Very nice look at how you tend to the bulls. My father was the herd manager on a hereford farm in Maryland. He had a belly sling inside a stall for doing procedures. I bet he'd have been interested in your setup. My father smoked but even decades ago, he NEVER smoked inside any building and no one else was allowed to either. The designated smoking places were next to the concrete water tanks and there was a dented bucket for butts.
i may be four years late but do you know where the farm was at? i live near a pretty big hereford farm down in here in southern maryland and honestly i’m just curious as to if he either knows them if that’s as the farm he was the herd manager on.

If you handle him when he's a young, and pick up his feet pretty regularly, like you do when you train a horse, you might not need to go through all of this. My horses will let you touch every inch of their bodies, as will one of my pet pigs. A rescue pet pig of mine, was never handled much and she's a pain to help, like hoof trimming. I discovered that 2 lite wine coolers gets her wasted and I can quickly trim her hooves. I love this big ol' guy, though!

That big bull seems to be afraid but i think that is normal and there is no other way how to do that. Here in Germany they took a farmer to court because he knocked on the horns of a cow with a wooden stick to calm her down. This didn't hurt, they only hear the knocks in their head and become distracted

Never seen it done this way before. We would never get our bulls on that, it'd be too dangerous. We put our 2,100 pound Holstein bull through a pull behind hoof trimmer shute once and it Damn near tipped it over from thrashing around. Good thing your bulls seem fairly docile.

These guys ain’t assholes. Being vegetarian, I know where this goes and how their children get eaten, but it’s nice to see compassion. I’m interested in getting working bovines. I live in the dairy belt and my uncle owns 26 Holsteins. I’ve seen plenty of jerseys and Swiss. Never shorthorn which I would love. I’m wondering if a bull can be taught to do work. Yeah I know they’re aggressive, but I’m patient and love big things and want something that can handle heavy loads. Should I do it? Or should I get an ox team like normal ppl.

Just imagine, if only you could train a ton of a bull to "give paws" like a dog can. Wouldn't that be so much simpler? It's a pity that cattle has so much less logic reasoning than a dog. I do however respect and love all animals, in specific cattle and do not think for a minute they are stupid at all. It's just that you have to gain their trust first and sometimes that requires the patience of a Saint! BTW the walls and rims of the hooves (on the outside) should always remain sharp and naturally edged, so one must never be 'bevelling' these edges.

I was going to report this video, but then I saw they are only trimming the bull's hooves, which is a natural thing to do. My guinea pig looks the same when I trim her claws. She does struggle and tries to break free, but eventually she is okay. It does look cruel when done to a bull, but pet owners do exactly the same thing to guinea pigs and dogs. The other day I saw a blacksmith trimming hooves of a horse. (The horse wasn't tied down, but the activity served the same purpose). I would like an animal expert to reply to this. Is the bull being hurt in the video? Is there another way to do it?
@whitneya.69306 жыл бұрын
syrop26 With cattle this is the safest way to do it for both animal and handler. Most cattle aren't socialized like horses to stand for up close and personal handling and they don't balance well on three legs. I've seen systems that allow the cow to stand and only raise one foot at a time, but they are supported by two large belly bands so they don't fall.
@annebell72744 жыл бұрын
Gee Whiz !!!! I hope those leather belts don't give. He's a big lad. Ive only ever seen it done when the Bulls/Cows stand (in a Crush) and they raise their feet individually (The Hoof GP) .Do the Bulls ever seem stressed out with this method or quite chilled and happy ? I have seen advertised equipment that use this table system. Some machine. I would love to see a video of the complete trim. ☺☺🌷🌿🌷

I just got 20 Heffers and 4 new pairs and yeah I’m learning as I go. I know just about everything but this. Why do it? What’s the benefits? Is it okay to ignore doing this? I’ve never heard of someone doing this and I worked at the chain ranch. Beckman ranch all my teen years.

I’m doing a feed lot type of thing with my farm. I’m also helping my buddy get started with his cattle. His dad died when he was 8 and he just turned 18 so he just got all 750 acres in his name.
