the best day ever in croke park. I'll never forget the hill singing and waving flags at the end. A Cork man said "you'd think they won it". It was only a matter or time.

Can Dublin do to Cork, what Cork did to Kerry? Classic line!

Arguably one of the best games to be staged at Croke Park, right up their. I stood on the Hill that day. Unfortunately for Cork (in my view the best footballing side at the time) they confused confidence with arrogance. EG Allen's celebration of his first goal by fist pumping to the Hill was in fact turning up the volume switch of the Hill. They destroyed Dublin in the second half in a manner this video does not show, but their arrogance in the end left Dublin with the sniff of a chance that they took. Cork believed in demanding the replay be in Cork, that it was job done. Their cockiness and arrogance that day was spectacular until the game started. They missed that this arrogance had really got to Dublin and (watch that video here on KZbin) Dublin tore them apart in front of their home fans. Though not in the video, Mullins marched to every Dublin player in turn before the game, and you did not need to hear the words to know what was being said. The game had not started and you knew Dublin were not going to take a beating here. Two great games, a credit to the sport but Cork's arrogance cost them an All-Ireland Final place (one I believe they would have won), but I am not sorry for them as our Dubs did go on to win the title that year.

You stood on the hill? That was an achievement in itself to be actually able to”stand” because the place was an absolute death trap in those days, albeit with a super atmosphere. Only stood on the old hill once as a youngster in the late 80s before it was re developed, and it was a scary experience, and that was in a moderate crowd. Seeing the hoards of fans swaying forward after a big score puts a shiver down my spine, hard to believe that nobody was ever fatally injured. As a matter of curiosity, as you were there that day like u say, why was there an empty pocket of space directly behind the hill 16 goal? Was it some sort of segregation zone?

Corks arrogance is always there downfall. Allen was some clown fistpumping the Hill. Only got us shouting louder. Dubs never fear Cork and usually beat them.

Cork over the years failed so many times to "Seal the deal" in Croke Park ...there huge failling....john Allen kept shooting from 50yards out dropping inches wide for the 4th point for safety..Coaching was so poor then...finding a man in a better position didn't exist then..But still Great football. ..

What a day passes from Mullins to Hazely were sublime and Barney had heaps to do. What about Michael O’Hara it’s all just perfect. Was there that day.

Ohhhhh look at the Hill.....Michaels commentary just added to the excitement when you watch it.I was at the game Dublin gave the ball away for most of the game they were brutal apart from the last few minutes.Hence the explosion of joy when Barney scored that goal. What a time to be alive.I remember telling my dad R.I.P. who also loved the Dubs that the replay was in Cork and he said dont worry a good team can play anywhere and how right he was.Up The Dubs love you and miss you dad xx.

I was also at the game, although I watched it from the Hogan Stand. My father and I collected my grandfather after the game (he was in the Nally Stand) and he told us he would have had a heart attack but for the fact he had tricked himself into believing he had imagined what he had seen. A year or so later, he was given a budgerigar for his birthday, and he named it Rocky - a man over 80-years-of-age naming a pet after a man in his early twenties named Barney - 'If I could've chosen anyone to take that pass from Hazley ... ' I was 11 and it is still the single most memorable sporting moment I have experienced.

For me this and the replay in Cork were the last iconic matches for a Gaelic football, after this the game went from bad to worse. Really modern Gaelic when it’s bad there is nothing worse watching, especially Ulster football which is dour, negative and unbearable with their blanket defences. Amen.
