I checked on some typical 808-tracks and ALL of them had the cowbell differently tuned. None was like this :-D Then, I used Ableton Live's "Analog" synth, tuned the oscillators to 540.6 and 800.1 Hz and went from there. With a specific filter envelope and some distortion, I reached very 808ish sounds. Interesting results, totally in the same realm. And chromatically playable with a keyboard.

Yes, if you listen carefully to the cowbells from different tracks you will notice the differences. Of course, many samples and replicas were also used. Have fun experimenting in Ableton! 🙂

You made the cowbell almost sound like an actual cowbell :D

Very warm, nice voice! Thanks for the instruction! Can I also do this with a normal multimeter? I'm trying to tune my cowbell with it, it's a eurorack diy module! I found the points on my pcb board, it looks different than on your board, but there are the right points on me, only which multimeter do I need? what is the black connectet to the multimeter ? wiht masse ? Sorry my english is bad !

Thank you Maik! Yes, theoretically you can use any multimeter that can measure frequencies. There are probably differences in quality, but for cowbell frequencies a simple one should be enough. An oscilloscope would be best, of course. Right, black to ground and red to the measuring point where the sound is. 👍

Anyone tried this on the rd-8? Id like to de-tune mine a tad
@DuckTronic4 жыл бұрын
I don't know the RD-8, but that should be possible. Do you have the schematics or some kind of service notes of the RD-8?
@toastingbread3 жыл бұрын
ah i just asked Maffez who does all the mods for the RD-8 apparently the way the hats, cymbals and Cowbell cant be pitch tuned as the source tone is generated slightly differently to the TR808

There also an ohter one (cowbell type Sound) lower than the one in the Video i just cant find it...it in a lot of Freestyle Songs also in lil wanye shine and in Cash doll Ice me out...i thaught its an 808 sounds...🤔
@DuckTronic4 жыл бұрын
I guess you don't mean the 808 rimshot, but the sound afterwards on Kash Doll - Ice Me Out. It's not from an 808, it sounds more like something from a simple drum machine. Maybe even like an internal metronome. You hear the sound in many tracks, maybe I'll find out where it comes from.
