I have a 2009 Ducati 848 ( 1 year pwnership), anybody reading this, here are my top 10 things 1. If you don't know how to do your own maintenance, at least basic servicing and customization, then you better have deep pockets. 7500 mile service intervals at $1250 2. Terrible low speed rideability 3. no ABS 4. CHEAP Parts on ebay 5. Great track bike 6. Decent entry bike into Ducati world 7. Torque is amazing 8. Voltage regulator absolutely sucks and likely will be replaced 9. The bearing of the rear wheel cannot be replaced, the entire HUB has to be replaced, which cost $700 new (if you go that route). 10. No ABS FYI, great video and I enjoyed the video

I got mine recently, i have to agree n disagree on some things. i feel like when you want to buy a ducati, its because of the feel of the bike, the sound the look and the torque paying more than a japanese bike is what i expected but its not even much more. In the video he says you can get one around 7k? maybe hella used, i think thats like gsxr price lol i feel like i can sell mine mint for 12k atleast.

Lucid Dan 12K for a 848? Lmao, dude, what market can you sell a 848 at 12k? I can go to the dealership and buy a panigale at that price. Everything I stated is correct....even the maintenance on the 848 sucks compared to the paginale. The only bad thing about the panigale compared to the 848, u literally have to disassemble the bike to do the service intervals...

Orlando Biotechnology maybe if your talking about 7k usd that makes sense but there are some for 11-12k with 17k km stock so if anything I can get this one more with 3k? CAD

I just bought a 2009 1198s $5000 repair bill $2600 = $7600 . I have a huge list of mods done. Someone put a lot of money into it. 176 HP Stock . This is not stock a engine ! Fully tuned . I see 220 hp 200 HP on you tube? I have not had a bike this powerful before. And I had 208 hp on my Aprilia. It faster I'm sure about it. I will put rear seats on it change some other parts like the triple.

I just bought it as a first bike. I have driven a lot of BMW's since I worked at a BMW garage. But not like for hours of course more like test riding for customers and after service. But that was 7 years ago. Have to say that this bike is indeed very aggressive and VERY front heavy, you need some driving skills to master it so yeah, I will need to be careful. I'm gonna install the Toce's Exhaust and the taillight, also a bigger sprocket after getting used to it. It seems to be the best upgrade for this bike The mirrors are indeed very bad. So i'll see what I do about that. Thx for the review.

So I got a 2011 848 EVO recently I have had probably a dozen 600cc Jap sports bikes and man what a different riding experience. The 848 is way faster hands down. The biggest adjustment for me has been the shifting points on the 848 this thing holds first gear forever. I feel like under 40 mph it almost not worth shifting to second gear how was it riding winding roads like that on a bike like this? Where you pretty much just holding second gear?
@kingspencer7
@kingspencer7 6 жыл бұрын
broncos guru I typically hover around second and third. The bike is so torquey though, you can have it in the higher gears and it’ll still pull you out just as quick. The vtwin is an amazing motor.

For those that do not know, one of the bummers of the 848 is the interference engine. The cam and timing are belts (not chains) produced by "Gates" and they are to be replaced every 7500 miles or 3 years. This is the guideline in the manual. This repair costs $1200.00 for me here in Denver. I have never had any problems and also do not know of anyone who has, but if one of the belts were to snap while riding, your engine would be toast. That said, I love my Duc and am willing to pay but since I do not ride crazy, I replace the belts every 5 years.
@LS-oh8kv
@LS-oh8kv 5 жыл бұрын
Belts for 1200?????? I ride a ducati monster currently and I just got my belts replaced for about $250 at the dealer. $80 per belt, 2 belts, plus 1 hour labor the $1200 service is getting valves checked, belts are a separate thing from that.

Bought a used 2008 848 last July, it has 49.000 kilometers on it right now and I've had no problems at all so far. I know a couple of things so I change the engine oils by myself, same goes for the brake and clutch fluids and all that. I do all the rest in Ducati. My only problem with it, is the riding position which I am trying to change to my comfort by trying different seats on it. I bought a few and I'm trying to get it to a position that is comfortable for me. And that's because I am 6'1...
@kingspencer7

Thanos Varnas I’m 6’ tall and I have the sergeant seat on my bike. It helps a lot with your butt, but you still have the forward riding position so your back and wrists are still straining. But I like the seat!
@disruptive4291
@disruptive4291 6 жыл бұрын
problem is, if you are falling on the steering bar, you can't really go fast, you have to be light on your arms, be able to take them off the bars anytime. That's impossible with that stock seat

@@kingspencer7 Me too, I just bought the LED integrated rear light kit from TST and next month I am buying the seat from Sargent with the red welt you can see on their website. Is that the same one you bought? It does look much more comfy. I think how comfy Ferrari seats are and wonder wassup Ducati? Most cheap ass uncomfortable seat possible.

