Great video! Exactly what I needed. Doing the dreaded fuel pump and filter R&R. Highly suggest to others if they're doing the fuel pump/filter job to perhaps order a replacement air filter (K&N or whatever) so it can be replaced during this process as well. After you pull the tank assy off one time, you can easily do this process again and again in no time at all. Thanks again!

Also a good time to check valves, vertical cylinder is now exposed enough to check tolerances.

fuel pump you will not need to take off the tank, fuel pump is towards the rear ( see other comments) my issue ending up leaking gas from the sending unit ( fuel level indicator )

Thanks for taking the time and trouble to post this great video. You mention at the beginning that you were investigating a small fuel leak. My bike has been stood for a few months and developed a leak too (it's now empty); I can't therefore ride it to a repairer! Before I start the dismantling process, do you have any valuable advice as to where to start looking for potential leaks? It would be helpful to know which area to concentrate on. Thanks in anticipation.

Hey, this is a great video, thanks for the detail. Its going to make it much easier to get the tank off seeing someone do it. You mentioned you had a fuel leak, but I cant find the video of you fixing it. Did you make one? Did you find the leak? I've got a leak too that needs investigating and was hoping to draw on your experience. Any tips?

I had fuel leaking out of the fuel sensor gasket, which is on the underside of the tank, no I did not make a video of that. Just make sure all fuel lines and hangers are detach, getting the tank piece back on was a pain, not remembering how but i had to fight with it a little

Hello, thank you for the great video. Have you replaced 0-ring between fuel pump & the tank? If so, what sealant (if any) did u use on the o-ring when putting back together?
@lanctermann7261

Either Dow-Corning DC 55 , or plain petroleum jelly. We use it on aircraft fuel tank o-rings.

Great video - it's a strange bike to work on. Can you remove the fuel pump assembly from the tank without removing the entire tank off the frame? Thanks.
@half-away
@half-away 7 жыл бұрын
yes, you can remove the fuel pump without removing the tank, its towards the rear of tank@ 5:45 in my video you can see where its at, (the tank is partly lifted so it would be in front of that cross bar) /should have plenty of space to take it out --- my issue was a leaking sending unit for the fuel gauge that sits right above the motor --

Informative video! I am having trouble with the fuel level sensor on my MTS 1000ds. I let my bike sit for a year with petrol (gas) in the tank (dumb, I know). I then used a rubber hose inserted into the tank to syphon off the petrol in order to empty it. When I brought the bike back in to use a few weeks ago I refilled the tank but the petrol gauge / indicator on the dash indicates that the tank is empty. Occassionally / intermittently it will show a correct level but then shortly agfterwards goes back to showing an empty tank again. Could I have damaged the petrol level sensor when I put the rubber syphon tube in the tank previously? Is it necessary to remove the tank to replace the petrol level sensor or can this be done with the tank remaining in situ?
@half-away
@half-away 7 жыл бұрын
yes / you have to remove the tank to remove the fuel sensor ( right above the center of your engine - mine was leaking (bad gasket) the fuel indicator is weird to begin with, if your on the throttle it can be showing almost empty when you have a 1/2 tank -- it goes by distance+ how much you are on the throttle + it is inaccurate due to the shape of the tank, so yo probably do not have an issue with your sensor just get to know your MPG and watch the odometer

Replace the sensor, which is accessed on the bottom of the removed tank. They are a frequent point of failure.

Hi great help, althogh I'm a bit stuck putting tank back. Do you put rear back first or the front in 1st. When I put front in I can not get rear to drop in. I then put rear in 1st & then can not get tank front pins to line up into rubber grommets..help thank you
@half-away
@half-away 6 жыл бұрын
from what i remember (if your bike is on the kick stand it is leaning) -keep tank level with the bike front first, you should be able to push forward on the tank front grommets should have enough squish-ability where there is enough space to drop down in the rear

I just bought a 2006 Multi 620 from a guy who had it in storage for about 2 years. After riding it for about 20 minutes it bogged down and stalled. Twice. Im thinking I need to put a new fuel filter. Should this process be about the same for the 1000 and 620?
@half-away
@half-away 7 жыл бұрын
Im guessing ....yes, they share same plastics so fuel system parts would be located in same spots / you wouldnt have to remove all this / fuel filter is towards the rear of tank@ 5:45 in my video you can see where its at, (the tank is partly lifted so it would be in front of that cross bar)----my issue was a leaking sending unit for the fuel gauge that sits right above the motor --

I would say yes, take time to drain/siphon. You are removing fuel lines, less mess and easier to take tank off

Hey, im in the process of removing the tank. Only problem is my tank is half full of gas. What method did you use to drain your gas?
@half-away
@half-away 6 жыл бұрын
best bet is just to siphon with a small hose / that will get most of it
@jefft137
@jefft137 6 жыл бұрын
You can pull your fuel hose on the left side of the fuel flange which is the hose labeled "in" and place the end into a long funnel into a 5 gallon gas can. Then pull your fuel pump relay which is just behind your battery, and pull the relay plug out from the rubber sleeve. Prepare a short jumper wire with a spade male terminal on each end and insert one end into each of the female ends that are stacked on top of each other. Not the female ends that are side by side. If you left your battery in the bike (which you can do when you remove the tank), your bike fuel pump will come on and your tank will empty through the disconnected hose into your gas can. The "in" hose usually returns fuel to the tank, but now is flowing into your funnel. It will empty your tank in no time at all.
