Transitioning from talking about imaginary pirates to talking about real life video and content strategy in youtube was really unexpected... but i must watch every video in this channel cause its annoyingly interesting. Would be interesting to interview several other channels and see if they actually put as much thought as Liam into their strategy and what different perspectives that have that he might be missing?
@rottenpotato47332 жыл бұрын
Considering the One Piece bubble, other channels combined don't put as much calculated thought as Liam, most treat the algorythm as some sort of ghost you have to deal with. Even good channels, big ones, they often do it by gut, things are done out of naivety. Primary exemples Tekking and BDA Law were explored here already. They have their audiences, niches, quite some view, but it's so clear the difference in optimization, in marketing etc. Liam clearly studies that stuff, analyzes it, everyone else has gut instinct. Of course, I'm restricting myself to OP creators, but a quick look in any channel and it's clear they're all a mess. Liam makes great content, but the only reason he's ahead of everyone else and, frankly, trumping them all with ease, is because he understands the formats, the structure. The science behind. As the Vegapunk of youtubers, he's 500 years ahead of everyone else. So here's a toast (hohoho) to Liam!

The new mystery tradition that is the church of the algorithm is not for just any fool or fop off the street. Nay, this is an all together more illustrious & august society born to a rarified nature, possessed of keen & steely minds and of course, peerless might! They are drawn by the siren song of the great enigma, risking soul & sanity at the barest misstep, drawn to conquer the beast and plunder it's secrets for the good of humanity. I have long since accepted KZbinrs' calls to action (Like, Comment, Subscribe, Share) as just a normal part of being on KZbin. I get why they do it, and it really is surprising just how many people ACTUALLY do something once prompted to. I knew someone who decided to plug their Patreon *as a joke* making fun of all the calls to action on KZbin, only to be shocked at just how many people actually DID contribute to their Patreon after the fact; they were under the impression that it didn't matter whether or not you were told to do something, since they figured anyone who actually liked them would know to like, subscribe, etc. of their own volition... I guess that's what happens when we treat people as, you know, people who can think for themselves. :P Edit: Just saw MoistCr1tikal's latest video because of this, got another subscriber!

My biggest thing about the call to action, is that majority of youtubers ask it beginning of the video. Ask me AFTER I watched your video, and then I might be more likely to do so, if I enjoyed the content! Keep up the great work Liam! Edit: I am always hesitant to sub to a channel as I only watch videos during my time, regardless of when posted. I feel like I am a youtubers worst nightmare if I get the notifications. I'm happy that you mentioned the potential for subs to harm a channel. Unnaturak growth can really kill a channel before it even started. There have been some gaming channels that have gained massive growth by being on the positively regarded end of some sort of scandal. Those channels then gained tens if not hundrets of thousands of subs in a few weeks if not days. but none of those subs stick around to actually consume the content, lowering the overall channel activity massively and therewith killing the channel in the long run by pushing it down in the algorhythm.

When subscribing to a channel like GrandLine Review it serves to purposes for me: 1) I use my subscriptions as kind of bookmarks so I can come back to a channel after some time and watch some (or all) of the content I have been missing out on (Seems I'm a huge binge watcher) 2) I don't pay for the content (and, yes, I know there's also ads and so on) so at least I can subscribe and hit the like button (no big fan of the bell^^). I think the issue with the subscription system in general is that it’s kind of dated, people don’t create or consume content like they did when it was made. It’s useful to subscribe to someone who makes a video a month or per week but subscribing to several people who make videos daily or even more frequently is just going to flood your feed making the whole thing redundant. Like you said KZbin already knows what you like and even if you’re not subscribed it feeds it to you, so there’s no real reason to subscribe aside from an attempt to show the creator you care about their content.
@marocat47492 жыл бұрын

I am personally tired of hearing people asking us to "like, share, subscribe, hit the bell, leave a comment telling me what you think", do a back flip, stop drop and roll, wave your hands in the air like you just don't care... It's a mini guilt trip every time I watch something. There are way too many things we're supposed to do to show our support. Most videos aren't even long enough or good enough to warrant half that engagement. Then when we do subscribe, we get to hear it some more, like a broken record. I'm not one to forget to subscribe if I like a video enough and see the potential in their other videos. So, I don't want to hear it EVERY time regardless of how one makes the suggestion.

My key idea is this: if the amount of time it takes for the KZbinr to tell people to subscribe is too long, then that’s driving away fans. I’ve seen videos where people take like a full minute telling people to subscribe while providing no entertainment value at all. That just drives people away, we watch videos for the content not watching ads for the channel we’re watching on top of in video sponsorship bits and 2 30 second inskippable videos at the beginning and again at the middle of the video. It’s just too much. That’s why I like the way you do it, it’s still entertaining content while still hitting what needs to be hit. I think more people should do that

He actually quit YT, bc he was getting 2k views on a channel with over a millions subs. He made videos about almost 0 of his subs were getting notified. Basically his videos he was pushed to bottom of the algorithm when the change happen and it just kept snowballing, tried making provocative content for obvious CTR reasons, but then YT shadow banned him more since they are trying to Deitre that kind of content. Its kinda like you said on your tekking review if you dont change with the algethum it'll eat your channel up. i always remember that story because i couldn't imagine quiting with a million subs.

I've liked this channel, and I'm subscribed on both at this point. It was the way you asked on GLR that got my to subscribe (and I subscribe to virtually nothing). That said, one thing to consider about the way you ask for subs actually contrasts with one of your earlier videos where you talk about not having intros and getting right into the content. I would argue that on GLR the way you ask for subs is your intro. All of your content comes after that, and it's just as long as any other intro.

Wow, a KZbinr's gotta eat those people in the comments were being way too extra. GLR tends to "beg for subscribers" at the same time of the video so if they don't like it they can just fast forward real quick and skip it. That said. It's fun to subscribe when the YTber asks for it because it feels like you're joining for a common cause and a purpose. However, once you are subscribed it can feel like the YTber doesn't care about you anymore. It's like watching someone you dated once and then that person never called back. Like if you wanted to be a called out as a subscriber of the day but already were subscribed, what can you do to be noticed by senpai?

I consider asking & begging to be somewhat separate. Cuz begging is just a more cringey way of asking someone to do something. But regardless of whatever one someone asks who the hell cares. a person could just ignore it & then move on it's not like someone has to do that

I prefer being reminded to subscribe at the latter part of the video. As you have mentioned on your previous video, new viewers want the content asap. Hearing a "please subscribe" in the first minute without even knowing the content and delivery style is what puts me off. Give me a good part of the content and then remind me of the subscription mid-way or at the end of the video if I like that type of content is definitely a better approach. From the 100+ KZbinrs which I follow, sadly, there are only 2-3 who do that.

Edit: This might be long to read but if u see this dude in a room, plz do so. I dont mind people begging for subscribers. When you do those quiz thingies on glr "if you guess incorrectly, your punishment shall be to subscribe to the grand line review which will result in constant one piece culture and content administered directly into your youtube feed", i really find the quiz fun as i hilariously lose everytime but im already subbed. Also the wording you use makes even very long 10 minute videos fun to watch. I like you and asking for a sub and a like isnt wrong in my opinion because i genuinely keep forgetting to like. Subscribing is another thing that i only do for certain people i like a lot which i dont forget but i always forget the likes so i very much appreciate the reminder which helps me to support creators such as you.
