DuckTales is an American animated television series, developed by Matt Youngberg and Francisco Angones, and produced by Disney Television Animation. The series is a reboot of the original 1987 series of the same name, which focused on the lives of Scrooge McDuck and his family as they engaged in a variety of adventures around the world, as well as in the fictional city of Duckburg. The reboot itself focuses on newer elements and deeper character stories, including a greater involvement of Donald Duck.

There's a recurring joke where there's an adventure in the background or with a minor character that we don't get to see that I wish we had seen and it gets old quickly in my opinion, but that's my only real issue with the series.

The greatest thing this show pulled off was making Della not only feel like she belongs, but like she's been a part of the picture the whole time. The first season makes us actually feel like she's someone that Scrooge and Donald and Beakley really knew, not just this nebulous mary sue of a concept. By the time she makes her way home, we're not just excited to meet her, we feel like we've been missing her all along.

I really don't understand why Americans are going crazy over Della, but she is what she is. A bad written character who doesn't belong into the Duck family, but the writer's (unlike Rosa) are too stupid to realize that. Her addition results in the immediate tossing away of Donald which then happened.

I do disagree that the 3 brothers weren't distinct by the first season. It's definitely elaborated on _more_ in season 2, but they never felt like clones to me. Even by the pilot you can see how each of them idolizes something *different* about Scrooge that reflects their own personalities. Smarts, adventuring, riches. The episodes that delve into that more are some of my favorites, like Louie [spoilers] *Becoming the Richest Duck in the World(TM) through one of his schemes and it carrying over into the next episode, showing both him proving his incredible potential and also his childlike understanding that makes him not as good at it as Scrooge. Though even so with that episode, Scrooge has something to learn _from him_ too, it's great.
@inakamoto
@inakamoto 2 жыл бұрын
I agree. After season 1 was finished, I had a good read on all three nephews. Huey was the book-smart one, with a wide-eyed sense of wonder regarding new discoveries, while also prone to becoming flustered over not knowing everything, and not being the best at improvising during high-stress situations. Louie was the clever one, crafty and quick-witted, but also tended to be lazy, a little too obsessed with monetary values, and too often wanting to opt for the easy-street approach to problem solving. And then there's Dewey, passionate to a fault and eager to prove himself, while also being the dumbest out of the three of them, and being too much of a show off.
@TheGoldenSerpent
@TheGoldenSerpent Жыл бұрын
In the first 3 and half minutes of episode 1 their characterizations are shown. You might need to have the benefit of hindsight, but when they're all describing why they're excited to meet Scrooge, Dewey says he's epic, Huey says he's smart and Louie says he's rich.

Yeah because the way they portray Scrooge in this show is very interesting. They show from where he evolved from a past where he not only had to work hard for where he got to now but he also had a jaded, greedy side that sometimes he would lose sight of important things like family and friendship. All this ties into how he was depicted in the comics. And David Tennant does a great job at replacing the late Alan Young as the voice.

The biggest thing I loved in this show was Della Duck and Magica de Spell. Paget Brewster gave Della such an amazing personality. A mom that wants to prove herself to her kids. But at the same time, she's still kind of a dork by nature. She has a temper, she's a worry wart but at the same time a dareless adventurer. She has so much personality and is so loveable. At the same time Catherine Tate absolutely loves being the villain! Every line she says as Magica she relishes and loves. And then you have the absolutely wonderful chemistry that she has with David Tennant. Whenever they have scenes together, they work so well off of each other. And she kills at riding the line of loving aunt and full on villain who only cares about revenge. She's constantly emotionally manipulative towards Lena. But you feel bad for her when you listen to her tell why she hates Scrooge so much. These two ladies are my absolute favorite characters...AND THEN THERE'S MANNY!

Actually Disney's animation history tends to have a good track record than most for doing 'strong proactive females' that aren't incredibly bland and unfunny or built entirely around undermining the male gender. See Judy Hopps, Rebecca Cunningham, the 1998 Mulan, hell even the original Mrs Beakley was sometimes badass despite her funny dowager personality. Kind of ironic given Disney's famed for pushing the 'princess' cliche.

One of my favorite things about the show is that it takes Scrooge's saying of "Tougher than the toughies, sharper than the sharpies, and smarter than the smarties!", and applies it to each duckling. And Huey, the focus of season three, wants to be known for how SMART he is.

