A very excellent conclusion. For years, I've seen people trying to make it seem like Diesel was misguided or quite recently, paint Duck black. But the fact that both were in the wrong shows how little people actually see the situation. I myself have looked deep into the Duck & Diesel Trilogy for a good long while and never noticed both were in the wrong until now. Got you to thank for that, my dear. And you're right, the fact that Duck was willing to move past it and try to fix things shows his maturity. Like, while his suspicions of Diesel may have been questionable, it still made sense in a way. I mean, wouldn't you feel suspicious if someone greeted you in an almost suspicious voice or complimented about your fame? Also, the fact that Diesel sunk deeper into the hole shows his immaturity and that he has more to learn. Which kinda echoes the pair because Duck is older while Diesel is younger. And most of the time, the younger one is in the wrong, and sometimes they do sink lower.

Galloping Sausage, Rusty Red Scrap Iron, and Old Square Wheels. Also in the books, the Fat Controller had an additional line. Stating after Duck left, Diesel tried to spread lies about Henry.

A lot of people claim that Duck played a trick on Diesel to get his reputation tarnished and like - no? Diesel claimed he knew everything and was revolutionary, so Duck let him "know everything" for a day. People always say "DUCK SHOULD'VE TOLD DIESEL THAT THE TRUCKS HE WAS TRYING TO PULL WEREN'T MEANT TO BE TOUCHED!!" but like if Diesel knew everything, like he explicitly said he did, then he would've known better than to take old trucks that haven't been used in god knows how long

You make a lot of valid points here. Both Duck and Diesel were in the wrong for what they did to each other- although Diesel took it to the next level by getting Duck sent away. At some point in time, I'd like to make an episode in my crappy Thomas series covering this topic of Duck and Diesel, and by having them realize that they were both in the wrong for what they did to each other all those years ago.

I think Diesel saying “We diesels don’t need to learn, we know everything. We are revolutionary!” triggers Duck because he’s aware that steam engines are getting scrapped due to the diesels taking over. He knows that the Duke GWR class was scrapped.

I honestly really like Duck. While yes, he could have offered Diesel help shunting, Diesel probably wouldn't have taken the advice. And Duck was disgusted by the truck's behavior towards Diesel, even though Diesel never asked for Duck's help with them. He tried to move on, and Diesel didn't.

Diesel was the villain: Duck may have been proud of his GWR heritage, but that doesn’t mean that he’s being arrogant. He surely had good instincts to be doubtful on Diesel with oily and manipulative personality, boasting how he should know what to do right and prove his revolution. Duck asked him to collect his trucks for him to prove it, but instead Diesel shows off and ends up wrecking some rotten old ones with stiff brakes. Afterwards, Duck notes that he could’ve asked him if he wanted that lot and how he tried to prove his revolution.

