I disassembled Sony's first Pro Controller, the DualSense Edge. Now we take a closer look at the adaptive trigger, and how it differs to the original.
I'm surprised to see there's more than what was advertised. Did Sony put a Hall Sensor in this trigger?

The adaptive trigger potentiometer is not for the position of the trigger itself but for the position of the motor. And as konishiwoi already wrote, the hall sensor is for the position of the trigger and the trigger stop lever sensor is to make sure the controller sends a "trigger is fully pulled" signal, regardless of the stop lever setting.

The lever to detect the position is probably so the controller knows a trigger stop is engaged making the trigger stop not strickly mecanichal but also incorporated into the software to the adaptive triggers remain functionnal without conflict with the next boundaries of the trigger. Then the hall effect is here for the actual analog imput of the trigger

Yeah I think you're right, cause the trigger wouldn't press down on the pressure sensor button if the trigger stop is active.

It knows for sure. I was testing the input range yesterday and I noticed when I engage the trigger stop, it will automatically adjust the max input range to the current level of the stop so that it still reads as a full press. Impressive.

What this means in a game like warzone now, is that you can keep the trigger stop engaged at all times, and not have to worry about disengaging it to hop into a vehicle so you can drive it.

Sony did NOT advertise ANY hall sensors for this controller. Maybe it offers additional, more accurate tracking of the shoulder button? I'm unsure, but it's confusing why they would go halls on the shoulders but potentiometers on the analogs.... maybe a contract with ALPS or something... Either way, I can't wait to drop some gulikit's into this thing!

the analogs are replaceable without tearing down the whole controller now, so using hall effects on those analog sticks would be a stupid business strategy since, you know, you can just force them to pay $20 instead of giving a free and permanent solution.

Maybe. A thicker spring can be tensioned so it flexes back with the same force as the thinner one. But I haven't investigated it.

Question for you. Why would the adaptive tension in the right trigger he slightly weaker than in the left? For example, in a game where an effect causes the triggers to tighten up, requiring a stronger trigger pull. The right is slightly weaker than the left. 🤔

Can you tell me that in Gran Turismo 7 the Dualsense Edge has also Deadzone for L2 and R2 ? I mean the standard one has no settings to adjust for Deadzone L2 R2, but if you put Dualsense Edge L2 and R2 Deadzone to 0, then in the game it would be same as with Standard controller. Also the standard controller with approx 75% push in the game its 100%, so there is huge deadzone in the end also. So do you think settings for Dualsense Edge can solve this problem ?

@@richardhunter9779 4ms or 250hz is a default polling rate of dualsense, and that's slower than 99% of gaming mouse and keyboards, most use 1000hz polling rate and some models even use 4000hz and 8000hz. @@garyr5866 yes, when nearly all 3rd party controllers lack the wireless, rumble, haptic feedback, it becomes overpriced. Compared to the dualsense, prior ps controllers like the ds2 and ds3 look like they should've been $30. The edge is so much more complex and we have a ton of features. Even if the edge was $150 that would be expensive to most, but again well worth it, meaning it's not overpriced.

SONY started to actually think for a change 🥳 (I could've took actual mouse switches for the short travel though, yes, it's doable by all metrics and considerations.. but I guess I'm stretching it a bit too far for how much can you realistically ask for a first iteration) Back paddles that can be reverse mounted and also the half domes.. AND.. CONVEX/DOMED STICKS.. 🤯 Have I accidentally slipped in a parallel Universe where things actually make sense or what.. 🤔 ? Oh, wait, no.. the battery.. Now we're back to reality.. Still, great feats of logic by SONY.. That's still amazing stuff.
