Can you explain what there doing in Fairview Dublin. It’s over 3 or more years that they’re working there. It was sound before they started and now it’s a disaster. Purposely so I expect. It’s designed to frustrate and push people onto a public transport system that is not fit for the purpose they’re trying to achieve. It all looks great on paper and computer models but to actually put it into a real world situation it doesn’t work, and the Ideological driven Greens don’t care. Nobody voted for the Greens and yet they hold the most important ministerial positions in our government. Am I missing something here. I don’t think so . Elections Now. Eamon Ryan is already talking about going into a coalition with anyone who wins. The sheer neck of this fella. As I said nobody voted for these fanatics.

0:04 What rose coloured glasses does this minister use. Playing with numbers is right, Pat. Get him to stand on a street in Germany,that's where he will see bike lanes used to the full. Here in Dublin, they are almost empty in comparison. Seems Uber benifit the most from cycle lanes. Congestion through the city or wild West M50, those are the choices many of us face to go from A to B in Dublin.

Then how come most of all cycle lanes are rarely used?
@carlos_tighe6 ай бұрын
A couple of reasons 1. Theyre not - they are just incredibly efficient at transporting those who use them so you dont get traffic on them like you do with cars 2. Theyre not fit for use - they are badly planned or unsafe to use 3. Theyre not joined up as part of a network - the road I live on is a cul de sac. Its rarely used. Why - because you cant get on it and it doesnt really go anywhere. For cycle lanes to be useful, like any transport system - it needs to be a decent connected network that people can join and leave easily.

I was home in Dublin recently and really encouraged to see how many cyclists were in the city recently. Makes the city much nicer, if we can back up with more bikes. I saw lots of cyclists in town during the snow even, and the weather is just as bleak in Amsterdam yet they can get out, do themselves and their health a favour and make the city better. If things continue to improve in Dublin I might even consider moving home. Been in London, Paris and Amsterdam, all give a massive priority to their cyclists now and treat drivers like smokers. Its the only way to help our cities survive.

So, rubbish, leaves, debris from vehicles and anything else? Have you just answered your own question? In Dundalk I deliberately avoid half of the terrible half arsed infrastructure the local council pup in and ride on the road along with traffic as another legitimate vehicle with the same rights AND responsibilities. I also avoid riding on pavements which many people do who are afraid of the traffic especially along the bypass. If people aren't using it, perhaps it's not fit for use?

I've no problem with it. Just pay your road tax like everyone else. Plus, you should definitely have some insurance it's dangerous out there
@ronancullen13986 ай бұрын
What a lot of cities across Europe do is they use the road tax income and parking payments from cars to continually fund the bike infrastructure. Bikes remain free and accessible. This in turn has resulted in busier city centres as people feel safer, and a continued growth in earnings for businesses where the tax earnings can be replaced.
@punchy13256 ай бұрын
@ronancullen1398 so pay the tax to use your bike and insurance in case you cause an accident. What's the problem it's the responsible thing to do
@ronancullen13986 ай бұрын
@@punchy1325 It wont encourage the behaviours that we want. The idea is discourage car use and get cyclists out and about. Putting a tax on it I dont believe will help change behaviours. For example I lived in the Netherlands for 3 years, where everyone knows they have a fantastic system of cycling and ban cars from most city centres. A bike costs about 50 euro and thats it. Theres no insurance, no tax, no parking payments. That income is collected from the car drivers in a similar that we tax cigarette smokers or drinkers. These are behaviours we want to discourage. Like Dublin is exceptionally behind on implemeting cycling infrastructure across the EU, and there isnt one city that im aware of that taxes or makes cyclists pay any insurance.
@punchy13256 ай бұрын
@ronancullen1398 that's an awful lot of words to say nothing what happens when no one drives or no carparks to fund this do you think we don't need roads at all that's just delusional thinking goodluck with that
@ronancullen13986 ай бұрын
@punchy1325 No, but we need a lot less cars that's for sure. Look at any large city in Europe, what are they doing? Replacing car infrastructure with public transport and cycling. It's just the way development is going and its inevitable that cars will be lost to our cities within the next decade, and I'm pretty thankful for it.
