I always thought that Diesel was just faking being nice to the other engines to befriend them in his plan to wipe out steam engines on the island due to his oily tone, but looking at those first words in your perspective does make sense. It just depends the way you look at it.
@rayvenkman20873 жыл бұрын
Another way to look at it is that both were in the wrong but because Duck had ‘A Close Shave’ to help win him points in his Controller’s eyes and because he has others to help his character since they know him better than they do with Diesel. Plus Diesel wasn’t as good as hiding his tracks as Duck did with his part in humiliating the new engine.
@the_autism_express2 жыл бұрын
In my honest opinion, while duck was a bit boastful about his heritage, I feel like diesel's "flattery" of the big engines was just him buttering up the others and trying to get them on his side for what would eventually go down. Duck never told diesel to get the old trucks, but duck never corrected him until after his incident. The whole "duck correcting diesel" thing, to me at least, only makes sense in the UK dub, because diesel sounded like he was about to say "fat hat." So, to my conclusion, both parties were in the wrong, but you'll never be able to convince me that duck's runaway rescue was solely a coincidental act.
@comicfan13243 жыл бұрын
To be fair duck is kind of a hypocrite. I mean it’s fine for him to be proud and boastful, but the moment another engine is, that’s going to far? And if the events of this took place after dieselization had begun, I could understand why Duck would be a little hesitant to except the class of diesel that has likely sent hundreds of his brothers to the scrapyard. But as it stands Duck really has no reason to dislike Diesel.

If all people are going to say how Duck predicted Diesel wrongly. I do admit in certain cases it was wrong. But Duck was worried about getting scraped if diesels arrived on the railway and Diesel did become too nice to Gordon, Henry and James where it looked like he is attempting to gain friends to do something devious. Duck doesn’t like Gordon, Henry and James as they were rude to him when he arrived on the island. He was worried Gordon, Henry and James would get Diesel to do something bad. Regarding of Duck takes charge, where the big engines bully Duck and Duck and Percy take revenge, the audience didn’t like it. But it was alright for Duck to treat a new engine badly and deserved to be treated like crap. Nobody can have things both ways in life. Gordon, Henry and James were hypocrites to treat engines badly and get offended when an engine refers them to bad names.

He isn't and I have proof. he is a no nonsense engine and Diesel shouldn't have been so cocky. The 3 big engines are the real hypocrites because all they did before Duck arrive were boast tease, trick engines and went on strike as well. It was obvious they didn't want Duck to arrive because in the beginning of Duck Takes Charge they just didn't care if Percy needed help, plus when Duck was coming out of Knapford to pick up Coaches when he did absolutely nothing to them he gets covered in smoke by the 3 big engines and they just laughed until Duck and Percy got payback. Also Diesel didn't want to learn from Duck and Sir Topham Hatt so obviously Duck had to trick him. When u are a new engine, u have to listen to the veteran engines that actually care about u just like when Duck listened to Percy, he didn't boast to him because he listened.

If I was Sir Topham Hatt, I would not sent Diesel packing, as Duck did start the situation at first. But I would’ve reprimanded Duck as well as praise him for preventing the trucks. I would’ve had both Duck and Diesel shunt trucks in the yard for bullying each other.