I do wish they'd have taken this a little further, or at least not wrapped them up quite so quickly. Dewey was handled the best, but also had the least complexity to his issues. I liked where they left his character, secure in his friendships and his place in the family, plus his ongoing rivalry with Don Karnage, and still working on himself. With Louie, I really wish they'd let him spend more time with Goldie and show them learning together to be compassionate as well as sharp. Wrapping his whole arc up in one episode with the Bombie seemed way too convenient. And Huey really needed more time with Bradford, being shown their similarities and having it shoved in his face how little his brothers understand him. It was a great thing to do in the finale, but it should have shown up like ten episodes sooner. We also really needed a moment to reflect on the fact that Bradford killed Buford and Bentley, something Huey would never do. But still, the fact that I was invested enough to have such nuanced criticism is kind of a compliment in itself.

And once again Doug prooves he does'nt pay attention as much as he should, it's clear from the START that Huey Dewey and Louie are different from each other. I really don't understand why Doug says the triplets were very close to being interchangeable in season one. There's literally an episode where they each go off to do their own thing in that season. Shoot, in episode 3, Webbie annoys each of the boys while on a trip to Funzo's but annoys them in different ways that relates to their specific characters. She ignores Huey's rules, ruin's Louie's scheme and erase's Dewey's fame. Another thing is that each season moreso focuses on a specific triplet. Season one is about Dewey, season 2 Lewey, and season 3 Huey. I 100% agree that they dropped the ball with Negaduck, it was such a perfect setup yet they failed to follow through with it, probably because they were hoping to bring him back in an actual show for Darkwing Duck. There are a total of 2 cartoons that I give a 10/10 throughout their entire running. Avatar the Last Airbender and this. What Avatar did for western fantasy cartoons, DuckTales 2017 did for cartoon reboots and modern Saturday morning adventure cartoons.

Now imagine if they made a Gargoyles reboot with this kinda passion. It was trending on twitter when Disney+ first dropped, because so many people had watched it for the first time or millionth time. And a LOT of first timers were so wowed by it. Heck THE CREATOR was so floored by it being trending that he was like "hey maybe if this gets enough traction we could bring this back with today's animation". Hard not to see why. It's the perfect mix of drama and action. Not to mention, Elisa is just such a badass. AND A WOMAN OF COLOR BADASS. Like hello why does no one mention her when talking about strong female characters. Shameful lol. I would love to see Gargoyles get the treatment that DuckTales got. It needs to happen.

At least Webby has a more personality than her original counterpart in the 1st series, where she was just the girly girl. Aside being a fangirl of Scrooge, here, she's an explorer, she's an introvert, she wants to branch out but doesn't know how to do it because she's been sheltered her whole life. She's always quick to act whenever she feels she needs to and is often melodramatic, which makes her come off it's crazy to others at times but she tries her best and she's overall very friendly.

Negaduck was definitely set up for a later episode that just ended up not happening after Disney decided to not renew the show for a fourth season. Some people say that because the show technically wasn't cancelled that means it got to run its full course, but I don't think that's the case. There are plenty of indicators that the third season wasn't originally intended to be the last one, including plot threads just getting dropped. That being said, I think the way they ended the show was the best way they could have done it considering the situation. I have my own personal complaints regarding the show, especially some of the villains, but overall it did an amazing job of not only paying homage to the original Ducktales and the Carl Barks/Don Rosa comics, but creating an entirely new iteration of the Duck universe that's incredibly rich and vibrant.

Favorite easter egg is the gargoyle theme and " I live again... again" line in the finale. I started watching gargoyles because of that line. So worth it. Thoughts: I loved it all the way through, since the announcement of the reboot and i was rewarded as such. I never saw the original because it stopped airing when i was little but i wanted to so bad. I couldn't find it anywhere dubbed in Greek, and when i found it years later dubbed, i thought it was for little kids, being a teenager and such, so i just tossed it aside (big mistake). So when the reboot was announced, it was like a gift for my younger self. I was on board from day one and i got what i asked for and more. I loved how it introduced me to so many amazing characters from all those cartoons i didn't watch as a kid and I loved every minute of them. I started watching gargoyles darkwing duck and the original ducktales because of the reboot, giving my younger self the cartoons he always wanted to watch. It has many reasons to be liked and loved, but the amazing characters both new and old, which me and my younger self watched, are my reason to adore it.

I disagree a bit, Louie was always lazier than the rest, wanted to be rich and wanted no responsibility. Dewey always wanted more attention, always wanted adventure and always wanted to be praised. And Huey was always the bookworm, always wanted to follow the rules and was always stubborn about doing things his way, while always having an answer. So, no, the boys were different from the start.... and their hobbies did show their differences. They just delved into it more in later seasons... but the boys were always different.... And it's less that I dislike the Webbie ending and more that I wish they teased it more early on.... like, it felt like it was out of nowhere.... we never felt like there was more to Webby's backstory other than maybe dead parents or something... And the ending didn't actually explain much because it was already shown early on that Webby was obsessed with Scrooge because she had an over protective grandma and was always stuck inside a house so her main entertainment was stories about Scrooge, and her first friends were Scrooge's nephews.... And also the fact that she felt lonely and had no other family, but because she lacked the blood bond, the only way she felt she could fit in was by learning the McDuck stories...

