There are motorcycles and there is Ducati. There is a very good reason that Ducati is the largest Italian motorcycle manufacturer to date. Ducati grew from a small company in Bologna Italy to a powerhouse creating barely road-legal motorcycles like the Ducati Panigale V4 R and Desmocedicci. In the world of racing, Ducati has been a key contender in MotoGP, WSBK, the AMA, and even at the Isle of Man TT. Setting Ducati’s apart from the likes of Yamaha, Suzuki, and BMW to name a few there are staple bike features unique to the Italian stallions. Ducati bikes have some of the best styling cues on anything with two wheels, you then pair that to the Ducati L-twin engine or the V4 motor now used in production bikes to get some of the best sounding engines … not to forget the Ducati dry clutch and single-sided swingarm that really make their bikes stand out. But Ducati did not start out by making motorcycles, in fact the first product to bear the Ducati name did not even have an engine. This is everything you need to know to get Up To Speed on Ducati and Ducati motorcycles.
Up to Speed is a weekly automotive history show about the best cars, brands, designers, drivers and influencers ever. Host James Pumphrey covers everything from the Toyota Supra to the Chevy El Camino, The VW GTI to the Subaru WRX. The origins of every car will be uncovered to get you Up to Speed..
Some of our best videos ever are coming out soon, stay tuned so you won't miss a thing!

Bologna is a city with a culture of resistance. Acts of defiance like that of the Ducati brothers were just some of the many that surrounded this area. It's great to see my city acknowledged on such a big platform. Thank you Donut! I can’t speak on modern Ducati’s, but I owned a 999s and a 1098s for years when they came out. I never had any reliability issues with them and they weren’t garage queens. Again, that’s my experience with those two models...to blanket layer the entire company as unreliable is false.

well except for that fact that they didn't go over 185-190km/h (115mph), that sounds awesome. Though Ducati is known for unstable, poorly calibrated gauges, so it could have shown 200... @VikingRul3s
@VikingRul3s 4 жыл бұрын
@Linda Reyes And you're free to do so, i expect your a ducati fan then. Ducatis aren't very fast on the road, they got great acceleration and their "balance point" makes them great in the turns, that all translates into being great on the track, not on the road, as i experienced myself, a 600cc 4-cyl racer can take most ducaties on the road even 1000cc's
@BigUriel
@BigUriel 4 жыл бұрын
@@VikingRul3s The earliest original Monster 900 had around 80hp which is more than enough to break 200Km/h. Obviously Monsters are not sports bikes designed to go as fast as possible. Ducati makes different bikes for that.
@VikingRul3s
@VikingRul3s 4 жыл бұрын
@@BigUriel Obviously you aren't a bike man, so please feel free to refrain from commenting on things you know jack about... Ducati makes V2 enignes and while they do (on paper, not in reality, italien "spec" when it's best) make some hp, it's at a fairly low rpm and being a V2 they simply can't produce the high rev range a 4cyl inline engine can. That combined with a factory tune specificaly made to enhance the low rpm range all equals out to slow bikes. Now that we got some of the basics all real bike guys know, let's get on with it: No monsters didn't go over 200, never have and only will with SS class tuning, not something 99,9% of privately owned Ducatis will ever see. It's not just monster i've left in the dust, they where the easy ones. Yes they made faster models, like my mates 1000cc SuperSport from the same periode, had massive acceleration, but i would just do my best to slipstream him and start gaining significantly on him from 150-160 km/t, overtaking at around 200-210 However a 4cyl inline from the same periode produced 120+bhp at 13.000+ rpms, that translates into massive top speed, but a fairly low performance in the low rpm range. A ducati (any V2) is super nice to ride on everyday basis! Hell, i even got one, tho a Suzuki, but it's not a question if they suck for road racing, they do, got real racers from that ;) Even the mighty Aprilia RSV only really shines on a track, simply because they's what they are made for

After 21 years changing all japan bikes have them all and one ktm lc4 when I was younger first time in my life after trying some Italian bikes like F4 Avgusta 2015 and I like it... I decided to try Panigale V4S 2020 o Boy o Boy, it was beautiful BEAST and after some tests I do , I jsut order my first Ducati in my life and now I’m in Love... It is damn really good masterpiece and that power just amazing and first of all I like they took almost everything from R model and put on S and now Im a happy kid with a new toy....... ❤️❤️❤️

@FUNKOfilms true. Actually it would be cool if they just made a special out of it. Like a 4 part series of each one. Their personal stories and also how they blended. The interesting part is they could do this for these companies in both motorcycles and automobiles... for the most part.

I remember wanting - SO BADLY - to run a dry clutch/open primary on my scratch-built Harley (S&S stroker engine). I just saw too many belt alignment issues, plus the cost, and decided to bag the whole idea. I loved the look and sound though. Harleys are especially cool with them as you have a wide, blower style belt whizzing by your left pants leg.
