A short diary vlog which does cut off and please excuse the drying laundry in my office, we need some dry days and my cat sha keeps destroying my cloth airers! This vlog does cut off and I will continue on the topic of worming another day :)
"Straight up birds showing signs of weakness can be an indicator of many things and a couple of the most common is parasites'/worms or poisoning such as lead. Parasites' rob their nutritional needs and with female ducks calcium levels are already tapped from egg production/more affected than chickens/hens. Calcium deficiency can also arise from fighting infections or recovery due to more than normal amounts of calcium actually being tapped in recovery/immunity, so as you can see parasites'/calcium def. and illness can become a viscous cycle so twice a year worm your duckies (spring/autumn) with wormers that target 'all' species of worms' Many of the commercial varieties bought from the pet store only target 1 to a few species. Worms."
Part of Catherine's Rehabilitation program involves 2 warm watered herbal baths a day, straight out of the water I then support her keel in my office so she can preen before I work in a drawing salve into her flipper with some therapeutic massage. She's finally outside again by day in the separate run with Flint and Freya and its a joy to see her making happy sounds and flapping her wings out there... In this vlog you can see how her eyes water and how she uses the oil gland on her back to preen. Its hard for her to stand for long periods of time at the moment, so I support all her weight with my hand cupping her keel. Recorded in the late tide of Midsprings Eostre Aus, 2024.
We're still trying to find a avian vet closer to me to remove the remaining plug under a 'local' anesthetic, I don't want her being put under at this point, I feel that will be a greater risk to her life than the plug slowly diminishing.
For those who just like ducks I have made a playlist which includes my feathered Brood here - • 💚 Duck life (My Quacke...
