Not a fair comparison 4V 9W vs 18V (and is the 18V really cordless, I could see a cord from the battery to the iron), This soldering iron look like it would be OK for lighter work loads along the lines of RGB LED's and small circuit boards connections with smaller gauge wires.

It is ok for really small stuff…. But mostly useless

You might have a dud, the one I've just got is sound, With in 15 seconds it's up to a working temp, and the cable to cable test gave me a quick, solid bond. But, the three cable solder isn't so sound, at one stage the frigin thing stuck to the cable. It will do for light jobs, just like inside of electronics where less heat is needed. One thing is for sure, It defo won't work for grounding cables on top of a guitar pot.

Yup, gutar pots have a lot of thermal mass! it deffo wont work with them,... i do use mine ocasionally but as you say, light duty work! Best, Howard

I like mine but I only use it for heat set inserts on 3D printed parts

That's a really good idea!!

That Taz guy sent me the link to this same iron, I figured it wouldn't be that good and shared it with a few friends who agreed that there's no way it would do any proper jobs. Glad to see this video proves us right. Pity though as a decent, low priced, battery powered soldering iron would be great.

Yeah this needs to be 15watts. Two 18650 batteries would drop the job-8v instead of 4v

Even with that POS iron, still managed better soldering than most of those '5 Minute Craft' videos 🤣 save money, buy a TS100 (Or whatever the new equivalent is)

Crafty Panda 🐼 can go screw when it comes to soldering!! :-). I adore the TS100

A sod of a soldering iron then. Sadly we all remember Mr Blobby 😂

Wasn't that based in cricket st Thomas ... is Blobby still haunting that area?

@@DubiousEngineering it was, he vacated a long time ago although there was some pink and yellow remnants there last time I visited (about 15/20 years ago)

Have you tried flux on the wire. And for left handed people deactivate the sensor it's quite simple. Flux it works awesome.
@DubiousEngineering Жыл бұрын
The solder is rosin cored flux ... Sadly for most of my applications the tip just doesn't have the thermal mass. But it is useful up to a point...

Agree, I got the Lidl equivalent a year or so ago that looks very similar and found the same - sticks to what it solders if there's any thermal mass. Got a TS101 with me birthday money and it's worlds better. You get what you pay for.

Absolutely... The TS100 is a fabulous tool! I wish Aldi had put two batteries in this device and made it 15 watts!

I had a look at one of these in my local. There's ways to make it better, but out of the box with a twig as a tip, nah.

I'd love it to have two 18650 batteries in it and the ability to achieve 15watts

you can't compare 4v to a 18v 🤣😂🤣

That 4v iron just doesn’t work…. It just doesn’t have the thermal mass. But yeah, a 30watt iron vs a 5watt iron is a bit unfair…
