The Duck Tape Super Match Fire Starter is an idea that I came up with in an attempt to make Duck tape easier to light with a ferro rod. Using fairly cheap and common materials, it will burn for 3-5 minutes, definitely long enough and hot enough to get even marginal materials lit.

This gives me some ideas. Kind of interesting to see a firestarter that increases in intensity a bit as it burns rather than decreasing. That's probably a useful feature. Thanks.

My go to fire starter is a cotton ball 1/2 way dipped in wax and vaseline rubbed into the non-waxed end. Theses burn so well and long that I can start a charcoal chimney with 2-3 balls in the place of crumpled paper. Just one will start a fire using wood (typical camp fire). Each cotton ball will burn very strong for about 10 minutes before going out. I’ve been collecting leftover candle wax from my wife’s glass jar candles when they finally don’t have enough wax to support the wick burning. These work great and are sone of the best smelling firestarters you’ll find. I have made super matches by wrapping the cotton ball around several wooden matches and dipping in wax. They work but probably aren’t as water resistant as the match you made or just the cotton ball wax/Vaseline mix. But when dry, they are fast & easy to use.

I never carry duct tape in the roll configuration. I’m lazy, so I have to think more. From a flat side of a plastic milk carton, cut a strip about a half inch wider than the tape, and 4”-6” long. Now get several more of these strips. Put 10’ or more of the tape around a strip lengthways. Fold over the very end of the tape so it’s easy toremove for use. Thinner such packs are flexible, and can be stored in many locations. More tape makes a thicker roll that is less flexible, but more tape. They store easily, but not as easy as a thin one. Carry them dispersed among your gear. Courtesy of Half Vast Flying

@@WayPointSurvivalany time. I live out in the boons in the middle of nowhere all my life. It's always good to know multiple ways to do 1 thing because depending on what's going on and where you're at you may not be able to do something one way. So another way is better. Fire, shelter, and food/water gathering is always #1 thing you should learn how to do multiple different ways.

'Duct' tape...not 'duck' tape
@WayPointSurvival
@WayPointSurvival 4 жыл бұрын
Actually, both words are used to describe what I used for the Super match. However in general, I view 'Duct' tape as silver and metallic and used for metal and flexible duct work for HVAC applications, duck tape is the stuff I was using and won't stay on duct work long term. I was consciously trying to designate between the two with the naming of the video. Here is a link: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duct_tape "Duck tape" is recorded in the Oxford English Dictionary as having been in use since 1899[2]; "duct tape" (described as "perhaps an alteration of earlier duck tape") since 1965[3].
