You should’ve seen that area before the fire. It was just beautiful. Thanks for sharing Jeremy. Appreciate it.

I bet. The west and north sides are still pretty nice.

@@MidwestBackpacker ever since the fire. I’ve been shy and away from the powwow trail. Maybe it’s time to do a revisit. Thanks for the info.

Thanks for another great video of a great BWCAW trail. Favorite quote: "So, sunburn, black eye, ticks, scratches, bruises...it was pretty awesome."

Great video Jeremy! So glad you got all the way around to see the amazing scenery. Thanks for the preview of the trail. Looks like my BWAC crew has alot of work to keep us busy this upcoming weekend. We'll be up around South Wilder getting that opened back up for summer hikers.

Brutal looking. Think I'd end up lost on this one. I have only done the in and out Caribou Rock Trail, which was tough, and Eagle Mountain in the BWCAW, though the Angleworm and Snowbank trails look doable. I haven't watched your videos yet of those two but have seen Shugs. Which of those two would be harder to get lost on? The first timer on Pow Wow, wow! Talk about being thrown in the deep end. Have you read 'Lost in the Wild' by Cary Griffith? It's a great read about two separate wilderness adventures gone wrong. One of the stories was of Jason Rasmussen who went to hike the Pow Wow trail in late October of 2001. Anyway, he went counter-clockwise and ended up on a old logging trail, missing the left turn on day 1, and it went downhill from there.

Angleworm is the easier to navigate. Very worn in foot path. I have a video on that one one Tuesday. I have read that book. Very good! It was pre fire and pre gps navigation, but still real good. I read the same author and the fire on the Gunflint. Not as good.

Definitely need to soak gear and clothing in promethazine 10% solution, then air dry in the shade, then iron. One treatment will last all season long even through washing. No more bugs/ticks

I use permethrin. However, with temperatures that hot, I wore shorts. I picked them off and was fine.

I don’t remember if you mentioned it at the beginning, but I kept thinking “Man, the trees are so small! What happened? Did a fire rip thru that place?” Which you later confirmed had happened. Good job on this video, tho. Was quite perilous.

Hi Jeremy. Enjoyed this video and a look at the Boundary Waters area. In spite of the blowdowns (or almost down), did you have any issues following the route? Do they use any kind of "marking" of the trail route? Appreciate this interesting view of a different kind of trail. As usual, well done on the filming and production. God Bless!
@MidwestBackpacker Жыл бұрын
Thanks Ken. Signage is not allowed in wilderness areas. Cairns and tape on branch’s are the only navigation markings.

No reason to tolerate those ticks. If you treat your clothing with permethrin you'll likely have none. Of course you'd need to wear long pants or tights, and a sleeved shirt to do that.

Is the trail well marked?
@MidwestBackpacker Жыл бұрын
In the BWCA signs and blazes are not allowed. Rock cairns, blue tape, and the worn foot path were decent for 90% of the trail. There were a few times I couldn’t figure out where the trail was and relied on Gaia gps app.
