Oh man, I hope you got your mom some wool socks for Christmas one of these past years. Excellent video, good job explaining the what and why.

Great info! What part of the country are y’all in?
@HomePerformance6 жыл бұрын
Atlanta GA, Tom, in the foothills of the Appalachians. Cold and dry in winter, hot and humid in summer.

Perfect! Sounds like northeast Texas!

My goal is to make my home more comfortable in the winter months especially. Summers are intense here so any relief during the summer would be nice too. My priority is staying warmer in the winter though bcuz I don’t not have a wood burning stove or fireplace. I live in the foothills of California. My house is built out over a slope/hillside so my house is built up on a wood foundation and has a diagonal basement. It has a dirt and rock bottom and is enclosed by only siding.. The subfloor is insulated with fiberglass between the joists. My question is, should I beef up the insulation below the floor or will I gain more benefit from improving the insulation in the attic. Top or bottom? I have watched many KZbin videos on the topic and some say attic and others say basement. What would you do in this scenario. I would truly appreciate your input. Beef up the top or bottom? I purchased the purple rigid poly styrene insulation panels. 1400 sq ft worth. Where would they serve me best?

Great question! My answer is always: test first, do surgery later. You want to know what your house is actually doing with its invisible dynamics before you spend a cent improving those targets.

Home Performance 😃Thank you. BTW, I share your channel allot. Especially to inform people about indoor toxins!! Now, this video I will be sharing widely because the science is brilliant and will help people make their homes $$$ efficient and more comfortable. I am like your mom, lots of socks. I own more socks than the average person!!!

Nice trick with the foundation vent 💪🏻. I do a similar test with the flow hood on the ducts, quick and dirty indicator of leakage.
@HomePerformance6 жыл бұрын
Quick and dirty, Neil? Why don’t you treat those ducts like a lady. Slow and sterile, you dog.

Hi Corbett, did you all do a final testing video on this after the upgrades were all done? I couldn't find it.

Yes, but it’s ongoing and we’ll be back next month. See here: Renovation Science kzbin.info/aero/PLsc2-5fAgMq5lgu0U_wVocxzUPoSq_JKM

@@HomePerformance super happy y’all will be continuing the series. I didn’t see a final test video in the playlist, but lots of other ones that I have watched to keep learning.

Corbett, the big question. Do your parents now understand what you do?

Haha- yes, I think they’re coming to grips with it

The cps hood is wildly inaccurate and you should use a hood that can pass a calibration test. Evergreen, Alnor, shortridge, testo. I saw the cps off by as much as 60% over the range they claim it measures at the calibration lab. Depressurization brings all contaminates in the house. Bad for IAQ.

In 1985 or 6, I was in possession of a blower door for about six months. It was fun to play with. Cleared pot smoke out of the garage with a quickness previously unknown. I'd like to hold it for a few weeks again.

I have a perfect laboratory in SC. A 46 year old poorly built family legacy. My father was hospitalized(hepatitis from Oysters) while the house I own was being built by "his crew". His crew had ZFTG, apparently. It's time to fix it all. Might as well be content for a great KZbin channel. BuildShow Network is invited.

Haha nice, Hamp. Sorry about your dad’s oysters though.
