Kempton Gunmakers Fair 2023

The last weekend in July is the traditional date for the Kempton, Pennsylvania Gunmakers Fair. This is a flintlock gun show, but it is a lot more than that. It is a learning experience.
And it is a whole lot of fun.

In the video, I said that the Rifle for the Wilderness Road State Park/Martin’s Station Raffle this Fall was made by Mike Miller, and all the accoutrements were made by Simeon England. That is incorrect. I'm sure I've said it before on another post but I'll say it again. My God, those rifles and fouling pieces are so beautiful they break your heart to look at them! And the craftsmanship! I'd swear I was looking at articles (and not just the guns) that some time-traveler brought back from the 18th Century, just amazing labors of love. Thanks for bringing us along Mike!

Good stuff! I hope to make it there someday. The last show I was at was when I was about 18, in the late 80's. The memory of that show is what sparked my RE-interest in muzzleloading, and I recently finished my first non-kit; Fusil de Chase. Love it, thanks for sharing!

I set up at the Dixon’s gun makers fair for many years beginning in I guess 1992 I made and sold mostly knives and axes. Was a good show , I always sold out I collect antique powder horns and would bring some to show. Was always an enjoyable show that I looked forward to. Even though I had stopped going it was sad when it was ended Looks like it is even bigger and better now! Nice to see Brad and his son Shane there. I was looking for my friend Sparks who sold the powder measures and string. 😃

Hi Mike , I just subscribed to your channel about a week ago and enjoy it throughly. I got into black powder in the late seventies and continued into the early eighties but life and other more expensive hobbies got in the way but you have reignited my interest and I just ordered a new Uberti 1860 Army today and I can’t wait to get it . I still own my original Thompson center Renegade in .50 caliber that has had many successful hunts for white tales in the N.H. woods . I will be preparing my new pistol per your videos and will let you know how I do . I’m a retired machinist so I’m skilled with metals so don’t worry about me ruining the pistol. I think you'll need a visa to cross the Mason-Dixon Line, LOL. I'm near Mayberry and originally from PA, so this is not a bad ride since it is just west of Allentown off of I78. A must stop is Dietrich's Meats Lenhartsville, which is an old fashioned German deli.

Awesome gathering! For a kid who grew up watching Fess Parker on TV, I was fascinated with colonial era arms and accessories. I acquired a steer horn at a garage sale to accompany my Paris Kentucky Rifle, but growing up in the 70s in a blue collar Midwest town, there weren’t many resources I could find on how to finish it. It looked pretty had by the time I got done. Used a Tinker Toy wheel to plug the big end.

Very nice review of the show. Keep em coming Mike, and it sucks about the Jaeger rifle. But as you said gotta save the shackles for the lawyers. Man I really hope and pray you can win this case and put the town admins in their place. I love the den and evil Roy needs a place to run roughshod over.

Anyone more tech savvy than me interested in setting up a fund for Mike specificly to get the Jager he fell head over heels for?? I think it would be appropriate as a thank you gift from the audience to him for all the things he has done and is currently doing for us and on behalf of us. I'm not sure what the price is, but I'm sure if 25% of the people who love him gave $0.50 or $1 each it would be WAY more than enough. I know Mike will humbly refuse, but I'm hoping to hear from some of the members of the community about making this happen?? All thoughts and opinions welcomed.

It was a great show this year. It was a disappointment when the Dixon family had to give this up, but the new show is even bigger and better!
