Thanks for the help. Damn, I only broke 2 tabs on the wheel well cover / splash shield. :( Had to change my front windscreen because at a track day at California Speedway, the vibrating front break resevoir at 160mph on the front banking was splattering brake fluid on the inside of the windwheld and spotted it all up. Make sure you brake fluid resevoier cap is screwed down tight and sealed.

Are they maybe at risk of getting cooked if not as far away as possible and attached to the fairing? They are in the same areas as they were, just free ballin' now. Still riding the 1299 ? 6 trackdays later (a few run offs into dirt) 15K Miles & no crashes !! you can do it without taking off the front assembly :)

So there is only 2 that is especially tricky, rest is simple. For the two tricky ones at the bottom I used extreme caution when unscrewing it making sure not to dislodge the rubber grommet on the other side. After the screw comes out if you move the windscrew it will dislodge it as well so I used a paperclip folded it 90 degrees and stuck it through the hole to make sure it doesn't drop into the console. So yes, you are correct, you need to glue the two grommet in place in order to install the shield, which is acceptable because it would make it simpler for next time when switching shields, each shield would have 2 grommets glued so it doesnt pop out.

Even if you do this you will probably fail! Yes, you can get it off and glue the new well clips to the back but when you try and slide over the frame (magnesium rail or whatever it's called) the rubber well clips will hit and come off. I used a shit load of super glue and let sit for a long time and every time I went to install one would pop loose. Just save your time and do it the right way.

Moto Dutchman he mentions some faff... But not what it was until pressed in the comments. I had to glue the nuts on the back, and wriggle the screen back in after watching that video. (didn't have all the tools at the time to take the fairings off) fortunately managed to retrieve them from the nose as they didn't fall far. If he'd been up front about it I'd have waited until I had the right gear!
