That gun is a great piece of ww2 history, especially if you would know exactly where it was found. Greetings, WWIIMD.

This is an absolutely stunning find! My congratulations to you both! Me and my friend (Björn) used to joke about finding a Sturmgewehr44 during our trips to the area around Losheimergraben and Wahlersheid. Our finds are not as spectacular as yours. Keep up the good work guys! :-)

This would probably classify as the find of a lifetime. I know that even today there's lots to still be found in the forests and fields of Europe from World War II and even the Great War. That needs to be cleaned up and sent to a museum or something. Also, a lot of times battlefield finds will sometimes have bullets still in the chamber. Awesome video.

Simply beautiful, I would love to get the chance to one day go to where the battles took place and look for these relics of the past. Just being able to hold those things in my hands, it'd be such a connection to the past, to the men who fought and died on that battlefield with that very firearm in tow.

Pure awesomeness. A real STg, the most important rifle in modern history, dug up and not held since it was dropped in combat. I bet if they dug around the tree they would find the soldat who fell with it. Likely an SS trooper. Brilliant bit of history.

At my fathers workplace (a powerstation in sweden) they found a Svt40 lastyear in a shipment of Peat that had arived from belarus. It was Buried in the ground (peat) that was then dug up and sent to sweden to be used as fuel where it then got caught in the metal separator. Most of the wood had decayed so it was only the metal parts left. They put it up on a wodden Plaque in the office where it now remains.

The 5.56 causes minor shrapnel fragments causing only minor complications compared to a 7.62 round.The 7.62 round destroys bone and organs making the human structure itself a giant piece of shrapnel causing many internal bleeding opportunities,which is a major killer in modern battle fields. My primary weapon(IW Steyr) fires the 5.56 and its just to light a round to produce enough Kinetic energy to cause major damage. Cpl,RNZIR 2/1 Infantry.

Keiros1702 is correct. I happen to be a Class II manufacturer of machineguns and an ardent WWII historian. It is a Sturmgewehr 44. Also, the Ardennes was in Belgium bordering France.

Dutch guys, what model detector where you using? I have a Teknetics Delta 400 and for a 300 and something dollar detector it works quit well. The pin point mode is very accurate for things LESS than a meter. Do you think I should shell out another 100 plus dollars on an 11 inch coil?. I need a wand too of course. Thought I could get by with out one, the summer here has been the driest ever. The ground here is hard cluped dry dirt and I've pulled my find out of the hole without knowing!

@MrLeo613 the STG44 is the first videly used Assault rifle and has a very distinctive look it's easy to tell if you are into guns that it's an stg44, No other weapon in the war looked like that. The wooden part is missing however.

Of course we did'nt. This "piece of rust" is now part of a serious private collection.

The weapon is unloaded so it is probably dumped. You see this often with weapons found. K98k's regulary have the bolts removed so they could not be used if (re)captured.

@fyrewolffe you can buy them with a special permit. you have to have a reason like "i want to collect firearms from WW2, or I want to collect modern firearms, because...". you can get anything with a special permit, even laser sights and silencers which are both prohibited weapon parts. however you have to keep the bolt assembly seperated from the weapon when the guns are stored at home. also you have to have the proper equipment to store these parts (a safe).
@mmkropp14 жыл бұрын

@pocketsurfer001 We are not talking about some sort of crappy prototype here but the first real assaultrifle that was build and used in bigger numbers. Not to forget that the StGw1944 was the first weapon that was called "sturm gewehr/assault rifle"

@fyrewolffe well you can shoot with regular semi guns. and i think there are some special events where you can shoot full autos, like at conventions. i think the mp5 was the .22lr version and was in the semi-auto category.

It is, 5.56 and 5.45 are smaller, therefore much faster. 7.62x39 is a very slow cartridge. Only about 2300 or 2200 feet per second.

The history of US and German firearm development indicates that most new models come into use NOT when it's developed but when the old weapon is proved in battle to be outdated. Same reason the new range of u-boats didn't go to action until 3 days before WW2 ended despite they were almost ready for prototype testing at beginning of the war.

What rounds is your unit using and what is the barrel length on your aug? 20 inches or 16 inches? 55gr out of a 20 inch barrel should give you no problems with stopping power. Im guessing you are using what we use which is a 62 grain bullet with a steel tip penetrator. The 55gr will exit a 20 inch barrel at over 3000 feet per second, turns someones insides into hamburger and makes an exit wound the size of a foot ball. Again, your problem is with the m855. And 7.62x39 isnt what its hyped to be
