Enjoyable video Howard. Shame about the difficulty in disassemble but great to see the actual fault and very useful to others with the same TV failure 👍🍻

Yes, thanks for the video. I have a Panasonic with the same fault symptom. Although the screen starts to light up and the green light comes on momentarily, then the red light flicks on and off ..

8:50 LED strips never fail in pairs like you see there. However the connections to the strips do! 9:26 It's not a conspiracy. It's FACT! Open any newer TV up and all you see is folded ribbon cabled taped down to just the right tension so that over time and many cycles, some of the cables in the ribbon structure can and DO change their resistance and the end result is what you see here. Naughty Panasonic, however they all do this now otherwise any of these LED smart TV's would easily last 30 years and we can't have that now can we????????

Hi, if your new LED strips don't fix it, you could turn the tv into a big sort of panel light - DIY perks has a video about making lights out of tvs - very easy just get some cheap adhesive led strips, but them in and then all the diffusers and fresenel lenses layers make is a big soft light. I've done it with a couple of broken tv's I found on the street and it works well.

I did the same as you. Found a set of LEDs that were not working, got a new set off Ebay from china and it still didn't work. The boards were ok. They over drive the LEDs to give the tv a nice vivid picture, if you turn the brightness down a little right out of the box, the set will last much longer.

1:35 Note the FOLDED ribbon cable under the black tape? That is an engineering no no. Ribbon cables must always be absolutely flat and even for the entire run. Remove the tape and gently unfold the ribbon cable and then let it flap around in the breeze inside the TV cavity. There is no need to do what Panasonic have done here. LOL. To allow the main cable to be folded like that from the computer to the driver is absolutely asking for trouble. Cheers.

Great video.. Spewing after buying those 3 replacement boards, least you have 6 boards you can sell now... I have my brothers PANASONIC 42" LED TH-42AS700A, which powering on gradually became problematic untill if finally wouldn't power on , ( was no more than 2 years old ) but resulted in a fast Green LED blink code ( aparently power board failure code) , which is next to the stand by light ..anyways I immediately thought of Electrolytic capacitor damage but noticed they were all Rubycon which are generally the best.. Any other ideas appreciated. Cheers

@@DubiousEngineering LG 4K UHD's suffer a very convenient "out of warranty" manufacturing issue. The symptom is "Could not establish an internet connection, retry". And it is not a software issue as so many thousands of owners think. The Bluetooth and the WiFi transmitter are connected by very fine "ribbon" cables that LG decided to FOLD at 90 degree angles! Works fine for a few years then gradually more and more loss of WiFi error codes. Solution? I pulled the back off our 65" and simply "unfolded" the ribbon cables and the extreme tie downs and simply removed the tension and made them all nice and dead flat again. Re-assembled and has worked like a charm for over two years now. The secret is that LG "cover" the folded sections of ribbon with a black tape so you can't see the kinks. If you don't look closely it would be easy to miss. Grrrrrrr @ LG! Cheers!

You ought to remake that TV into a 'fixable' model that hinges open like a car trunk, uh boot? It might be the longest-lasting appliance if you could make it easy to replace parts. Companies do not want things to last for a long time now, want to sell more and more. Gone are the days of repairable appliances, buy one for the rest of your life. Now it is replace with the 'latest version'. UGH. Ah, but you tried, and a new work area for a bit of a change. Could you make a table out of it or something? Or can you test your new saw and cut it into easy-to-remove bits that fit into the recycling bins? I'm a year older today. No party, just some ice cream and moonshine beverage later.

@DubiousEngineering 2 жыл бұрын
OOoh... Happy Birthday Karen! I'd love some of that moonshine!! Does it come in a glass jar!?!? Anyway... I did get it fixed by replacing the LEDs, but then sadly broke it again after trying to re-assemble. So... out came the chop saw - I made it real small and put it in the bin!! :-)

Hello, I have the same problem with TX-40AS640,PSU have 15.5V and 21V instead of 16 and 24, because signal TV_SUB_ON from digital board is missing. I apply it from 5.3V, PSU working well but TV don't start. I saw PNL_12V rail is down, I apply Enable signal for 12V PSU. rail is OK,, it supplies the T-CON, which looks ok, TV don't start... 😂. So. yeah... The LED strips must be the problem

Often if you take power lead out, then press the physical ON button for 10 seconds this can help reset. I have the blinking red LEDs - 7. Apparently this is the 3.3v line not keeping to required voltage then the PS gets shut off. It is sometimes instant then won't switch on (until I do above). I saw one dude trace back to a fault cap on the LED mosfet. In out case the Mrs put some water out for the cats ... they knocked it over back of TV and it poured out. Glad to see what has to be done to get inside the LED array. Looks like I will be ordering a new TV ... and new cats. I think I will try to see if disconnecting the LED board allows the power to stay on - if so then likely like you it is problem with the array and well then it isn't worth parts canoning the thing. The 32" LCD Samsung has been promoted back to main TV. That has lasted almost 3 x as long as the Wanasonic. Maybe the Mrs will get that Bravia she kept on about. Thanks for posting. And good haircutting skills.
