You know it's a Jay Wolpert pilot just by how hard they go with the medieval fanfare music and theme. Hilarious. The games were hit or miss. Inflation was really tedious. And that bonus round needed a major rethink. Not only one question to decide the whole thing, but the win generates such a delayed reaction, I couldn't even tell which answer was the right one. Peter was good here, but still in his learning "I have to shout everything" first phase. As we would learn, he figured it out.

Who says Jay Wolpert didn't think outside the box? While it did not sell, Peter was still the right man for this kind of show.

This was a potential replacement for "Card Sharks" but lost out to "Battlestars" on NBC's Daytime Schedule. Also, that's veteran "Jeopardy!" announcer Johnny Gilbert announcing.
@johnanthony90475 күн бұрын
The over-exaggerated everything (the set, the music, the excitement) made this an incredible watch - wish it had gone beyond the pilot stage so there’d be more episodes to see. The funniest part was the reveal of the Golden Quest bonus game. That was total confusion as the camera needed to be pulled back to see the signage come down. Even so, even Peter seemed underwhelmed by it - especially after the giant music cue. Thanks for another awesome & rare find, Wink! This is easily one of my favorite KZbin channels.
@digiblader16 күн бұрын
No surprise why this didn't sell - too complex, too slow-paced, and the bonus game was far too easy.

I guess around this time Jay was of the mindset: "If it's gonna be corny....MAKE IT CORNY!" But is it just me or does that seem to be Peter Tomarken's speciality? A show that's really corny on the surface? Press Your Luck, Hit Man, Bargain Hunters, the Monopoly pilot?

Way too long per game. Imagine trying to fit five games and a bonus round in one show! It would have to straddle. Wolpert loved Whew!, didn’t he? How many more pilots did he use the blooper format?

Interesting but obvious why it did not make it. Inflation alone took way too long and it would be a miracle for a contestant to guess the difference exactly. The final challenge was...odd and he nailed the right clue to win. Perhaps a little more refining could have made a difference and less choice in games. They did spend some money on that set.

Inflation needed a set target IMO, it'd add suspense and give the game a proper finish.
