanks 489special for the nice comment... I would like to get it dynoed at some time but don't want to make any promises... and wow stroker and AFR 290 heads should run very strong...👍

You made excellent choices in parts for the build! I built a 427 with the same cam you are running and it pulls very hard. I think you will be happy with the results, hopefully we could see a back road teaser at some point!

Thanks 489special for the good information about the cam choice.... Back road teaser will have to wait until I find a the car for it- the corvette it was going to be installed in, I no longer own so on the look out....😀

Hello, I want to buy an electronic conversion kit for my 73 model AMC 401 V8 engine. I'm not sure which brand my distributor is. It could be Dual point Mallory or Accel. I will add visual photos. I would be happy if you help.

How can I send you photos?
@Myersmetalworks Жыл бұрын
Not sure I would know either.... look for a part number on the distributor and do a internet search and see what comes up...
