It's a poorly engineered console. For a frequently faulty part, replacement shouldn't require complete dismantling.

Thanks for the step by step instructions, I was able to fix my stick drift, there was no carbon but the potentiometer copper rings were a bit loose. I tightened them and put it back together, it's working great!!

Okay so I had this exact same problem for the last 2 days I’ve been looking everywhere for a video to help me figure out what’s wrong and how I could fix it but it was with my left joystick not my right joystick and I did everything you did step by step and it actually worked! I tried so many things and thought I was going to have to buy a new controller because nothing was working and now I don’t have to spend like 80 dollars and not have to wait to play thanks for the video and the step by step instructions if you have this problem definitely try it I pulled those little coil things out and there was bunch of black stuff on the plastic part cleaned it off and now works like brand new

Just received my 3 gen on the mail, got one “for pieces” because it was stuck on Apple logo, so just did the diagnostic and it is the hd ofc, which is fine, was afraid the screen would be defective too or something but everything else seems to work fine. Now I’ll just get a new battery and mod the storage. Will be looking into the thing to remove scratches on the front plate cause he looks really sad but your before and after just made my day.
