@@JLOCC23424 This is a very “low church” Protestant view. The idea of “once saved, always saved” is actually a heresy that didn’t even show up until 1,500 years after Christ and His Apostles established the Church. Virtually none of the early church fathers from the apostolic or latter eras ever once taught this heretical doctrine.

I love this scene because Wardaddy was caught trying to live like a human, trying to eat dinner in a civilized, homely way. The others are so animalistic, Crude, and Desensitized they don't understand what it means for him to get away. When the soldiers start harassing him about there past and how they should deserve a lot more respect then the new recruit. Wardaddy tells them to shut up by throwing his knife on the table. He's also saying "How dare you try to remind me of the horrors of war and what we have done. Can't you see I'm trying to be a dignified human even for a little bit?!" it could also be assumed that he's trying to be nice to Norman and trying to help him not turn animalistic like the others have, them not having respect for anything or any morals. I could be wrong but that's my take from this Scene, I love it a lot.

Well yeah but from others pov you would take it bad , I mean imagine you went through hell and put your life into wardaddy hands cause he could manage the crew greatly , you fought hard and saw terrible things but when 2 chicks pops up you're being left on the side , not even an egg as decent meal , and with the 'rookie' that haven't seen the worst, kinda hurts Even tho it's totally understandable that Don tries to disconnect from the war , and I think he's doing it to remind hows life is supposed to be , that's why he chill and let Norman do his stuff with the girl , sadly they got caught and that out of war moment just vanished If u get blamed by Bible you fuck'd up somewhere a lil ^^

You're not wrong. There's a lot of layers to the scene & it's very intense with emotions. So, your analysis is very valid in this case. It's true Wardaddy doesn't want Norman to become some vile monster like his friends because he's a young guy & typically the older bros will move heaven & earth for their younger comrades to survive beyond themselves. He wants Norman to be able to re-enter society on return home, too. When you've been through a lot & sacrficed or just shed away your innocence naturally, you have a greater appreciation for it & a sense of duty to protect the innocence of others. A lot of WW2 guys were pretty good at re-entering society, but there were a lot with troubles, too.

The poster of this video needed to let it go about another 30 seconds. Those two women are visibility upset when Norman and Wardaddy have to leave. If you're a woman in the middle of a war like this, better the devil you do know than the one you don't. They have no idea who is coming next, and how they'll be treated. Norman and Wardaddy definitely offer safety and protection from someone possibly much worse.

To me, it's that the three men are so far gone and are animals compared to the men they used to be. And wardaddy is trying to feel civilized which is why he brought Newman, he isn't corrupted from the war yet. They cut so much from the movie. The reason why war daddy was close to Norman was because Norman reminded him a lot of his brother who war daddy accidentally killed, along with his wife, while drunk driving. This scene is more emotional than presented; Top's war family feels suddenly abandoned because Top maybe just wanted a minute to feel like he had his original family back. And maybe Top himself didn't realize every warrior has two families, those you raise, and those you raise hell with, which is why the rest of his crew felt slighted.

when gordo tells the story about the horses, i can’t help but empathize. i think that they’re all feeling less-than compared to norman in that very scene. after everything they’ve been through together without norman. “after all we been through without him, you can’t even invite us up for an egg?” and i can completely understand. that feeling sucks. we’ve all been there. but you can tell wardaddy is just trying to take norman “under his wing” in a sense. he knows norman’s having a tough time. after all, he was trained to type i’m not sure how many words per minute. not to kill. idk. just spitballing here. every time i watch the movie, i can’t help but feel a little bit upset for the rest of the crew, but understanding at the same time as far as wardaddy and norman go.

The drunk soldiers were about to rape the girls "what's going to happen is going to happen", because they felt like they're deserving it after all the horrors they've been through. I thought Grady was referring to the atrocities of war in general instead of wanting to have sex with the girl. He says "What happened, happened", meaning that War Daddy acting "civilized" doesn't change the fact that they are fucked up people due to all of the terrible things they experienced, and will experience in the future He could have been talking about wanting to rape but what I'm saying makes sense since Gordo was just talking about the hell they all went through

Great scene about the complexity of human interactions. At first you’re mad at them for being so crass and animalistic. Then theres the horse story and you get it. They were never given a chance to process their severe stress. The tragedy is the divide between the hardened who feel wronged others didn’t go through what they did, vs the naive who can never relate to them through no fault of their own, just lucky enough to have ended up in better positions.

"I'm here to enjoy my meal, and as much as you want to destroy it, your not gonna stop me...." We see Top as a character that rarely ever wastes a word, rarely goes against what he commands until something of the war happens. In everything that was done in the house, the least worst thing, I imagine in a civilians life, was talking about what happened during their missions. Not messing with the family, not harrassing Norman, not making the girl cry and licking his breakfast. But it was just remembering, it was going back to those horrors and having to remember it that ruined that moment for him. There's almost an acceptance as their leader, knowing what the horror of this war has done to his men, he rarely stops them unless they take it too far. But its remembering and lingering on that unspeakable past that hurts him, where even as a leader he can't do anything. Its difficult to even call it selfish, because talk about it now, in the midst of war, and morale can fall quick. And yet, that is the sanist thing to do, but you almost can't allow it, because nothing in the war is sane.

I'm a Yankee and I don't like the way Hollywood portraits Georgians in this scene. People from Georgia are the nicest, most humble people you will ever meet. My gal and I love Georgia. Everytime we hit that state line we get some boiled peanuts and stop at a peach stand. Yeah I've met an asshole from Georgia once, told him my ancestor was buried in Andersonville and his brother was buried at Gettysburg. He said I have an ancestor buried in Elmira and his was brother in buried at Gettysburg too. Imagine that😏

So why did Don only take the new kid there and not his tank crew?

I think someone said because don wanted a reprieve from the war and to just feel normal again for a while. Norman was invited because he was still pure and Don may have seen himself before the war robbed him of much of his civility, and he knew the other three were far too rough for a civilized meal. And they acted out because they felt hurt they weren't invited even after all they had been through together before Norman. But they basically proved his point, they were unfit to be there as the war had caused them to lose much of their humanity. And when Don had finally had enough he threw the weapon on the table like James bowie, meaning that if they wanted to challenge him they had better pick up the weapon or shut the hell up. it was incredibly tense and uncomfortable as if the audience was in Norman's shoes. I also liked how the other two men looked up when pena started his story knowing full damn well it would really rub Don the wrong way by bringing up those experiences.

@@cmendr011Why did the story made Don frustrated? I know it's about Red but I don't understand the full story.

@@zhenli541 because he was trying to enjoy a meal. And don loved horses. So pena told the story about a horrific experience they had where they had to endure killing horses and deal with the smell of rotting corpses for days and miles as they traveled in country. It caused him to lose his appetite.

Also, how did his tank crew and that other soldier know exactly where Don and Norman were in the building? I mean, I know Bible saw Don and Norman go in the building, but how did they all know where exactly in the building and what apartment room they would be in?

If you've seen wind river, you'd know this scene is very similar to the mobile home scene, and you know what it could've become. Funny thing is, jon bernthal was in the opposite role there. Great actor, really makes us hate him here.
