I think it's actually more useful to bring up cases where someone did have a miscarriage but it didn't pass out of the body and became a risk to the mother. The mother could not get the procedure she did because even though the fetus was dead, it could still be considered an abortion so medical professionals waited until the mother could not be saved. That is far more important and something that could change her mind. To say "hey, someone could be in your position, have something go wrong after the miscarriage and need this DNC but be denied it out of fear of prosecution. You could have had a completely different outcome due to the very laws you have been advocating. If you don't like that, you may need to reconsider your stance and start listening to medical professionals who have been saying 'this situation happens and these laws tie our hands.'" I think rather than focusing on cases that differ too much, to create cognitive dissonance and that moment of reconsidering, you need to pick cases where it is nearly identical to hers and show how the medical staff put the legal ramifications first and how, if it had been her, she'd be dead right now.

I live in Texas. I had a miscarriage last fall and THE VERY FIRST THING I thought when i found out that the baby stopped growing was to wonder if I was going to have to go to another state to get the care that I needed (which was a D&C, because the thought of waiting it out at home and in pain was the most horrific thing I could imagine), and I started looking at which states were options.. I didn’t think about what I or my partner might be going through emotionally, or how it might affect my well-being in the coming weeks and months. I was ONLY concerned with how much worse it was going to get before it would get better and what I might be forced to go through based on our new laws - I was scared. And I was pissed. Fortunately, I have the means and support and privilege to be able to find an alternate solution, but many people do not. And MORE FORTUNATELY, Texas pleasantly surprised me and I was able to get my procedure without much pushback since the pregnancy had clearly ended, but it is not fair that I had to feel that fear above all other emotions during such a confusing time.

I think the percentage of miscarriages is even higher. An old Merck Manual for physicians in the 1950s indicated at least 50% of conceptions ended in miscarriage. I've seen higher estimates in more recent times. It's a very rocky road to birth for a zygote, most don't make it. Many of the miscarriages may not be recognized because they happen so early, in the attachment phase. And a six week old embryo does not have a heart beat because it doesn't have a heart, only primitive cardiac cells. We look pretty much like any other mammal at that stage and for some time after. @@applecrispies1794 I would assume they (incorrectly) believe that certain birth controls cause “abortions” by preventing a fertilized egg from implanting. While hormonal birth control blocks ovulation from occurring, it is incorrectly thought that the main process is the implantation prevention. So condoms, copper iud, diaphragm, etc are fine but bc pills or hormonal iud isn’t.

You should do one on Alexander Ryan Blackwelder, of East Main Church of Christ in Tupelo Mississippi, just arrested for sex with a 16 year old church member. The media calls him a youth pastor, but the Church of Christ insists on specific language so I'm surprised they're not raising a ruckus that he's not called a "youth minister". Held without bond. His father, Mark Alan Blackwelder, is a dean at Freed-Hardeman University, a Church of Christ college in Henderson, Tennessee. The name of N. B. Hardeman has come off of several of their buildings in recent year because he was a hard core racial segregationist. These people are like the IFB without the Baptist part.

13:32 just for some friendly information a D&C is a common OB/GYN procedure. It is not only used for miscarriages or abortions however. It is also used to help diagnose different uterine issues. For example, why a woman may be bleeding heavily and/or excessively.

i grew up in the church founded by John MacArthur's father (Calvary Bible Church in Burbank, CA). When my ex best friend was SEVERELY injured in a car accident (we were both in the car w one other person) on the way to classes at his university, he said he'd help with her recovery (that man is a multimillionaire). He never helped her. He "prayed" for her and that was it. We were all left to pay for our medical bills (hers ended up being literally over a million dollars in medical bills)

I had an incomplete miscarriage aka spontaneous/natural partial abortion. It is hard to think you're eight-ten weeks pregnant and your baby is dead. It is one of the worst emotional pains a woman can go through. When Jessa said, "what do we do now? Where do we go from here?" I said, out loud, "You cry. You have a d&c. You act like you're okay. You go home. You cry.....a lot."

I had a D&C in October (I live in Texas btw my doctors were great and very understanding).. I found out at my 12 week appointment my baby had stopped growing at 10 weeks they had no heartbeat.. it was a very traumatic experience it was my first pregnancy (unplanned and unexpected- I have pcos and have been married 2 years). I didn’t know what to do at first the doctor gave me options of a d&c or I could naturally pass or take medicine to help it pass but those risk infection and not getting all of the pieces of the pregnancy out. I should have scheduled it right away but thought for a few days and the day I scheduled the procedure I started bleeding. The next day was the procedure and I started cramping so bad I went to the ER at 9am and started gushing blood out I was writhing in pain for hours morphine barely helped the pain.. I had the procedure around 1 pm once I woke up I felt 1000000xs better I finally had relief and closure. It’s such a hard choice to make and I still think about where I’d be if my baby was alive.. my due date was April 22nd 😢

She was able to make a healthcare decision between her and her doctor. There are millions of women right now who are being forced to prove their miscarriage was natural and not an attempted abortion. Women have been arrested for it. Her being so out of touch that she was allowed to do what others aren't has to be called out as tactfully as possible. In addition, she's still posting in such a way that she's right but everyone else is an evil woman. Lets say the fetus wasn't dead but was not viable at all or if it was a dire health situation. Would that be another it's ok for her and her doctor? This stuff happens everyday. This is why there's no room for judgement and she's a hypocrite.

4:27 point of clarification: it’s not an appeal trial. the only trial is the jury trial where he was convicted. trial means live evidence and argument, for findings of facts/law by either a jury or judge. an appeal is just an appeal. it’s a review of the legal rulings - there is no new evidence taken. it is decided by a panel of appellate judges who review the record that was developed at trial based upon the arguments of the attorneys in the briefs, occasionally with oral argument - though oral argument isn’t always necessary, and is more performative than anything.

Interesting that they're basing Josh's appeal on a technicality. I knew someone facing the exact same charges, with a family just as supportive of him. They tried to argue that the FBI's search of their house (where they found the cp) was unlawful because they didn't have a warrant, so the entire case should be thrown out. It didn't work because the FBI doesn't need a warrant if you _willingly invite them into your home._ He's about 10 years in to his 30-year prison sentence, and his family still maintains that he was framed. I can't imagine what defending a predator for so long must feel like.

There are religions that have no issue with abortion and don't see it as an independent life until _after_ the child is actually born - Judaism is ironically one of them. In Judaism, the child isn't considered alive until they take their first breath. Just saying. I know, the Pope of the Jews, Ben Shapiro would disagree with that, but Shapiro has spent the majority of his career catering to an evangelical audience and telling them what they want to hear.
