I always take mine to the laundette, you need to use their huge tumble dryers, and even then it's still damp. When I drive home I need to have all the windows down because it stinks. Then I leave it on an airer in the garden and finish it off indoors hanging over my ironing board. It can take a good five days to make sure it's completely dry, keep moving it and shaking the feathers inside.

Omg that happen to me too!! I wash it and dried it. I thought it was dried but the next day it smelled horrible plus I spotted mold 😣😓😓. The mold wasn’t that bad but it was horrible seeing it! What I did is got some gloves I took the mold off with disinfecting solution. Then I wash duvet again. 2 times 😓😓 and 3rd time just with water only. On the 3rd time I was amazed no smell yay!! Then the key is drying because if you don’t do it right it’s going to smell and even worse have mold. Ok so drying it Took foreverrrrrrr but be patient. The first cycle do it high then low . In between take it take it out shake it and put but it back. It took about 2 hours on the low heat 😢. The worse thing is it’s still not dried with those 2 hours so be alert!!!!! Ok so then u take it out cuz at this point is hot. U lay it dry outside or on a clean sofa. For 1/2 a day then check it. Mine is was still wet 😪. So then put it back on the dryer on low setting because if u put it on high ur gonna burn it!

Hey... my family member got ill recently n decided to wrap up in the king size down duvet like a sausage roll!... I know....NIGHTMARE but too late as it stunk already !! All I was thinking... how the hell am I gonna wash it ?.. so I watched yr video. and thought Woah!...No way am I gonna wash it.. I'll use dettol spray and surface clean it... but it's niggling away at me..4 days . that i really need to get it washed.. So thanks for yr info... I was already cutting my losses..😔.coz as u know.. these DUVET's ain't cheap! HOWEVER..... I clicked on another video (Down experts) and she said you CAN wash your DUVET!!!🤔 THE TRICK IS... to wash it in a machine...that's fine ( preferably one which has larger capacity to give it space to wash properly... then IMMEDIATELY put it in the DRYER!!! DO NOT...SHE EMPHASISES .. DO NOT HANG ON YOUR DUVET ON A WASHING LINE TO DRY!!! The duck feathers basically can clump together during wash and it needs constant moving and airing mechanism to dry between the feathers inside.. that's what the trick is to get it BACK TO it's original fluffy clean version... even the drying has to be repetitive... May be up to 4 cycles just to be sure it's dry inside thoroughly...it's the moisture that creates mildew and ruins the duvet because it's moist inside & can become fungal! Phewee😤! So that explains the STINKY SMELL you experienced.... You can air it after the DRYER process, but keeping it fluffed and not shaking the duvet... I guess shaking it shifts everything to one end...and can cause it to sneakily clump inside.... So.....guys...YOU CAN wash the duvet...hence the 40'c washing instruction...but it's not as straight forward as regular clothes and duvets.... My personsl advice...do it at a Laundrette in one of those big ass industrial machines .... and even though that may cost you... it'll be cheaper than throwing a good duvet away and buying a new one...... I'm gonna try it when I can yank it away from the culprit who decided to ruin it in the first place.... Check this link out (Duck DOWN experts) kzbin.info/www/bejne/nZXJlomfr5yjrNE Have a good day!

Thankyou for this! I'm currently experiencing exactly what the guy in this video is lol. My dads cat cut its paw and got blood all over his duvet! So I had to wash it! Going to follow Ur advice and just go to laundromat, my washer and dryer not big enough! Thanks for posting 🙂

Thank you for this information. I am going to spot clean it. I don't want to take a chance at what the cost of this duvet was. I intend to put it into a protective waterproof cover.

You are not supposed to hang wet duvet on the line to dry. You have to dry them in a dryer otherwise they wet down will get mold and stink.

Is it smell ‘ducky’ after washing? I bought one from ikea, smell terrible. The customer service said the smell due to wet. Thanks

I washed mine, then dried it in the dryer, then laid it across the sofa for a few days. However, before I knew to do this, I dried it then folded it and rode around with it in my car for a few hours. When I unfolded it, it smelled like a dead animal!!

You just need to rewash it then put it in the dryer never Sun dry them.
@user-nm7ju5ph6uАй бұрын
You either take it to a professional or take all the feathers out, wash the cover and stuff it back.

Where did you get the duvet from? This is helpful

I just checked with my local dry cleaner and they wanted $42 and for me to wait about a week to get it back. I think if I went to my local Launderette and had to keep plugging quarters into a dryer for hours at a time it would end up costing me more than $42 not counting the cost of my time obviously. I think I’m gonna go back to the dry cleaner and say OK here’s my money and my duvet see you next week.

They are natural oils on the feathers, don't dry clean, normal wash and dry, old laundress told me
@scottrich9763 жыл бұрын
A very large tumble drier will help to dry it properly. You have to do it fast and never use Bio washing liquid.

never sun dry them. Use tennis balls in your dryer and not hot either.
@markcumbriauk Жыл бұрын
these need to go into a clothes dryer to re fluff the feathers and dry them all out.
