It's 2023 and I take joy in my 3.5 year-old son Luke Peter saying "that's Luke Kelly", pointing at a poster I have on my wall with the Dubliners! Makes me so happy.

Thanks for your comment Peggy Gordon" is a Canadian folk song that has become popular in many English-speaking countries. As a folk song it was first collected in the 1950s and 1960s in Canada, mainly in Nova Scotia. Versions of this song, in the form of a vaudeville song, were published in New York from 1880. The song tells a story of a man who is madly in love with a woman of this name and how he longs to be with her Hope this is useful to you

Peggy Gordon is actually thought to be from Nova Scotia, rather than Scotland. Similar culture, of course But it could also easily pass for an Irish song. In any case, Luke's voice was a light shining through dark and damp and warming the heart.

well if it was canadian ,it was probably from nova scotia, new scotland and if you listen to the tune it sounds very scottish ,in the way it is structured ,it is a beautiful tune ,and would sound great played by a pipe band

I'm not so sure about Peggy Gordon being Scottish. As far as I remember I read it was Canadian and only became popular this side of the Atlantic during the 1950s/60s folk revival. Could be wrong! Does anyone know of it being popular in Scotland prior to that or mentioned in old song books etc.
