If the ceiling joists run perpendicular to the central hallway, you could turn some of the joist bays into conditioned chaseways with some ZIP or similar and move the registers to the outside edges of the rooms. With the right diffusers and the Coanda effect, you might not need ceiling fans.

My mom lives in Clearwater and was without power for 5 days, fortunately she just missed getting flooded by 2 inches. My concern was mold with no A/C for 5 days. That wasn’t a problem because she has 12” thick block walls with shotcrete on the walls and her floor is torazo. I did have to fix some shingles but there was no leak because I had ice and water down when I did the roof 10 years ago. My only complaint on her A/C is it is in the garage (hasn’t been a real problem) but the lack of returns in the bedrooms makes it horrible to sleep with the doors closed even with a ceiling fan.

I've visited or lived in several homes with a similar layout. Good to know how advantageous the layout is for improving air quality and resident comfort. Btw, I hide the video when you're on the treadmill, not because I don't want to see your handsome mug, but for whatever reason, I find the constant motion distracting. Be well.

I love the idea of a reverse soffit. I might have to add an ERV and the attic is the only place it'll fit. I suspect the filters will never get changed if the whole thing is in the attic---but through-ceiling access could work.

11:45 I guess I don''t quite understand why the air velocity coming out of the supply register wouldn't "shoot" the supply air across, and mix, the bedroom air before it has time to get sucked under/through the door back to the return. Assuming the register isn't pointing directly down at the floor. Seems like it would work OK without a ceiling fan too. Is this system an especially low velocity system?

Because it'll be a variable speed system, and it won't be running at high speed all the time. Most of the time, in fact, it'll be turned down to a lower speed.

My layout is similar and Im on the fence between replacing my rodent infested crawlspace ductwork or abandoning it and the trane in my garage with HP outside and going to mini splits. What was holding me back from MS's was the lack of filtration as we live in So Oregon and usually have seasonal wildfire smoke to manage. Do you know of a great company in the Medford Oregon area that could do this type of ducted mini split system?
