DUAL SCREEN!! Installing an ACARDASH Android dual screen unit in a 2015 Macan

For this video, I travelled 800 miles to install and review a dual screen ACARDASH android unit into a 2015 Macan Turbo. This demo unit was provided by ACARDash (www.acarmultimedia.com). Tune in so that you can watch out installation adventures, as well as an in-depth review of this unit.

I already filmed the clock but waiting on ACARDash to see if they are going to update. Thanks for your kind words. I used REW in a Microsoft Surface laptop. You can use Mac as well. I used a calibrated mic I got from Parts Express with a calibration file that I loaded into REW. I entered the values for the Harman reference curve. REW is free to download. When doing the tuning, I use an uncorrelated pink noise as a source which is played through the system and captured by the microphone. I move the microphone at ear level from left to right to left and so forth until I get a good average. Then adjust frequencies in the unit to try to match the reference curve. This requires flashing the system. It is a 2GB file. Request to ACARDash.

You need a USB flash for this. It is about 1.9G in size. Ask ACAR for this.

@@bradpanganiban7838 did you request the file from ACAR? And did you flashed it? The file they should provide already changes that text when you complete flashing. Nothing to do. If you still have Black Gold, it means they gave you incorrect flash file.

Thank you so much, I own a 2018 and this is very appealing. Does the unit retain any of the vehicle specific screens that show vehicle status, mpg etc?

It doesn’t retain specific PCM screens, however, there are alternative ways to get ECU information in these type of screens using OBD2 dongles with appropriate App. With these type of apps you actually get even more information in these screens than what you can get in PCM. You can partially see some of this information when I’m showing how to scroll app from one screen to the other. You can also change vehicle settings from the unit, thanks to the CanBus interface. It all depends on what you want. Some of the guys going for it want to have dual display to be able to run CarPlay at same time they have an app like Torque displaying car parameters on the other. Some others just want to give passenger ability to watch movies, etc. In my specific case, I still have the 12.3" unit in my car and giving serious thoughts to get a dual display, but haven't made my decision yet. I ended up purchasing this unit for my 2018 Porsche Macan and overall the installation went well. I noticed that there has been a couple of times now that when I would get into the car there would be no sound and then if I shut the car off and then restart again which of course reboots the screens the sound will suddenly work. Have you experienced anything like this?

I have the dual screen installed in my 2015 Macan S. I have not experienced this yet. At cold start I let my engine idle down before driving. During this period I let the unit boot up fully so that I can open the Torque Pro app

Having trouble getting rear camera to work on my 2018. Is the yellow Fakra connector for the rear cam? In your video you say “data” and on the connector it says USB so a bit confusing. Thanks for your help!

The rear camera connection is done via yellow RCA connection (not fakra). The yellow fakra is USB Data. Nothing to do with rear view camera. You need to make sure you connect the right yellow RCA connectors. There are a few of them… Thanks for watching and subscribe to the channel!

I am getting static sound from speakers when i turned on the heat or AC after i installed this unit. Did you get anything similar problem? i have a burmester system from factory.

This is odd. I didn’t experience that in this unit when we installed it, and neither in the unit I just installed in my Macan. Did you taped all connections? I taped all connections to make sure there wasn’t going to be contact or things were going to disconnect. That happened to me and it was because I ran the antenna cables under the dashboard to the passenger side which is close to the AC blower. Try running the cables to the opposite side or keep it behind the radio itself close to the clock. I bought the adapter to keep the OEM antenna. Let me know how it goes

A friend of mine recently installed this Android Dual Screen unit. How can we change the word "Black Gold" to "Macan S"? The 360 camera car image is not a Macan and has gray angles in the edges how can we solve?

@@marcotube85 There is no easy way to change the word “Black Gold”. This seems to be fixed with the firmware. Therefore, we asked ACAR to change the wording and they came up with the Turbo S solution and sent a 2GB firmware file that we had to apply to our units. Your friend can ask ACAR for the file and apply it, but it will say Turbo S. At least that’s better than Black Gold. I don’t think that the silhouette can’t be easily changed either, unless is changed by ACAR. There are no Macan options either for the Door Ajar, best we can do is select Cayenne. I would recommend to make your concerns known to ACARDash. Thanks and subscribe to the channel!

@@WilliamvanNunen A lot of the functionality is retained due in part to the CanBus decoder. For example, you have the ability to lower and increase volume using steering wheel, including muting. Also you can control functions in your car using a specific menu, which allows you to set some options that you would normally access via MFD or PCM. Rear view camera works, as you saw in the video, etc…. Since you can’t connect LVDS cable, you lose the connectivity between the unit and the MFD, meaning that you can’t see the map in MFD anymore, etc…. But these are things that I never used.

This must be a setting. I know in my FYT 12.3" unit there is a setting in hidden menu that I use to tell the unit I have non-360 camera. There must be same setting in the dual unit. Unfortunately, I don't have this unit installed in my Macan. I'll have to ask the person who owns the Macan where we installed this unit. How did you change the bootup logo?

Copy the BMP format boot logo I put in the link in video description into a thumb drive (thumb drive needs to be less than 32GB and formatted to FAT32). Once you do that, place thumb drive into data USB port of unit. Then, go to settings - car infotainment - about device. Then hit the gear symbol near the first line and enter 8888 as code. You’ll see a menu there, one that says Boot Logo. Press that and then you will see the screen with different options. On the left you’ll see the USB, press that, that will bring the logo in thumb drive. Select and save. You will need to reboot. Hopefully this helps. Subscribe to the channel!

You can use OEM camera. Will work well. If you watch the video you see that the rear camera view is actually from OEM camera. For the logo, you need a BMP file that is 1920x1440 with 2 images centered one on top of other equally spaced. I can make one that I made available. Will post link later.

I think this is the case with all these Android units. They have these type of screens. Do you know of any Android unit with OLED? PCM3.1 is certainly not OLED, so this is an improvement from PCM3.1, I think.