One of my fave moments in this reboot was fixing Daisy and Donald's relationship. As a kid I had no idea why those two were together. He was always trying his hardest and still messes up and all she does is reprimand him for screwing up. Why were they together? Then the reboot gave us the answer. Daisy hears Donald in a different way. She understands him and vice versa and I thought that was beautiful.

Lena was under used in the show, the boys could’ve been her little brothers, she gets to bond hit each one of them. Donald could’ve been the father figure and beakly could’ve been a mother figure Lena never really had, she disappeared from most of season two and came back in season three living with Violet and a her dads, Scrooge promised her a place in the family, they never tired to find her, and she moves in with VIOLET! A girl she just met Lena should have serious trust issues form magica her abuser and they OpenDoc one episode she is forced into working with her and The MCducks don’t even support her besides Wendy and magica is let off with no magic but other then that no real punishment.

They all formed relationships with her, so to have absolutely nothing from them acknowledging she’s back is very unsatisfactory to me. Plus her adoption with the Sabrewings happening off screen? I, again, would’ve LOVED seeing that.

In a time where a reboot either tries so hard they miss the intention of the original or try so little that it comes off as Titans Go (some say it’s gotten better over time, but I’m not going to try and dive back in any time soon), Ducktales nails that sweet spot near perfectly. Not only for it to be it’s own thing while capturing what made the original great, but also how it feels like it is a tribute for old fans who grew up watching the Disney shows. If we consider shows like Gravity Falls and Avatar to be some of the best shows of the modern time (or I guess what we would have called modern back when they came out), Ducktales is the approach that should be taken when you want to do a reboot series.

As someone who grew up watching the original DuckTales, read the comics by Carl Barks and Don Rosa, I can honestly say that 2017 DuckTales, for the most part surpasses the original for all the right reasons. Adding Della Duck and keeping her with the cast was probably the biggest stroke of genius 2017 DuckTales had. This show took risks--hell, even the very idea of rebooting this show was a big risk in and of itself--and they were worth it. It did what a true reboot/remake should do: honor the original, while at the same time bring something new to the table.

I heard originally they wanted this series to be a direct sequel to the original but ditched that to be a standalone canon, which I feel was almost definitely for the best since it means it can be appreciated on its own merits and won't be nitpicked for every deviation it takes from the original (and it definitely feels like they wanted to do things very differently from the first show and even the comics sometimes).

I doubt very much that will happen. The classic versions of Huey, Dewey and Louie are too iconic to be replaced with the Ducktales 2017 version with which you have a few problems. No, those versions of HDL Duck in Ducktales 2017 were good, but there was a bad development of their characteristics, also their voices absolutely do not correspond to their age. With that change, they would lose what HDL was created for, to be together, and so is their gag. I know that many will not like this, but the original HDL is better for me, because at least there is not so much focus on them, and they were very naughty and smart boys who often agree and quarrel, but eventually reconcile. I agree that the Legend of the Three Caballeros should get the second season, but I doubt very much that it will happen. Of course, this is just my opinion.

I really enjoyed this show, but I think my biggest problem with it was how one-note most of the characters were. After watching an episode for a few minutes, it was pretty easy to predict how each of them was going to respond to the situation and what their "arc" for that episode was gonna be. But then the characters wouldn't really change and grow over the course of the show, at least not compared to other modern Disney shows like The Owl House or Amphibia. But didn't bother me too much, because their personalities were still strong, and it was entertaining watching them interact off each other. It felt like the show mostly prioritized being an exciting adventure with fun characters over being anything super deep or insightful (though they definetly had those moments as well, especially whenever Della was involved), and I think they definetly succeeded with that vision. Also, in regards to the Negaduck tease, one of the writers for the show said that they tried squeezing him somewhere into the Darkwing Duck special, but they decided he deserved his own separate episode. But then the show wasn't gonna be renewed for a fourth season, so they had to quickly wrap everything up and didn't get a chance to use him. But there is gonna be a Darkwing Duck reboot on Disney+ (though it hasn't been confirmed if it's gonna tie into this DuckTales universe), so we might see him there

You make a good observation about how Huey, Dewey, and Louie were fleshed out in the new series compared to the original. The red, blue, and green colors was a start at telling them apart, but the original didn't quite flesh them out as much, or give them defining traits beyond their colored clothes. You also make a good point about 'who created 'DuckTales', well there's the original comics that inspired it from Carl Barks. The original from Jymn Magoon, and Brad Landerth, and the recent one from Matt Youngberg, and Frank Angones. Shame we never got more Nega Duck, and I'm not too keen on what Seth Rogan's gonna do with it if 'Santa Inc' is any indication.

