Thanks Ken. Great to know and see you take care with your bike; like you said, no one will take care of it like you. For some mechanics doing it day in day out it just becomes another job and complacent can set it. I’m hopefully going to be getting a v2 later in the year.

Great video man!! You covered every little detail perfectly!! I was a bit hesitant doing it myself on this bike since the oil filter is completely different but now I am 100% certain that its simple to do! Thanks for the heads up on how to remove the filter cover, as I am sure I would have been prying it and what not to get the damn thing off...LOL.

Thank you very much for this video! I like the sentence that it is better to change the oil by yourself because no one cares more about the bike than the owner. And I fully agree! perhaps I will make also a video for cleaning the oil intake mesh filter. I believe it was never cleaned by the official ducati workshop...

picked up a set of m8 screws and this helped a ton with changing the oil! for the record the torque specs are below. Thanks man * Oil drain bolt: 13 N.m (9.6 ft.lbs) * Oil filter cover bolts; 13 N.m (9.6 ft.lbs)

Keep in mind the cost of the OBD scanner that works for ducati vs having a dealer clear the code. Some do it for free..depends what you got

Just took mine to the dealership, did oil change and new tires, it was a BMW dealership and tried to ride a couple hours after I picked it up, gave me a engine code and was a lil bit of smoke, smelled like burnt oil, next day the light it’s gone, it still smells a lil bit like burnt oil which I’m hoping it’s just from spills, anybody has an idea?

Ken can I ask - have you ever removed the clutch engine casing?? I want to swap my current 899 over to a nice new shiney one. Once I’ve drained the oil I’m presuming I can go ahead and remove the cover ?? Or do I have to drain the clutch aswell??

Hi you said the bolts we’re 8 mm which bolt down the oil filter then you said you need a m8 bolt to get the oil filter out isn’t that the same as the 8mm. I thought they were 6mm or is that just for the 1299
@motoken
@motoken 6 жыл бұрын
the bolt securing the filter cover is 8mm...I used a M8 type bolt to screw into the filter cover (only) the filter cover has threads for an m8 bolt. the 8mm bolt does not touch those threads...it threads deeper into the engine casing...hope that makes sense.
@brettnixon8344
@brettnixon8344 6 жыл бұрын
Ken Moto thanks so what you are saying is that the 8mm bolt is only threaded half way so bolt slides through hole
@motoken
@motoken 6 жыл бұрын
yes, its kinda confusing to explain but yeah you get it...the 8mm stock bolt goes straight through the filter cover and threads on the engine casing..holding the filter cover in place....the filter cover itself has threads too...fitting a much bigger diameter screw..(the m8 bolt) its means so that you can thread an m8 bolt in and use the bolt as leverage to pull the filter cover off..

As your bike is only on the rear stand, it is not perfectly levelled to check the oil level on the side glass. I did the same mistake btw
@motoken
@motoken 6 жыл бұрын
Wrong, but thanks for the concern.
@motoken
@motoken 6 жыл бұрын
I'll humor you, after doing this oil change I ride the bike (as you should) to test things out. I sit on the bike, stand it up and have somebody check the level. its the same level as I have after the oil change. so yes this is the correct reading. either you can't tell what upright is or your whole driveway is tilted.
@Pierrot0044
@Pierrot0044 6 жыл бұрын
I can see the level moving when I put the front stand on...
@motoken
@motoken 6 жыл бұрын
Well I would suspect your driveway isn't leveled or your stands are crooked...that's not a very safe stand if the bike is shaking and moving the level. best to get that checked.
@KeyserSoze5421
@KeyserSoze5421 5 жыл бұрын
Ken - are you implying that your driveway isn’t perfectly flat and with the bike on the rear stand the bike is perfectly level?

You can always tell when someone's not a mechanic. M 8? Do you know what the "m" stands for. Most mechanics would call it a 8 milimeter bolt or 6 millimeter bolt. Oh, by the way that "thing" you were putting back on with the o rings is called cover or cap.

M8 is the metric thread diameter number brudda...not the head size...