I have a few points to raise in response to this. 1. The "worthy Topham" thing is a poor translation of the original text. Diesel goes to say "the Fat Controller" before being corrected by Duck. Duck has never referred to Sir Topham Hatt as the Fat Controller previously, so he probably genuinely thinks that's rude, especially coming from a newcomer. 2. With regard to Duck being arrogant, that's a character flaw in his part, but it's worth revisiting the last line of Duck Takes Charge here; "After Percy went away, Duck was left to manage alone. He did so. Easily." Duck is more justified in thinking highly of himself than Diesel, who has yet to prove himself. Diesel bragged that he knew everything and didn't have to be shown what to do, which is what made it so funny when he tried so hard to move trucks that he wasn't meant to. 3. People keep mentioning that Duck played a trick on Diesel, but no one has been able to explain what exactly that trick was. Diesel refused to be taught, inevitably screwed up, and Duck merely laughed at his expense. 4. Duck disciplines the trucks when they take their ridiculing of Diesel too far. As the opening narration states, "When Duck returned and heard the trucks singing, he was horrified." If he was feigning this, the narration would have said so, or at least hinted at it. 5. Diesel proved his inability to take responsibility for his own mistake by accusing Duck of making the trucks laugh at him. He made Duck the scapegoat and took revenge. 6. The other engines have known Duck longer than Diesel, so it's not surprising they would see Diesel's baseless accusation for what it is. Also worth noting is that no one in the story hates Diesel at this point. All they've done is call out his arrogance, which doesn't in any way imply hatred. 7. That wasn't Diesel's only option. He could have taken it up with the Fat Controller. 8. Duck saying "I only wish I'd thought of those names myself if the dome fits" is merely a response to them not letting him into the shed, as well as a dig at Gordon for having lost his dome in Domeless Engines. This reference would have been lost on TVS viewers as that story wouldn't be adapted for television until the next series. Another case of poor translation. 9. Duck is able to slow down the train enough to prevent the barber and his customer from being killed in the accident. That's the heroic deed that he does. 10. Duck feels that it was a sense of duty to slow down the trucks as opposed to an act of bravery. That's why he makes that comment. 11. Diesel was found out when he told lies about Henry. The circumstances of this aren't known, but I believe the reader is expected to assume that Diesel made another mistake and Henry happened to be the nearest engine for Diesel to make the scapegoat as he had already done with Duck. Again, this omission from the TV episode is another case of poor translation between mediums, but all of this put together pretty thoroughly exonerates Duck.

Ok so, Duck played a trick on diesel for boasting, yes? Well actually that’s where your wrong. If you take into consideration what diesel says. “We diesels don’t need to learn, we are revolutionary.” Theres also two other things, Duck didn’t tell which trucks diesel could take. Duck says, “If your so revothingagummy, then perhaps you’d like to fetch my trucks, while I arrange Gordon’s coaches.” He just asked him to collect his trucks. The second thing. Put an engine like James or Henry in a story like this. James/Henry would become boastful, Duck would make some witty comment, they would end up screwing themselves over, and then things would go on as normal. Diesel over reacted because HE THOUGHT DUCK was playing a trick on him, when in reality, he wasn’t.

What you said about the bit where Duck 'defended Diesel', I'm sorry, lad, but Duck was indeed defending him. While he may have played a trick on Diesel, as Gordon, Henry and James explained, Duck would never mean to let trucks be rude to any engine. And given that the three engines have known Duck longer, they're right. And if the engines will vouch for Duck, then your claim is false. "I only wish, Sir, that I had thought of those names myself, if the dome fits." That wasn't an insult. Duck didn't come up with those names himself. And the 'if the dome fits' part... well... I can see how Gordon may take offence, but then again, it's more or less Duck saying 'if the boot fits'. Begging your pardon, but Duck didn't go as far as to lie to the Fat Controller, which Diesel did. Everything you just said about Duck's Close Shave is absurd. Also, don't forget, Diesel was on trial at this time. Some engines will be skeptical of him, especially since he's the first diesel they've ever seen. In fact, I think you should have looked at both dubs before doing this video. Just looking at the one isn't enough. And if you look at the OG story, you'd find there's more to the story than what is adapted. Let's not being cold to Awdry because it's his choice to make some of the diesels antagonists like Devious Diesel and good guys like BoCo and Mavis in his books which works well in the TV show which we fans enjoy for years. @dorsius3 жыл бұрын
@@DavidBContentExtravaganza3967 I have to respectfully disagree on that. While I get that these are Awdry's stories and characters, and is able to do what he wants with them, it doesn't mean I agree with everything he done. . His potrayal of diesels being the main one for me. Even though he chose to make some of the diesels antaganists due to them replacing steam engines, all he did was create a black and white perspective on diesels. Which for most part doesn't allow diesel characters like Boco, Bear and to extent Mavis to be flawed and just only "the nice diesels". Which makes them a little one-dimensional to me. Plus its like the stories are saying only steamers(even though I sympathize for them due to scraping) are the good guys and don't have any bad apples at all. Which I feel is a bit hypocritical when you take steamers like Gordon, James(who both have had history of bullying several characters), Thomas and especailly Spencer into account. This why I'm glad content creaters stories, are putting some diesels in more of a grey area as well as showing not all steamers are good. The fan made charatcer Alfred being a great example of that. This is how I felt, because even I'm fan of both locomotives, I'm getting sick and tired diesel locomotives, thomas related or not constanly getting based on.
