I discovered the duduk through its use in the Avatar the Last Airbender score rather than through any personal or cultural connection, and I just have to say your tutorials are both beautifully produced and clear for someone without any of that context. Easily earned a like and a comment. Thank you.

I live in Bulgaria, not too far from Turkey. I can't remember exactly how I came to hear Duduk music firstly but I found a great fondness in hearing it. I like often to listen to Duduk music but now I feel it's the right time to learn to play it myself. The time and place is right and the spirit is right. I used to play guitar, badly, but the thought of creating music on the Duduk of my own thoughts feels nice.

The Duduk instrument was calling me for a while when finally months ago I took the decision to undertake the marvellous and enlightening journey of studying this wonderful instrument. I looked online and I found Canberk's videos. His way of speaking, and teaching, the way he conveys the knowledge embedded with a deep sense of respect and spirituality for music and for the Duduk itself inspired me deeply. He truly transmits everything beautiful and profound about the Duduk and its ancient traditions. I've asked him for advice through email, about which instrument should I have bought and other advice, and he has always been supportive, guiding me unconditionally even before starting my study. This is the kind of attitude that is the distinction of every great master and great human being. Now that I have my first Duduk, thanks even to him, I'm deeply grateful for his support and the profound love for Art and Music that he's capable to convey. I truly recommend him to everyone who wants to study Duduk. 🙏

Hey there, greetings from the deep south here in the states. I just got my Duduk, and soooo glad you are here to help me out with it. I do play the Irish tin whistle, but found this to be so haunting in sound and my love of your music has brought me here! I am of gypsy blood line and maybe thats why I am so drawn to it and have been for many years. I play 12 instruments and write instrumental music by ear as well as record various instruments for artists here and in other parts of the world. I can't wait to go through all your videos. Once again thank you so much.

Great lesson! You're the first person I ever heard mention that the reed has a slope! And I think this just helped me solve my tuning problems. I got my Duduk about 6 months ago I think, and I was never able to get it to sound in tune constantly. I tried for about 40 minutes a day many days with no results. I asked the maker, I asked on forums, but they all said to add more thread or adjust the lip pressure, nobody mentionned the reed slope and the direction of the regulator, so thank you!

Thanks for your lesson. I'd like comment about your direction to moisten the reed. I am a beginner player. I have two Nurwind duduks (Bb and C) with Nurwind M+ reeds (slightly harder than medium). I had asked Mher Mnatsakanyan to provide me with the reeds he thought sounded best with his instruments. I discovered that these reeds play best dry. Moistening these reeds immediately hampers tone quality. And, the moisture eventually causes the reed opening to expand causing the tone to suffer further. Breath expenditure becomes innefficient, and the pitch regulator can't close the opening enough to regain a rich resonant tone and efficient breath use. Only after the reed dries (with the cap on) does the reed regain its original glory 🙂
10 ай бұрын
Hi! Thank you for your comment. To avoid any incorrect information, I would like to say that I disagree with you. How reed work is not that simple. The type of the reed, the shape of the regulator, climate and humidity, how often you play the reed, and how young the reed is are all important factors and the reeds are never stable so you have to wet them consistently. If the reed opens too much and the regulator is not enough to keep it optimally open, try a tighter regulator. All the best.

*Canberk Ulaş Duduk Lesson Series: Introduction* *Why Learn From This Series?* * 0:07: Canberk Ulaş is a professional duduk player and educator. * 0:27: He learned to play by himself, which led to inefficiencies and bad habits. * 0:53: The series is designed to help you avoid the same mistakes. * 1:11: Canberk also offers online lessons for more personalized guidance. *Using the Video Series Effectively* * 1:22: While the videos are helpful, they may not be enough for everyone. * 1:27: Consider supplementing the videos with lessons from a qualified teacher. *Lesson 1: Preparing the Duduk* *Duduk Components* * 1:51: The duduk consists of two main parts: the reed and the body. * 1:58: Duduks come in different sizes/keys, each requiring a specific reed. *Preparing the Reed* * 2:30: Remove the cap and wet the reed for about a minute (longer if not used recently). * 2:56: You may need to remove the pitch regulator for better wetting. * 3:10: Hold the reed from the bottom, as the top is fragile. * 3:24: Note the slight slope on the reed's surface; it should face downwards when placed on the body. * 3:53: Attach the reed to the body by pressing and twisting gently. *Using the Pitch Regulator* * 4:12: Hold the regulator by the edge and ensure proper placement. * 4:39: The pitch regulator controls the reed's opening and airflow, impacting sound and intonation. * 4:52: Moving it down narrows the opening, making blowing easier and raising the pitch. * 5:02: Moving it up widens the opening, requiring more air and lowering the pitch. * 5:20: Find the optimal reed opening for the best sound, avoiding extremes. *After Playing* * 5:41: Close the cap securely without excessive pressure. * 5:57: This protects the reed's shape and prevents warping. * 6:13: Remove the reed by twisting gently. * 6:23: Store the reed and body in a way that allows air circulation to prevent decay. i used gemini 1.5 pro to summarize the transcript Token count 1,874 / 1,048,576
