He knows that crime syndicates can't flourish without the involvement of corrupt law enforcement, politicians, & government officials. Always a network from highest to lowest. He knows that predators and human traffickers are going to surveille airports & bus stations, etc. for potential victims. He knows their habits, methods, thinking, channels & modes of operation. And he obviously knew that French Official & his family, & worked with him before. And he knew by his indifference & refusal to help him, that he was corrupt. So while the rest of the world sees adventure opportunities, & positive potential in the people & the world around them, he is very cognizant, of the workings of it's underbelly all around him, as opposed to just being "paranoid". And he knows how girls think, how immature & incredibly naive they are. Obviously he understands how men think, how predators think, & how men of other races, especially eastern cultures, target women in general, but especially value virgin girls. Amanda in this, was a "party girl", & probably not a virgin. She told the guy that they had the place to themselves, because she thought she wanted him. Wanted to party with him. Wanted to hook up with him. And she wanted to string Kim along, & introduce her to that, free & easy, party lifestyle. To drag her all the way to France, free of chaperones & parental influence, to pull her out of her shell. On the one hand, she was not so innocent & kind of knew what she was doing, being deceitful; but on the other hand, she was also still very naive herself, so she was much more of a walking contradiction than Kim was. And unfortunately she paid dearly for it. I think this movie is very good at opening people in general's eyes to societies underbelly, & educating them, but especially girls & young women.

Parent rage. Most of us obviously aren't capable like him to do that stuff, but the legit no hesitation/merciless/ruthlessness that was portrayed is spot on for any parent if you fuck with their kid. Also worthy of note: More people live in slavery/trafficking today than at any other period of human history... it's definitely a problem.

@@benjamindorough6129 u r absolutely right to have that kind of mindset, because there are some people in the world that are horrible and as a species in general human beings are capable of a lot of truly horrid crap. It happens wayyyy more often than people are willing to admit acknowledge. That's why people like this character being ultra paranoid shouldn't regarded as crazy or unreasonable because that way of thinking is pretty much the safest way to live. Preparation is absolutely critical to ensuring a person's safety no matter what situation you find youself in. The sad part about this sort of scenario is that the vast majority of people will get grabbed because their mindset is somewhat docile in nature which makes a hell of a lot easier for people like that to kidnap. Because only people like intelligence agents or even the average soldier can spot suspicious things like that. If folks like sex traffikers are around, then unless you have that sort of mindset from the very beginning, ur chances of avoiding capture are sadly incredibly low. society pushes the idea that having such skills are unnecessary, but everyday someone is kidnapped or forced into slavery that idea is made more and more foolish naive.

I remember when this movie came out, everyone criticised the casting of Liam Neeson (before seeing the actual film), saying he was too old to play the believable action hero. Since this film however, he’s pretty much been cast in nothing but action films, so now it’s Liam Neeson saying, “I’m getting older now. At some point it has to stop.” The two sequels Taken has are well worth seeing, though admittedly not quite as good as this one in my opinion. Can I request you add Lethal Weapon series to your movie polls too? I’m almost certain you’ll both love them.

I like the fact that Neeson's character and his daughter actually have a healthy father-daughter relationship *before* the movie starts. They aren't estranged, she' isn't overly rebellious, and she doesn't act like she hates him. They're a just a dad and his little girl. Even when she calls him when they get to the apartment, she genuinely feels bad that her friends relatives aren't there even though she thought they would be and she doesn't lie about it. They have a perfectly healthy relationship and get along just fine. The only time she even gets upset with him is when he's against her going on the trip and he gets upset that she didn't tell him they were following this band on tour. Not perfect, but normal.

I have weird nostalgia with Taken. This came out when I was starting college and half a dozen people (myself included) who had randomly shared classes but didn't know each other super well, formed a group of friends. All just out of being bored one night and as a group deciding to just go see what the cinema was playing down the road. After that every week we'd get back together, go out to eat, introduce our friends and partners to each other, etc, for years. All out of an action flick centered on Liam Neeson throat-punching people. 🤣

This movie probably opened the gateway for older action stars to still be desirable, such as John Wick and the Equalizer. You've seen John Wick, but definitely can recommend both Equalizer movies as well with Denzel Washington. If you want more Liam Neeson: - Schindler's List (very heavy topic, but movie based on a true story and very well acted/written/shot) - Batman Begins (not the main character in it, that's of course Bruce Wayne played by Christian Bale, but played it well) - Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace (not my favorite movie but Liam Neeson is probably the best part of that movie) - The Grey (Liam Neeson against wolves... I mean... do I have to say more?)

It doesn't matter if you're almost 18, if you only have the life experience and thinking of an average 14 year old. Mom left some really important things out, when she took it upon herself to raise her daughter with minimal contact to the father. I was a woman in my 20's when this movie came out. And even though I was all about being an independent woman, I still thought that letting these two travel alone, was a terrible idea. Yes, your daughter has to learn. But you know, baby steps.