Diesel was the villain 1. Duck was treated badly by Gordon, Henry and James in Percy takes charge when Duck arrived on the island. Duck was trying to do his work in the yards and the big engines went passed him and blew steam at him. Duck and Percy decide to prevent the engines from blocking the sheds. The audience took a dislike to Duck for his behaviour to Gordon, Henry and James, but when Diesel came to the island and Duck was skeptical of Diesel and played a trick on him, they were angry at Duck for starting it all with Diesel. Unfortunately the audience can’t have it both cases. 2. The Duck and Diesel trilogy definitely showed Gordon, Henry and James to be hypocritical as well as Duck. They boast all the time about their heritage and name call other engines. But all of the three engines were happy to have a row at Duck for boasting about his Great Western heritage and “a false accusation” of name calling. 3. This is something weather it was an error on the tv screen or it actually was supposed to happen. Diesel had a really oily voice which sounded shifty and Duck was smiling until Diesel praised the three big engines and then started to look cross. But Duck could see Diesel had a shifty tone of voice and he was too nice too quickly which gave Duck the impression he had something to hide. It also could be perhaps there were diesel engines arriving to British railways and will take over steam engines. Duck is also aware of Gordon, Henry and James, who bullied Duck on his first day, so didn’t want Diesel to be caught up in the big engines. Duck could’ve not predicted Diesel too quickly and could’ve been light and on his guard with Diesel when he first met him. 4. Duck was angry with Diesel when Diesel refers Sir Topham Hatt as “Your Worthy Fat”. Duck could’ve not been too sharp with Diesel. The audience question why Duck insinuated Diesel should refer him as Sir Topham Hat, when the other engines don’t call him it, weather it is due to Diesel as not a respected engine or diesels in general can’t use the name. Duck did antagonist Diesel and could’ve been softer. Back in the Thomas classic tv series all the time ago, it was simply not respected to use the pacific title of Sir Topham Hat, where the engines wouldn’t say it to his face, but Duck would be shocked if any engine did it, as he wouldn’t, even when Sir Topham Hat is not present in the moment in time, but he felt it was an appropriate time to pull Diesel up on it, as those two engines were in private. 5. Diesel boasted he didn’t need to learn. The issue with Duck is he should’ve told Diesel he did need to learn. But if Duck tried to attempt to teach Diesel, Diesel would have reacted, as Duck could see it would turn out, so left him to his own device. Diesel got angry at Duck for not teaching him when he told Duck he didn’t need to learn and knew everything. For Diesel to have a go at Duck for making the trucks laugh at him, Diesel can’t blame him, when he told Duck not to show him. Duck and the trucks laughed at his own dilemma which he caused by boasting about his heritage. 6. Duck was a boastful engine. However he demonstrated he could do the work alone and worked really hard in the yards. He shouldn’t really boast to the other engines, but really, all the claims he can do has been demonstrated. Diesel claimed to be revolutionary, but when the chance came, it turned out it was better said than done. 7. Although Duck did laugh with the trucks at Diesel’s mistake. He knew the trucks were overstepping the mark. Duck felt it was alright to have a slight joke about it as he did deserve it for boasting and move on afterwards. 8. Diesel could have done something different to Duck as part of revenge. Like tell the trucks to bump Duck down the hill when they were next with him. It is normal revenge an engine did to another. This shows how much Diesel had overstepped the mark. 9. Duck was not rude at all when he made his remark “I only wish sir, I’d thought of those names myself, if the dome fits”. It is not an insult at all. I can understand it could’ve insulted Gordon for loosing his dome in Domeless Engines. But it is a saying for “If the boot fits”. 10. The audience state how Duck was really not a hero, Duck is followed along by the trucks, it was mainly the responsibility for Duck’s driver and the signalman. But it said in the narration “Duck put every ounce and weight and steam against the trucks”. This showed Duck did try to stop the train from preventing a serious accident. 11. After Duck was sent to work with Edward, Diesel told lies about Henry, but it was only mentioned in the books. This shows how Henry may have done something wrong, but Diesel always has to retaliate, every time another engine did something to hack him off. This implicated he is an engine who would get hacked off if someone did something to wined him up. But he would also take it to far and go beyond what other engines did to him.

I think Duck played a trick on Diesel, but Diesel told lies about Duck, which is framing and got Duck into trouble

Thing is Duck never arranged the trucks that Diesel was trying to move, he was just watching him make a fool out of himself, that's a jerk move, but it's not playing a trick. Duck never told Diesel to take the old trucks. Diesel specifically asked him not to tell him anything, not even help, so Duck didn't.
@archermania931411 ай бұрын
Duck and Diesel really show the thin line between pride and arrogance. Also, Duck didn't necessarily play a trick on Diesel. He told Diesel to arrange the trucks in the yard while he fetches Gordon's coaches and Diesel being inexperienced and prideful simply took the wrong trucks. in my opinion Duck was an enabler but Diesel was definitely the villain. Duck laughed at Diesel for being overconfident while Diesel spread lies, framed Duck and lied to everyone even Sir Topham Hatt over a situation he put himself in.

Fun fact duck in the diesel engine takes place in 1957 sometime in June or July
@numberjacksoctonauts71383 жыл бұрын
You forgot a key point which I think would help justify Duck's behaviour and be suspicious of Diesel. Real life history with the 5700s and 08s. According to research, Duck also would have been on the mainland just long enough to see some of the Class 08s coming out onto British Railway's rails. He would have seen them supplementing his class and would become suspicious. These suspicions would only rise more when he hears along the grapevine that his siblings are starting to be withdrawn and replaced by the 08s; Diesel's class, leaving Duck's siblings for scrap. And then, Diesel, an 08, shows up out of absolutely nowhere. Of course Duck would jump the gun on that note! To further my point, Duck's real life basis, GWR No. 5741, was withdrawn in 1957 - the year that the Duck and the Diesel engine book is said to take place - and was scrapped in 1958 - the year that the book was published.
