A documentary was made around the recording of this track, showing the band members working on the song in the studio with producer Mack (who had been working with the band since 1980). It shows the lyrics coming together (Taylor and Mercury discussing various ideas which "won't fit" before coming on "one true religion"), and a hilarious guide vocal take where Mercury sings the alternate lyrics "one dump, one turd, two tits, John Deacon!" They were in the studio and they hadn't made up all the words yet... so like Freddie had to kind of BS it when the were practicing... and it sounded a little like this: " da da da da da da dadada. One shirt that fits- John Deacon.... woahwoahwoahwoah yeah!! woah yeah! woah YEAH! one CHICKEN! One Sex position....." in the chorus. The final line is an in-joke from Freddie Mercury, where he shouts "Fried chicken!" 🍳🐔. In the 2011 BBC documentary, Queen: Days of Our Lives, Taylor stated his lyrics were “sort of half nicked off Martin Luther King’s famous speech.”

I love this song by Roger Taylor. Freddie makes it really ring out. All the dreams of the hippies (that would be me and all the guys in this band, for sure) that never came to be simply because instead of taking care of it all on our own, we demanded that politicians do it...bad choice, they created the problems, they like the problems, why would they fix them? The same problems exist today for the same reasons. I hope the next generation will figure out that fixing things begins with each of us and that we must learn to love one another and stop working against each other. Roger nailed this one. Queen remained fairly non-political except for Roger, because the band felt that they should be entertainment to get you away from your problems, not saturate you with them at a concert or on an album. Every so often though, Roger would bang one out that was just too good to leave in the vault.

Hello DubZer0 - This song is so fabulous & watching Queen in the studio is even more magical! It shows their WORK & TALENT with no such thing as autotune!! That’s what I like about music from eras past - you either had the talent or you didn’t. It’s difficult to perform live to promote your album if you couldn’t sing or play instruments!! Queen’s catalog is unique cuz it contains different genres of music - something for everybody! Each member of Queen contributing to make a collective whole!!! 👑 Each member of Queen have had #1 hits!! 🎶🎶🎶

Great, thanks! I LOVE Queen and appreciate your enthusiasm. Checked around a bit and see that you do branch out so it's probably about time to discover the Barefoot Princes, new Queen of Jazz, girl with 1,000 voices...Angelina Jordan. She is now 15 but won Norway's Got Talent at age 8 (covering Billie Holiday, Cher & Ella Fitzgerald). She holds the copyright to her arrangement of Bohemian Rhapsody sung at AGT-C two years ago (age 13), released an original single last month "7th Heaven", and covered Micheal Jackson "Heal the World" live last week. Over 130 covers, 5 originals and a couple written for her!