One point of HDL was to make them the same to be one character in three bodies. It is cartoon silliness at it's finest. I think Donald Nephews in this are too unlikable.

SPOILERS This show is so good (speaking as someone who never watched the original). They get you invested in everyone and then punch you in the gut with every finale. And in a rare case, hindsight actually makes the series better. Like when SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED they are arguing about Scrooge loosing Della in space and Scrooge tells Webby to stay out of it because she isn't family, and we find out in the series finale that she is his biological daughter, when you go back and watch that scene it hurts all the more. The show is absolutely hysterical and clever with each character, so when it gets genuinely emotional it hits all the harder. Everything to do with the Della Duck arc in Season 2 was masterfully executed, going from seeing her before, than on the moon, than finally making it home and having no clue how to be a mother, and her kids having no idea how to have one. Finding out what each of the kids wants deep down throughout the series. The Magica DeSpell stories were always fun (I mean it's Catherine Tate and David Tennant riffing off eachither which has always been hilarious), and the finales were all winners. No perfect, some of the filler episodes definitely felt like filler episodes, but for the most part, a really, really solid series.

Can we also acknowledge the huge star talent that they got for this show? David Tennant, Danny Pudi, Ben Schwartz, Bobby Moynihan, Kate Micucci, Beck Bennett, Catherine Tate, Don Cheadle, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Stephanie Beatriz, & many more!

I don't know why, but I couldn't get into the reboot. I loved the original, but somehow after Gravity Falls, updated Duck Tales characters seemed a bit artificial. Like "let's make her more like Maybel". And also where stories in the old show were timeless Indiana Jones style adventures, stories in reboot were more modern, which made them quickly old for me. But I stopped watching after the episode with the Steve Jobs/Elon Musk type of guy. Maybe missed out on something.

If I have one critique of this show, it's that the ending felt a bit rushed. Not the build up to it, but the end overall just kinda rushed at us. I mean, they just gave us some BIG character revelations in the finale, and now we don't get to see how that changes things for the characters; they hint at it in the ending, but we still don't get to explore it much. Also, I feel like there was no good reason for the show to end. It's not like in Gravity Falls where they leave the weirdness/adventure behind, it just kinda stops showing the adventures. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad they didn't stretch the show out too long, but with all the reveals in the ending and how that changes things, it would've been nice to explore those a bit more.

My single favorite moment of this show, Flintheart at Scrooge's funeral I fell outta my seat laughing But seriously love this show and literally my biggest complaint is Launchpad's hat, Had he had his classic aviator cap, he wouldn't have wasted so much time telling everyone he was a pilot

They did it, they actually did it, they made a good reboot to a cartoon! I mean we all know how most reboots are so it very nice to see one that put forth some actual effort into its story and characters instead of relying on stupid humor. I knew of the original Ducktales of course but my viewing of it I think was limited to the movie it had as the series was over when I was pretty young. I really liked ll the references to other shows in this, Darkwing duck would have the most obvious, but there also references to: Goof Troop as Goofy appeared in one episode and mentioned max Gummy Bears: the theme song to it was said by one of minor villains in an episode Talespin- Kit shows up in an episode Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers- they show up in another episode Yeah, most of them were references or one-off appearances but it’s still nice to see that Disney acknowledged the shows exitance, and maybe we could get reboots of those shows in the future, cause that would be awesome, and as long as they are handled with the same respect as this show was given I foresee them doing well. I liked how the updated the characters. Huey, Dewey, and Louie aren’t just copies of each other with a different colored shirt, they have their own personalities, webby isn’t just “the girl” she a fun energetic character whom the boys (and the fans) like a lot more the then in the original. Della is actually present, and her disappearance is explained in heartbreaking detail, she not just an absent mom I guess I would have like to know who Huey’s, Dewey’s, and Louie’s dad was but let’s face it he was never that important even in the comics. So yeah, if it isn’t already apparent that show is awesome, the theme song is awesome, the characters are awesome, the plot is awesome, the humor is good, just nearly everything about it is done do perfection. Go watch this masterpiece if you haven’t already