@kingspencer7
@kingspencer7 6 жыл бұрын
charlie ryan no worries my man! So the headlights are LEDs off amazon. And then I have red LEDs in the middle as the “running lights” which are also from amazon. If you have an Instagram I can message you the links! I can also send pictures. You have to modify the cap to the back of the headlight housing. It’s VERY easy. Just cutting a hole to allow the LEDs to vent and not overheat. And the running lights you have to reverse the polarity on one of them. Again this is very simple. I can walk you through everything (with photos) on Instagram or another social media platform. Let me know! Good luck.

All valid points, thanks! You're the first I've seen actually give this info and it's all true (but the every 7,500 miles thing). I have a 2013 Evo and wondered if 2 years later you see any of these around out there on the East coast. I have a red one, live in San Diego, and I see ZERO red 848evo and rarely a white on red. They're all Panigale or those weird Supersports now. That maintenance thing seems like the first 7,500 miles you get that major maintenance (or if you let it set a season, watch those belts!). After that the majors seem to be 12-14K miles. I haven't hit those higher numbers yet but that now seems like the word of mouth. That'd mean I'd do two majors a year and each checkup has said she's good to go. Ha, no it's not a Honda but I should think about getting yet another one I guess!
@kingspencer7
@kingspencer7 3 жыл бұрын
The 7500 mile interval is what Ducati recommends. Not sure why you’re claiming it’s incorrect. Time does also play a factor, like timing belts on cars, where it’s either a mileage or time interval, whichever comes first.

I love this motorbike and I've enjoyed your videos. In fact I own a CBR 600 F (2006 model) and I'm seriously thinking about buy the ducati 848. You have answered many of my personal question on this video. But, I wonder if you miss your honda CBR600F3, and if the new riding position was difficult/exigent to you. On the other hand, how was the new engine power? This change was dificult to you? Please excuse me if some of my questions have been answered in the video but I am from Spain and my english is not good enough. Thanks
@kingspencer7
@kingspencer7 6 жыл бұрын
pureta007 I miss the Honda sometimes but if I had to choose, I’d pick the 848 every time. The riding position is not very different. You still have the forward lean like any sport bike would. The front end is a bit “heavier” feeling when you’re going into turns. But overall, the bike is better in almost every way! I have an aftermarket seat for the bike now and it helps a lot with the comfort level. Any other questions, feel free to ask!

Hey Bud....loving your videos. I'm picking up my 2012 848 EVO in 5 days. Same colour scheme as yours. It's a beautiful machine. I'm based in Sydney Australia, so it'll be interesting to compare maintenance costs etc. Keep updating and posting new vids - love your informative opinions. I haven't ridden a bike for 10 years. The last one I owned was a Suzuki RG-500 2-stroke. That thing was batshit insane to ride. It should have come stock fitted with a racing harness, all it wanted to do was throw me off the back and put the front wheel up. So even though I've never ridden a Ducati, or a bike with the EVO's engine capacity, I'm still unsure what to expect. I know I can expect a lot of fun! But your videos are really helping me to understand it better.l

Spencer King thanks man! I’ve seen this bike. It’s in mint showroom condition and kept under a cover. I, the same as you searched my country for one specific make/model/colour...uncanny. No scratches. Not even so much as dust on it. It’s been kept well and has only done 3060km, around 1900m for you guys. I don’t plan it as a daily rider, obviously. It’s a weekend toy. And absolutely I will take it slow. I know this Ducati will teach me a lot! I also live in a national park, the Royal National Park in Sydney. Lots of fun and usually unoccupied roads. I simply CANNOT WAIT!