Liam Neeson. A Irishman who was an ex-boxer, who went on to become helluva actor and also an Oscar nominee (Best Actor in Schindler's List, 1993). But 20 years plus into his career, this gem of a film made him the new thinking man's action hero. That phone call scene is unforgettable. The selling point of the movie and it's first trailer. Many more movies like this he's done and it's fun to watch Neeson take it to the bad guys. As for the Taken franchise, part 2 is great. Part 3 is decisive for not being a good finale. There was a tv series, a prequel set years before the first film (ran for 2 seasons).

Amanda's immature decision in the beginning is exactly why two teenage girls shouldn't be travelling alone, much less STAYING alone in an empty house in a foreign country. I agree! This is a fabulous movie for that exact reason. Its fun and cathartic to watch this no-mercy violence against sex-traffickers. Its kinda like Inglorious Basterds in that way. We like seeing inexcusable evil just get taken down.

Part of the reason I feel he does come across as a seasoned fighter is he was a boxer at one point in his life. I mean he's pretty agile for a man as big as he is. But he's also long limbed. Like I really do believe he comes across as somebody you don't want to get in an entanglement with because he's somebody you really wouldn't want to get into an entanglement with.

The Deadpool shirt is funnily enough kind of apt here, since the guy who does Liam Neeson's stunts in this and teaches him to fight, is Mark Vanselow. Vanselow was also stunt coordinator and stunt man on Deadpool.

Awesome reaction guys. If you want another Liam Neeson revenge movie check out Rob Roy which is also a historical period movie. The chemistry between Liam Neeson & Jessica Lange is off the charts & very relatable by the fact you can sense how their characters love each other but there are times when their priorities differ & they can't understand why their loved one doesn't share their viewpoint. The cherry on top of this movie is the swordfight scene at the end of the movie which the two protagonists are using heavy swords & you can feel their pain & exhaustion during the fight. Keep up the excellent reactions guys.

To have a job lke this you have to serve in any military branch, get elite level, maybe an specialty also, special forces and intelligence jobs, then retire from that and get recruited by NSA or CIA and serve long enough to make a career and survive. The guy that was consultant for Neeson's character was still in active service while filming the movie and when returned to train Neeson from a field asignment, had some scars and got asked by Liam. His answer was "I can't discuss it". Funny reaction guys!

Liam Neeson had lost his wife in skiing accident before this film. He accepted it partially as there was rage and anger in him during that time and he was looking way to release it. In this role it was way to release anger by beating coountless stunt men and getting paid, it seems to be awesome form of therapy truth to be told.

my first time watching Taken left me speechless. Ofcourse the action and brutality is well performed, but it's this bitter aftertaste, like you know this is happening all around the world, millions of people (kids!) are suffering in human trafficking matter, drugged, ready to die, etc. Taken right off the street. (In some mid-east countries you might be even abused and raped when you're a woman (tourist) and thrown into jail afterwards for unproper behaviour!!) Just thinking about someone you care for ending in such scenario gives you goosebumps. Everytime you watch a movie or a documentary about this matter, you realise how sick the world is... and all these Marvel kid movies where they trying to save the world from some pity aliens seem even more ridiculous. Great reaction as always, really enjoyed it! Similar theme might be 8mm with Nicolas Cage (I don't remember/know if you've watched it already, if no, go and watch it)

For the record Liam Nieson was around 56 years old at the time he made the movie in 2008, and he is still making action movies at 69 years old (he turned 70 in June); 2022's "Blacklight" being the latest.

Taken is the first movie I watched that showed a realistic depiction of someone with highly trained combat and spy skills. A lot of movies follow the James Bond model of having a lot of shots fired back and forth and extended fight scenes because that's fun to watch. But, in reality, someone who is trained at that high of a level would take you down in a matter of seconds. They wouldn't need 30 shots to hit their target. Liam Neeson's character is the real deal.

Thank you. I'm ambivalent about the first sequel. It screams "sequel" loudly, but it actually gives the wife and daughter something to do. The second sequel has a whole different plotline, and the twist is very depressing. Similar roles Neeson has done include "Unknown," "Non-Stop," "A Walk Among the Tombstones," and "Run All Night." Plus several others that I haven't seen and can't recommend good or bad. Also check out Mel Gibson's "Edge of Darkness."

That the thing about Brian Mills. On one hand, he's a lovely father and an all-round nice guy who's mostly likely go out his way to protect people like the singer despite the fact that she disrespect him. But on the other hand, he can be a ruthless killer who wouldn't hesitate to kill anybody who either gets in his way, sees as a threat or piss him off. In both all three movies and the Taken TV series, Brian Mill have proven that he's the type of guy you don't want to mess with
