I live in the city center and I support this initiative, as the quays are often congested with single-occupancy cars, these people could easily travel into the city by bus/train/tram etc.
@standruck54882 ай бұрын
the reduction in cars in the city would ATTRACT customers, not push them away. Its plain as day, we only have a few loud businesses complaining and they're tied to car parks. I think Eamon is a bit of dope but Im with him here.

Somehow people all over Europe do. You know busses exist right? Blocked everywhere by single occupancy cars?

Public transport ?? plenty of families already do it.

"we do need to build" quite a remark to finish on considering he just spent 10 minutes thrashing DCC for trying to do so. This is why public transport and housing is struggling to be built in ireland as soon as someone stands to lose a cent their up in arms at a cost to the rest of society. Dublin city center business owners are not the only people in dublin city and the priority should be a majority of the populace not the few big wigs who own businesses. Business is obviously important but through changing these things it will make going to the city center a more attractive option for all, as you can trust bike lanes and busses to get you to and from the place. Currently busses are hit or miss, bike lanes are no better, so why would anyone shop in the city center if you can drive to liffey valley without sitting in traffic for an hour. Im no big fan of cycling myself but having witnessed how these systems are used in other cities to reduce traffic and provide a much more punctual and trusty public transport system i don't see how this is going to negatively effect these businesses. Yes in the short term they may have a point but in the long term a better public transport system would increase foot traffic to the city center. People who complain about these kinds of projects are the same idiots who go to europe look in awe at their functioning public transport and wonder why we can't have it without realising the problem is themselves who moan and complain about every small thing that the governement do that negatively effects their lives. When are we going to be rid of this short term thinking regarding public infastructure it isn't about oh this is going to add 5 minutes to my commute time or this is going to cost me some money people should be thinking yes its a hindrance now but in 5-10 years when the full suite of changes is made it will be better for everyone but seemingly a small minority of people can't look further than their nose and their wallets and for far too long government and councils have listened to them. (rant over)

Did Eamon not tell people, that there's over 100 electric Buses sitting in a yard up in Armagh, northern Ireland that has to be written off soon, due to them never been used, and the batteries are fecked and dangerous, and also they have 11 large power generators sitting in Dublin port, that are over 400 tones, brought in from Germany, and now they can't be moved, due to weight restrictions on the bridges on the M50, these government should be in jail, and by the way the country is a disgrace, with the way the rds are, there to narrow with large footpaths and cycle lanes, no need for this in villages and towns in the country side...scam is what this is.

less cars = less congestion Less congestion = more people able to move freely more people = more spending Not rocket science

This has been a success in other coutries, this plan would bring us into line with other countries, people spend money not vehicles.
@mrhoppy_97242 ай бұрын
We shouldn’t be looking at what other countries are doing to make decisions on policy. What works for one country might not work for another. In this case, Dublin’s public transport is not fit for purpose, and a plan like this should not be implemented until it’s vastly improved.

@@mrhoppy_9724 the plan aims to improve the public transport network fewer cars = more reliable bus service and you certainly do look at what other countries have implemented/achieved, transport requirements are very similar across European cities.

It doesn't matter what happens in other countries there bigger than us for one and if the people in them countries want to cycle or take public transport that's there business but in those countries they have better infrastructure then we have you can't even get a bus the majority of time and as far parents wanting to cycle and bring their children with them in all kinds of weather isn't going to happen
@jonesy13282 ай бұрын
@margaretmorrissey4540 short distance journeys are short distance regardless what country. Netherlands has some of the highest levels of cycling and it rains there for sure! Kids and parents won't melt If you want priority given to people in cars just say it..stop coming up with excuses that aren't accurate.

They're supposed to be on the side of the people not businesspeople. We have enough businesspeople in government, just as much as we have enough landlords in government and look how that works... Conor Faughnan needs to cop on a bit, and Pat needs to wake up and realise the public are not a bunch of idiots trying to separate those who went to and didn't go to college.
