I'm in my mid-40s and get very nostalgic returning to old games - but I don't want to experience them *exactly* how I did the first time around. Even at the time, I bought the RGB cable, I saved for the Trinitron to try to make the game look better. Plugging my Analogue console into my mahoosive OLED just feels like culmination of that quest. I remember texture warp on the PS - but "I didn't like it them and I don't like it now" If I could have bought a "PS1 Pro" that did away with it at the time, I would have. @@Carcenomy it makes sense because Xbox is a Microsoft product. Aka Windows in other words you will always have PC features on Xbox more than you would on a PlayStation console. His comparison didn't make sense to me because Sony appeals more towards traditional console players. Why would Sony have a developer mode on their systems when it's a closed system similar to apple. Videos like these really make me think about grabbing a Series S since they tend to be more available than Series X, but at the same time, I plan on upgrading my computer probably sometime in the RDNA 3 generation because my CPU is 11 years old and GPU is a GTX 1660... would be a huge upgrade for me and probably more worth it to save my money in my own case.
@alxjones3 жыл бұрын
@@delko000 Consider that some people don't want both a PC and a console for gaming. People like to game in the living room on their big TV, not on a monitor in their bedroom. Having one machine to play current gen console games and emulate older gen games is an awesome way to avoid compromises here. Plus, people that only need a computer for very basic tasks tend to get very low-spec laptops like MacBook Air. While that could certainly handle a PS1 emulator, it wouldn't be able to handle a lot of the improvements in graphics and framerate, and the lack of fans means that thermals are a real issue. Also, the Series S is $300. Without already knowing a lot about building PCs or doing a ton of research, it's difficult to know what a hypothetical build would be capable of, and even harder (maybe impossible right now) to make one that will actually match or surpass Series S in any way at that price point. Comparatively, the amount of research it takes to get DuckStation working on Series S, even with minimal tech knowledge, is negligible. And I can think of many more use cases, these are just the top of the list. I mean, if you *really* can't imagine why someone might want emulation on their console, you're just not trying.

The "increased" draw distance is just an illusion, it was always like this, but the extra crispiness of the presentation allows you to take in more details in the same frame, making the illusion work. If anyone else is wondering what the game's called it's "Einhander" Guess I'll give it a go lol, see if I liked it. I think a DuckStation core has been added for RetroArch. If this is the case, I wonder how well it runs on the Xbox Series X/S? The advantage of running DuckStation via RetroArch is the ability to assign game specific settings.

Hi MVG. I wouldn’t say no to new video about emulation performance on Xbox if there are some progress regarding Dolphin/PS2. Super interesting video as always.
@Bl4ckH4nd3 жыл бұрын
Dolphin is still a bit iffy at times but generally for GameCube it works well. The PS2 cores of RetroArch had quite a few updates in the last 2 months and most games play at full speed now, even with increased resolution. You also have a separate menu for speed hacks and all that now and you can save per game configs for the few games that need more aggressive hacks that break others.
@daddykong63883 жыл бұрын
@@Bl4ckH4nd oh lovely! Thank you for sharing this. Do you know if it is possible to switch from hardware to software mode on the PCSX2 core on Retroarch ? Reason I’m asking this is because Burnout 3 requires to switch from hardware to software mode before loading a race to fix the black sky… if someone knows about this game, I’m all ears. :) I went for PS5 but no doubt I’ll get such a portable xbox if it emulates that well!
@Bl4ckH4nd3 жыл бұрын
@@daddykong6388 Currently the PS2 core only allows hardware rendering so sadly any games that require a software toggle won't work. Burnout 3 still has the black sky issue. Maybe they'll find a workaround but due to limitations on drivers and instructions on console compared to PC, there aren't many options.

I like the down scaling feature in combination with the internal resolution increase for games with pre-rendered backgrounds (FF7-9).
@Gaming.Vids13 жыл бұрын
Please explain that. How do you do it? I've noticed in Gran Turismo that 4K resolution makes most things look good but the back of certain cars look bad as it's like they're using a set picture instead of a 3D model so 4K upscaling it looks worse than 480p as it looks more pixellated. Sounds like what you're saying is you can downscale stuff like that but upscale everything else, is that correct?

What about the resolution change in Chrono Cross's menus? Is the internal scaling seamless, with no black screens?
@RyanMan7673 жыл бұрын
Yes, that *should* work just fine. You will usually only ever encounter this type of issue on real hardware that's being upscaled to work on a modern display in one way or another. Emulation rarely has this issue, since its (ideally) totally reinterpreting the code, and rendering at any native resolution it wants. The render resolution would stay the same between those screens even if it doesn't on console.

We need more dedicated emulator ports like this to UWP. I can't be the only one that doesn't enjoy Retroarch. All in one solutions tend to be messy and hard to set up. I just want a dedicated Dolphin port.
@LonelySpaceDetective3 жыл бұрын
God I hate RetroArch's UI. For controller use I guess it's fine, but for keyboard+mouse it's pretty annoying to navigate, and the "quick" menu when you're playing a game doesn't give you full control of your bindings for some fucking reason; forcing you to go back to the main menu if you want to extensively customize that stuff per-game. Dolphin, PCSX2 and DuckStation's control profiles are so underrated as a feature.
@angolin93523 жыл бұрын
Being able to play emulators on a TV was novel in 2006 when TVs all had different connectors from PC monitors, but things are different now. Just hook up your PC to HDMI. Buy a Vita, DS, or one of those new handheld PCs if you want to emulate on the go, but stuff like RetroArch/RetroPi or turning your console into an emulation machine just doesn't make sense for the vast majority of people.
