I typed out a whole explainer and then my fat figures accidentally wiped it all… I really enjoyed your vid… 36:20 Anyway, Immrean (the man Jill kills) is not Jill’s father. He is a priest, and she calls him father (like Catholics) in mocking disdain as she strikes him down. The ATL (active time lore) makes clear that Jill is from the Northern Territory, and a ward of Rosaria from the two nations’ past conflict. Think Theon Greyjoy being with Starks. The iron blood (Immeran’s nation) is unrelated to the North, outside being another adversary nation to Rosaria. Again, great vid. Love this FF. Love Jill. Also wishing we had more of her. Thanks!

Understand the pain of losing a response. ✊✊ Thanks for watching! You know, I probably should have engaged more with the ATL stuff but it got frustrating doing it in the moment and then I'd forget I could just look it all up at my leisure after a cutscene. 😅😅

37:18 No. It is stated during the game that NOT ALL Eikons Powers are Hereditary. Phoenix and Bahamut certainly are, but Ramuh and Garuda are not. That is also fleshed out by the humbler origin of Benedicta, she had nothing until Garuda awakened(because this game doesn't get as much praise for it's use of Show don't tell) and she certainly was not of noble birth.

Ah, good point! I think I was hung up on how the hereditary nature of it was really focused on in the Rosarian parts of the narrative.

As a FF fan since IV I was very excited fo this game, because It was the first since XI that didn't go throught develpment hell or massive shift mid production (like Yasumi Matsuno's departure mid XII). Yes, It was gonna be a very diferent game, but wich one hasn't been in the last 20 years? I've waited a whole year for the PC release and coincidentealy had a 10 day paid sick leave after making a surgety (Sorry not Sorry for living a country with decent working rights) and sat down with my wife to play the game. I, as mentioned, a long time FF fan, and she: a Big A Song of Ice and Fire lunatic with crazy wall and all. I've been trying to return to the series that I had Strayed since XIII and we both have been Game of Thrones and ASOIAF orphans since nothing has scratch the same itch ever since. Not a single one of the many clones that Streamings have put out (Alas, I strongly recomend the Thrones Clones video essay from Just Write channel) or any Dark Fantasy book we tried to read. And I can say safely that to me Final Fantasy XVI made me fell 14 years old again booting a new Final Fantasy for the first time and embarking on a compeling journey, and my wife felt like watching Game of Thrones for the first time again. She made buckets and buckets of popcorn to watch me play and we cried togheter many times. Sure the story draws a lot of inspirations from the TV series, but unlike the other "clones" we've seen out there, FF XVI knows where it should set itself apart from the inspirations and thats where the "FF stuff" comes in and meshes up briliantly. At some point I made a coment like: "Final Fantasy has already been GoTesque before: It's Called Tactics." and think of my surprise when I learned that the Writer Kazutoyo Maehiro was a great "pupil" of Yasumi Matsuno. So there's no surprise that the Shaekesperian vibes are in equal with Tactics. It was a cathartic experience for us. My wife enjoys watching me play games with compeling stories, but gets completely bored when they're turn based Like BG3. FFXVI was the perferc oportunity to show her "my world" and we could talk togheter for days anilyzing the characters, the story, the themes in our work breaks at home. And I totally agree with you; Final Fantasy has consolidaded itself as a game that you boot expecting a great story. XVI's story is too good to be delegated to a spin off.

Great game. Looks and plays amazing. Agreed that Jill’s story arch falls to the wayside. The pacing up to Kupka’s defeat is spot on, but fails in the latter half. Plus the scorching of the sky crushed the beauty of the environments for the 20+ hour spent cleaning up side quests. A no scorched sky pc mod would be nice.

Was waiting a year for this game to come out on PC. Was super hyped for it, but now I don't have the cash for it >

It's pretty stellar! And it'll push a graphics card HARD.

I like your style Cole. Good video. As an over 30 yr long FF fan, the reason I feel 16 is disregarded by some fans (like myself), is the single character focus of it. Without a team to build and journey with, you can have summons and chocobos throughout, but to me and many ofthers, its no longer a Final Fantasy. I hear great things about it, but I need to be able to Divorce my yrs long expectations of what FF should be and accept the game on its own terms. Even though I own both PS5 and PC, I have yet to be able to do that very thing, that will allow me to try it.

Thanks! I hope that you can give it a try someday. I think it's absolutely worth playing, especially if you're a fan of the series.

FF has had an identity crisis since 13. Loved 7,8,9,10 and 12 was a good riff off the formula. 13 was a bad FF. 15 and 16 just aren't ff to me.

Personally I'm one of the weirdos that likes FF13 (though I've not played 13-2 or Lightning Returns). I really appreciate how the series keeps reinventing itself in ways big and small. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. But it's always interesting!
