We got ducks! Ducks as pets. Heres a few clips of their first weeks with us. Theses little guys grow really fast. Here they are 2 weeks old by 8 weeks they have all their white feathers and are 4 times the size. Now (June 2016) 2 years later Jimmy and Jane are HUGE. Jimmy is bigger than most medium size dogs.

I love when they strech they legs far in the back, how lovely. Like us when we stretch our arms and yawn. Same when they flip their wings. I've owned 2 muscovicy ducks 7 months apart, I released them in a park close to my home with others ducks and feed them everyday. Nice little things when they are small but they grow very fast and the pop, oh my godness !!! No more, I live in a flat, not in a house with garden, so everyday, 30 times per day, cleaning all the tiny pop which become hand pop when they are big, no more but I'm happy to have raised, like you, 2 wonderful creatures. :)

Unfortunately the officials of town where I live removed them because some stupids people were feeding them with their garbage foods, what they didn't eat, they were throwing all that to the ducks, DESPITE warnings signboards stating ducks must not be fed, they find their own food in the park. All the food on the ground attract rampant vermin like rats, etc... They were a lot. Myself I bring food in a recipient and the duck eats inside, with a bowl of water. Once finished, I take home the food not eaten, I do not throw eat on the ground, it is not clean and again it attracts rats, etc... But lots of people are stupid and do stupid things and at the end we all lose. The ducks are removed, the people have no longer ducks in front of them to enjoy. So they were around 13 ducks and they removed 10 and my 2 ducks included, I wasn't there the day they did it. And it is fast, with a net, they catch them all in 30min. Never knew where they went, I asked, they answer in this new park in this town, I go, no duck. My first duck, a female, got pregnant 2 times and I raised her last baby, a male, who was on the verge to died, he could hardly walk, it was in winter. Both were gone by the official of my town and brought I don't know where. A woman neighbour told us they could have been in a specific town, in a farm, I will inquest, will see. Hope they're fine where they are. And yours, where are they now?

They were only on my dest for a very short time no more than an hour. Ducklings must stay warm and the best way to do that is to keep them in their brooder (heated duckling house) until their big enough to go live outside in the barn.

Hi Cole Jasmin, It's a cat basket normally used by my tiny rabbit Lily. The ducks lives in a brooder for the first 8 weeks when they were to big for the brooder (and as soon as it was warm enough outside) they moved out into the barn. The bested was only a home away from home so they could hang out on my desk and lap as I worked. Scarlett

I have three pekin ducklings. All three were hatched on the same day, but one of them is not growing as much as the other two. I see them eat/drink at the same time and almost the same amount. I am feeding them Manna Pro Duckling & Gosling Starter Grower. I had read that it has a good amount of niacin and obviously protein as well for the ducklings. Any reason why one of the ducklings might not be growing at the same rate as the other two? Is there anything wrong with that one in particular? Anything I’m doing wrong? Any tips to help that duckling? Thank you!!

@crazyjkz
@crazyjkz 2 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately there's no real way to potty train a duck since they have no control over their defecation, they just poop whenever and wherever. The best compromise is to either keep them outside or to use duck diapers while they're indoors. You can buy duck diapers online and they do work, although there's definitely an adjustment period for the duck.

They're not house pets. That's why some stores require you buy a certain amount. You definitely need to get them out in the yard when they're bigger. But I do applaud you for having the patience to clean up their poops. I definitely dont promote this, especially as adults. But you do you I guess. Just make sure they get time outdoors.

I was thinking small crickets but he is extremely small so I'm not sure... Any suggestions or tips would help a lot thank you...
@HowToGrowAGarden
@HowToGrowAGarden 8 жыл бұрын
Oh no! This is very complicated. Domestic baby ducks eat medicated baby duck food. However wild ducks are fed regurgitated foods by their mothers and fathers. Parent ducks will leave their babies and go looking for food for a long time so it very unlikely the duckling didn't have a mom or dad. Also ducks don't drown. What you were watching was a baby duck taking its first bath and playing in the water which they can do for hours when their young. But yes it definitely looks like they're drowning even though they are indeed not. You need to take the duckling to a wild life reserve, animal sanctuary or call your local municipality and ask them who takes in injured / lost ducks and animals in your area. Good luck I hope the little guy survives, Scarlett
@WobblesandBean
@WobblesandBean 8 жыл бұрын
+How to Grow a Garden with Scarlett Damen That's not accurate at all. Never feed a duck medicated food. Wild ducks don't regurgitate food for their babies, they forage just like any other duck. It's best to get starter crumble and add niacin. Baby ducks need it to grow bones properly and it is absent in all crumble feed.

With constant attention, you might be ok for a few days. make sure she has a shallow pond or tub to swim in. eventually, though you'll need to get a 2nd one. On the bright side, this is the right time to get a baby duck. I'd get 2 so they're a little family. In 2 months the babies will be the same size as your current duck.