@kingspencer7
@kingspencer7 6 жыл бұрын
Rens there is nothing better than the sound of a v twin. Especially with the termi exhaust on it. The biggest difference I noticed was the torque difference. But switching from the CBR to a 848 was a big change as well. It was almost like I had to learn how to ride all over again. The 848 is a very front heavy bike. It was very daunting at first trying to take a turn with the bike because it’s a totally different style than what I was use to. It’s hard to explain but it’s just very different! Other than the torque and weight distribution, it’s just another bike!

Hey man, I just upgraded from a Ninja 300 to an 848 two months ago. Had the 300 for just over a year, 9k miles done. I was super scared about jumping on the 848, thinking it'd be too much, but it's been amazing. The power is obvious but it's extremely manageable and even with an open throttle it hasn't tried to wheely me (yet). The sound is fantastic as well! It's a totally different bike but you'll get used to it quickly enough.

What’s up man ! Just got yourself a new sub! Question I’m looking to get a new bike I haven’t rode in about 4 years but I’ve always Loved Ducati especially the 848. It’s a 2011 with about 7k miles supposedly well maintained. It’s going for 6500 you think it’s worth it ?

Mr. H thanks for the sub! The 848 is an awesome bike. Are you talking about 7k miles or kilometers? Just keep in mind that bike is due for hefty maintenance at 7500 miles! Got mine done last year and it was around $1200 USD. It’s in my season 2 playlist, I’ll post a link in the following comment. Other than the maintenance, I’d say it’s a descent price, but you can beat the seller down given that hefty price tag at the dealer in the next 500 miles! It might be why he’s selling it! Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions!!

There is a descent aftermarket following for these bikes as well, so parts are easy to get ahold of. Hey bud, I got a 848 EVO Corse and would like to make those front turn signals and rear view mirror... where did you got yours?
@kingspencer7
@kingspencer7 6 жыл бұрын
Juan Carlos Contin they were both purchased off amazon. However, the front turn signals are no longer available. They still have the mirror and adapter. The mirror is made by CRG.

Hey man, Im 17 and I will turn 18 soon and I will be able to ride a motorcycle too. For the first year Il covered with my mothers 350 yamaha tt but after that I would also like to buy myself a bigger bike. Im just trying to get informations at the moment and so would you say that the 848 is a good bike to ride on after one year of experience or is it not made for reasonably new riders? Maybe you can help me out.

Hey man, your Duc is absolutely stellar. Very nicely modded. I'm in the market for an EVO at the moment as well. That being said, I've a few questions. How fast does it heat up? I've driven a Yamaha R1 and after 20 minutes on that thing you will have testicular radiation. Also, how is the suspension dampening? Is it stiff? I heard from Bike World's video that new shocks would be a proper investment.
@kingspencer7
@kingspencer7 4 жыл бұрын
Randy Hoffmann if you are moving, you really don’t notice the heat soak. The problem is when you stop. That takes about 60 seconds (depending on weather) until it’ll start to heat up (once at operating temp obviously). Traffic is miserable and will cook you. I don’t mind the suspension, but I don’t track my bike. If I did, I would invest in better shocks. But for the street, it’s fine (in my opinion).

Does any one have 2011 848, what would you choose 2010 Yamaha R1 14k or 3011 848 evo with 24 k?
@kingspencer7
@kingspencer7 6 жыл бұрын
nayan ambatkar those are extremely different bikes. The r1 is going to be faster of course. But the evo has better styling (in my opinion). The evo maintenance will be more expensive than the Yamaha. If you can, I’d take them both for a test drive and decide for yourself!

What was scary ? maybe he is sick, or has a call to pick? So many guys complain about drivers do what they normally do, grow up man, each time ppls get on the bike they are like princesses, don't u see me ? How dare you brake in my face? Seriously! I am both motorcyclist and driver and I am stunned when I see motorcyclists complaining like little spoiled girls about drivers doing normal stuff... Each time they start to tell stories it's like a gossip full girls night... WTF that's how I ended up hanging with Harley boys even if I have a Ducati, they have balls and never blaim others for their mistakes or lack of awareness, the sportbike community sucks bad, only spoiled kinds, drama queens and irresponsible ppls... "Guys guys, you know what happened today?, A cager used the brake in front of me, used his turn signal and then turned right into a gas station, i had to brake so hard i almost hit him, - Omg omg what a stupid cager, did u go to him to argue with him or smash his mirror? - No no, i went on cause I am the better person, but remember, one of this days a car may do this unusual thing they do : brake! and it may be your last day on earth"
