Almost all of Brian's soloes are his extensions of what ever the melody is in the vocal lines of a song. He said in an interview that he did not want to sacrifice melody to just show off (rough approximation of his words). So this song is unusual in that way. At later concerts he would do 10-15 minute soloes that were not necesarily related to a song and which gave him the opportunity to do whatever he wanted.

Great reaction! Remember, every comparison you made (except Clapton) came after Queen, so in other words, they sounded like Queen. 😁 I think the echo in the solo is from a unique amp that Deaky designed.

Brian May uses a coin - an British sixpence - which has a serrated edge. It gives the guitar sound that instantly recognisable sound. Apparently his roadie has a bag of the coins because he lost so many!

Opening track from their third album SHEER HEART ATTACK. It’s 100x better on the record, except for seeing the live solo. The guitar solo became Brian’s signature solo for every show even if they didn’t play the whole song, which they rarely did. Having lived through the 80s I can definitively say this sounds nothing like late 80s. It sounds like early 70s.

Other than the epic solo my favourite bits are at 3:17 where Freddie and Roger are in perfect Jimmy/Jenny harmony and 14:19 where you can see the beer on Roger's drums fly up! Brian would change his solos to keep them fresh. When I saw them in 2019 he did a version of Dvorak's New World Symphony that brought tears to my eyes it was so beautiful. Always loved the studio version where Freddie does a great falsetto singing Jenny's lines. Great reaction.

Had to watch again!! Isn’t it amazing? Brian’s all-time fav guitar solo in general is Eric Clapton’s “Key To Love”, from the John Mayall’s Blues Breakers (1966). Brian states “It’s the hottest burning high-passion piece I’ve ever heard in my life still to this day … “
