It is a shame for the waterfowl lost in South Louisiana, but a couple points needs to be addressed- 1) Rice farming is across other areas of Louisiana, and has seen also diminished waterfowl numbers wintering in the state, 2) Crawfish farming isn’t something you see above I-10 in the winter months on rice farms, especially in East Central/NorthEast Louisiana. I know rice farmers in South Louisiana who plant rice AND have crawfish operations after the 1st harvest. 2nd crop is not harvested, allowing crawfish to feed on the food source. To point as well, specks didn’t show up in large numbers in Louisiana until the early 60’s, as their numbers increased they migrated Eastward with the rice crop. At that time, an estimated 100,000 white fronts wintered in the Central Flyway. NOW, specks number above 700K in the Central and Mississippi Flyways, but less and less specks are wintering in South Texas and South Louisiana (just like the snows/blues/Ross geese).

I’m not making any accusations or assumptions but Ol’ Jesse seems like he might know his way around a sack…if you know what I mean.
