I had enough hay to take me through the winter. Unfortunately, we are going through a drought, and I have started feeding hay in August. I had to buy extra hay so that we do not run short. Also, the earlier you access your hay situation, the better pricing you can negotiate. Do not wait until winter to look for hay, because you will pay a premium.

We decided to get in on the "bumper crop" bales this year. Last year, it wasn't just livestock owners but people who had outdoor dogs that were taking up all the hay because of the ice storm we had. Early is always better if you can keep it from getting moldy.
